I'm enjoying misfit at demon academy a lot more than I'm inclined to admit. Somehow the fact that they don't even bother to make the fights close is more respectable. The show isn't good by any sort of critical metric but it still entertains me.

Also calling it that the girl they ran into right when they got to the human academy is Kanon re-incarnated and maybe possessed or something.

The show stays pretty consistent so if you like episode 1, you should enjoy the rest. The only downside to that show IMO is that it makes me want to drink and I can't anymore.

I have continued to stay up to date with unOrdindary which is great and mage and demon queen which is S+ tier.

Maybe I should watch more uzaki chan. The first episode didn't really sell me but it wasn't unwatchable either.

For me I just can't win. A game is for sure so much less fun to play with a guide, but missing anything also really really makes me feel bad so I just can't win for games with missables. I've grown to despise missables.

Getting near the end of P5R and I'm thinking I might just barely not have enough time to max all confidants and that has completely removed my motivation to play. I knew I'd hate the limited time aspect of the game and god damn do I hate it. Just let me do everything in one playthrough without needing a guide you bastards. Would it have killed them to just give me 2-3 more months of free time so theres no stress over it?

On the anime side of things I really want to watch a good mature anime that is clever and has a compelling plot but there aren't any that I haven't already seen. I think I know of literally every anime from the past 25 years. Whenever I look up recommendation it's all just stuff I already know about or shit shows that have like a 5/10 rating which I'm slowly also becoming familiar with.

Maybe I'll just catch up with the current seasonal garbage. I haven't quite committed to dropping god of highschool but I'm really close. I guess I could catch up on that shamelss power fantasy demon king one. Ugh, none of it sounds even remotely appealing right now. Still gotta kill 4 days until the new rpg maker comes out.

Oh yeah, I haven't mentioned my health in a while. Next month on the 17th I'm somehow gonna get to colorado and get a PICL procedure where they inject stem cells into the ligaments and muscles and joints of my cervical spine. From getting a digital motion x-ray I've found out I have massive instability in my neck that is crushing my spinal chord and brainstem. Hopefully that accounts for all my symptoms. Theres also a good chance it's caused my brain to start leaking CSF out of my left ear and nose, otherwise I'm not sure what that fluid is.

Because I have problems with anything being put into my bloodstream (either through eating or IV) I'm worried the anesthesia will kill me and also I won't be able to take pain medicine for the recovery so that sucks cause I'll likely be in a lot of pain. If it doesn't kill me though, the procedure has about a 95% success rate (and has never had any major complications) so I might FINALLY get my fucking life back after like 16 months of this hell. I wouldn't wish this shit on hitler. No one should have to go through this. If it turns out my symptoms are caused by something else, I don't know mentally how I'll go on.

Man, the parts with the new characters added in royal really feel like they are written by someone else, someone better than the initial writer. I think thats what made my earlier opinion the way it was. The contrast between kasumi and maruki's thoughts and conversations is stark between everything else. Maybe it's because they expect most of the people playing royal have already played persona 5 (which i haven't) so they assume their audience is more familiar with the story and it's concepts. I couldn't help but wish I could interject in the early july conversation between kasumi, akechi, and joker.

Then you have maruki coming in even further from the other side so joker's opinion is right between them. It's perfect really. I especially like how Maruki's approach FEELS wrong but at least thus far, theres no logical problems with it and you'd potentially save lives. However, just being able to take a pill to ease heartache goes against our understanding of personal responsibility, but kasumi highlights that what the phantom thieves do also goes against the exact same understanding of personal responsibility, but the cases you actually deal with are so extreme it FEELS right to step in so you just hit some big cognitive dissonance at that point.

Of course the actual difference is that the phantom thieves don't care what happens to their targets, stealing their hearts isn't a way to help them, it's a way to help people hurt by the target. You even go so far as to risk the target outright dying which effectively makes it vigilante justice that is justified by the police being shown to be incompetent. Still, the whole thing is fascinating and the way they constructed this 3 way ideological standoff is very impressive so far.

Still, theres plenty of game left for them to ruin all this and JRPGs should be famous for how often they set up a thought provoking moral conflict only to completely pussy out and subvert it by making one side into comic book villains. Hopefully that doesn't happen here.

Managing to play through persona 5 royal a few hours a day. I'm in mid June now working my way through the 3rd palace. It's sorta weird and very anime how they cover fairly deep conflicting themes in one moment and then beat you over the head with something super obvious the next. I guess maybe they suspect half the game will be lost on average player so they just made some parts REALLY easy to follow.

Some of the stuff the phantom thieves fail to understand (particularly ryuji and ann) is almost comical but then there will be a conversation with someone else about the true nature of emotional pain and the rights one person has to influence another, but then they give up and assume you are too stupid to follow and dumb it down to something a 3 year old could understand, and then ryuji comes in with a "yeah I still don't get it at all man". It just makes those interactions come off as awkward. Ryuji isn't THAT dumb and you'd have to be downright lobotamized to not understand that a palace is how the target sees the world and thus changing their perspective in real life will effect the palace after morgana explains it like 10 times.

Thats all fairly nitpicky though, I really like the game. Honestly the lifesim/story part is probably more enjoyable than the rpg attached to it.

I started persona 5 royal. Seems like it's not too rough on me illness wise so hopefully I can play a lot of it. Played about 5 hours and I'm enjoying it so far. Decided to just play on normal to ease my hatred of time management. Hopefully I won't feel pressured if the RPG aspects are easy.

I rate hack//sign much more highly. I mean, the first thing that sets it apart is that it's the only MMO anime that is like an actual MMO. People troll and grief and afk in town and theres not a whole a lot to do if you actually play daily. I also really loved the brief moments it peels back the mask and shows the real life moments in black and white. They are so short but really powerful IMO. Especially BT when you see the class reunion thingy in the garbage and then she logs back on after saying she quit the game. People use "the world" as an escape in the same way real people do and I've met people that act like a lot of the characters in actual MMOs.

I also thought the identity of the main character was handled really well and the whole show just has this odd vibe to it that I enjoy. It has flaws for sure. Its really slow, the characters sometimes have pretty awkward conversations and the ultimate mystery is just ok but I still think it holds up as really good IF you play actual MMOs just for the character study alone.

I think SAO is fine and yeah mother's rosario was really good. I think reki's main talent is in making believable near future technology that is interesting. Both accel world and SAO have some really interesting technologies that don't feel that far fetched. I just think he doesn't do a great job at actually creating good characters and plots around it. I would be pretty surprised if we don't get something similar to full dive VR eventually and it probably won't look too different from the nerve gear. The integration of biology and technology in accel world seems like a reasonable step after that. It's not quite ghost in the shell, but I find most of reki's ideas about technology to be pretty interesting and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it becomes a case of people inventing that technology because of it's appearance in fiction.

I don't care remotely about manga. When you hear someone say that in anime, you can get from the sound and face they make exactly what it means without a note required. In concept though, yes, I like that. It's an easy way to pick up some vocab and info about japanese culture. The TL note is even off to the side so if you know what that meant without the note, it flows fine.

I generally prefer transliterations with translator notes if applicable but I accept that they don't do that anymore. The experience doesn't flow as well, but you learn more, and eventually similar situations actually do make sense just because you have the extra knowledge.

That not necessarily that off. The "language" of the subtitles is english so it just translated japanese to "the language being spoken" which for the subs is english. I think it's the wrong choice but it's not really that bad and it should be easy to understand given the context.

Watched the first episode of uzaki-chan. It's ok but not great. Honestly not even good. I did laugh a few times. Hopefully it gets better as the characters have more time to develop. Also damn how does her spine handle those massive boobs.

Also bought ghost of tsushima and persona 5 royal. No idea if I'll be able to handle playing either one but I have to at least try to keep myself occupied.

I'm really waiting around till august 20th. Got my meeting with a neurosurgeon that may lead to spinal surgery and rpg maker mz comes out so I can resume working on my game.

Honestly I just relate so much to the depression and hopeless the "cripples" feel in that show. It's like a perfect mirror of how I feel. Now that I'm done though I just feel extra depressed. Read all of UnOrdinary (which is a webtoon) in 2 days. Gave me a massive headache because of my condition but I couldn't put it down.

It's pretty good although the main character is probably the least likeable out of the entire main cast. A few predictions.

Remi is a bit too good and effective. She plays basically the same roll as euphemia did in code geass so I kind of suspect things either won't go her way or she will die. I have a bit of a hunch that the 2 research companies listed are behind ember and the kidnappers. NXGen works with the government, probably to capture or kill uncontrollable high tiers. Ember popped up around the same time as the smaller research company started up. Super heroes but in on their turf so wiping them out makes sense, I mean remi ran into their handiwork literally right off the bat as soon as she started being one.

I also suspect johns dad is probably related to the ability boosting/dampening effects. The authorities just let him off for writing the book that causes them so much trouble? I don't think so. He probably has the power to make anyone into a cripple. Additionally, abilities are somewhat hereditary so his ability should also be related to aura manipulation.and he too should be a high tier. Perhaps in exchange for working for NXGen they let him off the hook. On the other hand, the new research company that leilah works for must be the ones that stole the secret NXGen tech they mentioned in that one news report like 100 chapters ago and used it to create and sell the ability boosters.

I think for the most part it was otaku back in the early 2000s as the insult. Then people used it ironically in a self depreciating way to describe themselves, less socially aware fans didn't see the irony and took to just normally describing themselves as such, and then it stopped being an insult so a new insult popped up (well, newly popular) with weaboo and then the same thing happened and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens a 3rd time. The anime community is too socially unaware to stay insulted by any term which is kind of amazing.

Actual negative sentiment towards the anime community is really dying down the last few years though at least in my eyes. It's like 10 years behind gaming in acceptance I feel like. I mean, you still see people insulting anime, but you have to realize, the actual fanbase is like 5-10x what it was 10 years ago, and the insults are probably less than they have ever been despite anime being much more visible now. I think it's already passed the point of most resistance and it'll just be more and more normal over time.

omg, Mount&Blade: Three Kingdoms would be amazing.

Kinda surprised there wasn't a big mod for it. Maybe in bannerlord.

The only issue is the battle depth in mount and blade is way too basic. There's no objectives or stratagems or meaningful locations. All basic tactics of essentially ground units in front of archers on a hill or full squad of high tier heavy cav. I really wish they would overhaul battles and give you a reason to split your forces and hold strategic ground. Maybe have a base camp that can be taken and a similar reiforcement system thats in dynasty warriors with gates you capture that allies come from so the more you hold the more quickly you can get your reserves into the battle or just something to make every battle not exactly the same.

I rank 5 so low just because I felt that 3 and 4 were more energetic and had more content overall, especially with the Xtreme Legends expansions.

Yeah but 3 didn't have an empires although honestly it was more that I only played 3 in the store once. The first one I owned was 4 which was great fun.

I feel like the renbu system was garbage and I hated it so thats why I hated 6. After that they allowed weapon switching which really ruined the idea of playing as other characters when every character can basically be lu bu minus like 1 move.

I wish they would make a similar game but with actual deep combat where you aren't expected to cleave your way through 500 dudes by yourself but I guess mount and blade is as close as we are gonna get.

I still don't understand why god would allow satan to fuck with a bunch of people when he is supposed to be all powerful. It's like leaving someone in an abusive relationship when you have the power to just stop the abuser.

And unlike the real world, god actually IS always around to protect you so theres literally no point in being able to deal with things yourselves when he could just ensure you never have to deal with anything.

The problem is theres too much the average person doesn't know so they can't accurately assess if the events added up or not.

I guess technically if no one used your fiction to disprove the hypothesis it's slightly more likely to be true, but not by a meaningful amount. The question is basically asking, if you talk to a bunch of people about your hypothesis and none of them come up with reasons it can't work, is it more likely to be true than if you didn't do that. More likely, yes, but not necessarily likely in general.

I've only played enter the gungeon and I didn't get super far before I got distracted by other games. The dodge roll felt a bit uncomfortable for reasons I can't quite put into words and I don't like having ammo for power ups. Generally prefer roguelikes where you have a permanent (for that run) increase in power with a good system for comboing power ups (so something like isaac even though I haven't played that one).

I don't really like the idea of anime just being an advertisement for source though so I'd really prefer not to buy anything that's intentionally had an incomplete anime like konosuba (light novel but still).

I feel like in the US it's kinda considered bad during your twenties but then parents start reaching an age they need to be taken care of and it becomes normal again. This is a really stupid question, but does anyone know why March is typically skipped in slice of life anime?

Is it? I've seen white day in a few SoL anime and thats march 14th.

Narratively I guess it's not too much of a surprise. They probably spread the first 7-8 episodes evenly throughout the school year and then use the last 4-5 episodes to set up the finally which will take place at the end of the year so the parts of the school year that are like 70-90% are just not shown. They'd probably show april if they wanted spring or earlier if they wanted if winter.

I feel like time basically doesn't exist in most SoL shows outside of holidays and season starts.

Geass doesn't seem to be that long, about 50 episodes

They are both fantastic. Code geass is IMO one of the best anime of all time and has the best ending in anime (which isn't actually that impressive cause most anime have terrible endings). If you do watch it, the beginning of S2 drags quite a bit but then it picks back up and is great again. Geass is also like the most "anime" anime of all time. It's got highschools, its got super powers, its got mecha, its got waifus, it's got action, drama, comedy, it's got ridiculous stylistic flare, it's got romance, it's got edgy teenagers, it's got death note style mind games, philosophical pondering, ancient magic, a student council, nobles, combat maids, etc.

Your lie in april is a sad romance drama with a focus on music and its really good. Easily one of the best in its genre.

I still think season 1 is one of the best adventure shows of all time. Theres always some new pokemon related thing to see over every new hill whether it be in the wild or in town. I also think misty is a pretty good version of her archetype. Ashe is a dumbass but at least somewhat realistically the dumbass kid loses a shit ton and takes like 20 years to accomplish his goal after a ton of failures. Most shonen protagonists "never give up" but I can't think of any that have failed and kept going half as many times as ashe.

I can't remember honestly. I do vaguely remember being annoyed at how she fought with a lightsaber. I don't really remember disliking her more than the movie as a whole though. I only watched 7 of the new movies because it was such a disappointment.
