I expanded that tunnel to the Bro Station.

Also, finished the tracks to the North Hub...mostly. There's some wooden tracks still there, but that will be fixed when I get more creosote. That's cooking right now.

^This type of reaction is part of the reason why I love the Technic Pack and Tekkit. There's so many mods with so many things that you'll eventually go, "the hell is a _____."

A coke oven is a large thing that you can use to smelt wood into charcoal and has creosote oil as a byproduct. That helps with Railcraft rails. It also does stuff with plain old coal. Coal is, once again, vital in Tekkit.

First community project: Rail system!

Soon, everything will be more connected! To help, please contribute your resources to the cause (leave stuff in the Bro House, or sell things to the store, although donating helps out a lot more because of how stuff is set up). Also, if you need to smelt anything, we have a coke oven near the Bro House. Use it for smelting your wood. It takes longer, but it gives us creosote oil, which is desperately needed.

More community projects to come!

So, about /home.

I am noticing that some people are using it a lot, especially when in a situation where they could be hurt even slightly during mining trips or when they are near spawners. It's not unusual for me to see a lot of uses of /home in the server logs, and I am thinking that it might be making things too easy by almost eliminating risk. My question is, how does everyone feel about it? Is /home too prone to abuse, and if so, should I disable it or charge game money for use of it?

Keep in mind that I originally disabled /home, but it was reenabled accidentally. I kept it enabled now because I didn't want to disrupt things.

I'm really sorry for my lack of attention on this server today. This has been a chaotic day, getting ready for my trip and all. JeffreyRaze is now a mod. The griefers have been banned. Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do about the Bro House right now. However, please let me know what exactly they did so I could at least give items to repair damage.

From this point forward, I can only administrate from my phone. There are only a limited number of things I can do, so please keep that in mind. Please AIM me if anything comes up, and I will try to be a bit better about responding. Thanks again for your understanding.

Kind of short notice, but I need moderators in the server. Moderators can do a lot of the stuff I can, except change the economy settings, change dates, and do server management stuff. Moderators can kick, ban, jail, unjail, and track people. They are the anti-griefing police. In cases of problems with the server, they (well, anyone really, but especially moderators) can contact me on AIM/Yahoo (Zachnorn)

Please post here if you are interested, and include your Minecraft name if it is different from your GameFAQs username. I'll need to know by tomorrow. Please only apply if you're willing to help out and won't abuse the powers. I give up for now. I really need to sleep since I am getting up in less than 4 hours.

Anything related to Essentials is not working except for ops. For those that know about servers, this looks like it might be some YAML errors with permissions, or a conflict with Essentials. Going to try to fix it later sometime, when my mind is working a bit better.

I have come to the conclusion that stuff is too overpriced for the amount of money you get at the start of the game.

Because of this, I have increased everyone's account by $90, and I am changing the amount new players start with to $100. Not a lot of money still, but reasonable enough to buy land, or at least buy food. I also find that the server's shop was configured for a much larger server, and therefore, I've scaled things down. Prices for things are the same, but I am scaling it down a bit.

Finally, it begins! With Tekkit 3, we'll essentially get out of the stone age of Minecraft and into a more industrial era. I may do things like set up special projects and such as well. There's also an economy and other stuff. This should be fun!

tl;dr version: Server is at 76.175.53.255. You must install Tekkit 3 to play (details below). The rules sum up to "don't be a jerk" but they're worth reading. There's some server plugins that are optional (including economy, shops, and property stuff) and discussed in a link.

How to install/use Tekkit

4. Enter your Minecraft login information, then login. Wait for it to download and open, then log into the server as usual

1. No griefing, no stealing, no trolling, no flaming. Let's keep it fun.
2. Not a rule, but I'd recommend using Residence to protect your property. /res handles most stuff with Residence.
3. Feel free to invite your non-Board 8 friends, as long as they won't break the rules!

Mod-specific rules:
1. BUILDCRAFT: Keep quarries away from places where they could be disruptive. Examples: near people's houses, spawn, mines, etc. Put a layer of something (dirt, sandstone, etc.) and a sign to make it less dangerous afterwards.
2. INDUSTRIALCRAFT: Keep nuclear reactors in safe areas. Use reinforced stone, and keep it monitored or shut off with redstone.
3. Don't steal power, electricity, Blutricity, etc.
4. In general, don't abuse mods to make them destructive or annoying.

You would need to buy Minecraft in order to use the server. If you're asking about the money/economy stuff I was talking about, then no.

No problem with those rules, although I'd ask that you make a post here too if you end up making a new topic for the actual server so that I don't have to search for it.

A few things:

1. I think Saturday is a good time to start the server. I'm thinking the afternoon, but we'll see.
2. I'm going to Arizona next week most likely. Although the server will be up and I can talk to you through Minecraft Mobile Admin, I can't fix some problems. If my router or modem has a problem, I can't do anything until I come back. I should be gone for a few days.
3. There will be an in-game economy. I'm going to try to make it useful and maybe even fun. The idea is that people will have more reason to explore, build, mine, trade, etc. Property can be purchased with money, and of course, there will be stores owned by the server and other players. The server store in particular will sell non-renewable resources added later (such as vanilla's emerald). It's all optional, though.

Finally, here are the rules I'm considering implementing for the finished server:

When a law is justly created and is not manifestly unjust itself, following the law is a moral imperative. There is no equivalent moral demand that one pay a lot for something given away for free.

That's debatable and you know it. You're in that debate right now!

I think what the majority thinks is pretty clear at this point. I don't see how this is much more different than other pay what you want things. I remember "free" gift wrapping things back when I had a Borders, run by people trying to raise donations for a school trip or something. Sure, I could just give them 1 cent or even nothing. They would lose money from giving me the wrapping paper, tape, the service (wrapping my stuff instead of someone else who would pay), etc. That's legal. I gave them a few dollars, though, so they have a profit for their fundraiser. It's worth the cost to me, and it's the right thing to do. It's not too much different for the Humble Bundle, is it?

IIRC, there is a minimum $.35 charge to process a transaction typically. So, simple math says that they would lose 34 cents from someone paying 1 cent.

Not illegal. Just not something I would call fair. At least paying $1 would cover their expenses, considering that they have to run a server and such as well.

Just FYI: I am taking the server down in the next 15-30 minutes. My modem has been giving me poor download speeds (upload speed is fine, and that's what's important for hosting a server), and I am going to replace it. The server will not be up until late tonight.

Oh no, I wasn't taking it that way. Just saying that there is something different about Minecraft multiplayer compared to other multiplayer games in that we don't schedule when we're going to play. CoolCly said it better than I did.

Minecraft multiplayer really is mostly just doing your own thing. Sometimes, you could go and explore, mine, build, whatever with a friend. Still, it is very much a "look what I built" kind of thing, but people do tend to build stuff close to each other, so you get cities and stuff over a long period of time. Not sure how much can happen over a session of a few hours. Just saying as someone whose had the experience of running a server for Board 8. That said, I don't know how Live works for something like Minecraft.

We're useless because most of us have the PC version of Minecraft. Also, we don't usually just meet to play at a certain time. We tend to just keep a server up and join it whenever. Servers are up for weeks or months at a time.

Tekkit 3 has been released (in a testing phase, apparently), but my server is not quite ready yet. I need to do a few things to ensure that we have a smooth transition into things. Including setting up additional server-side mods (for property ownership and economy), load testing, and so on.

NOTE: THIS SERVER IS TEMPORARY AND WILL BE RESET! You will most likely lose everything you did.
Equivalent Exchange is part of Tekkit, but I disabled it. You don't need to do anything. If you're wondering, it has been found to be overpowered in SMP, and there are some dupe bugs right now. It may be enabled in the future.

How to get Tekkit 3:

Thanks, Wang. Yeah, it's not the best phone, but it seems like it is the best that I could get. What it ultimately comes down to is whether or not it is worth getting the upgrade, or if I should stick with my Optimus V until it dies. Several Best Buys sold out of the Optimus Elite, and mine almost sold out. I got one of the last in stock. I can return it without issue, I just need to decide today about whether or not I activate it.

It's too bad I can't get the upcoming Evo V 4G without losing my $25 plan and paying $300 for the phone alone, though. :(

My phone is actually not bad. It's an LG Optimus V, and it is about 11 months old. I really like it, but there are a few issues with it:
1. It has 150 or so MB of internal space for apps, so I am constantly installing and uninstalling apps
2. The camera has no flash
3. The CPU is old and does not support Adobe Flash

Everything else is fine.

Virgin Mobile released the LG Optimus Elite, which has about 1 GB of space, a camera with flash, Adobe Flash, better CPU, etc. It's $130. If I buy it by tomorrow, I do not need to get out of my $25 plan into a $35 plan. If I wait any longer than that, I'm stuck with my phone or upgrading to a Motorola Triumph (which apparently is poorly made).

Do you think it is worth it to upgrade?

It has come to my attention that RedPower will have computers. Of course, we already have ComputerCraft.

Basically, what I am saying is that I need to hurry up and learn LUA (or whatever language these computers use) to program some cool stuff when we get things going. I'm going to have fun with that.
