Is fantasy anime that large of a subgenre?

Theres a fair amount of it but I think JRPGs being basically fantasy anime with gameplay allow a pretty solid understanding of the genre. Scrapped princess and chrome shelled regios are my two lesser known fantasy recs. I really wish there were more. I'm always craving fantasy adventure and anime really doesn't deliver.

Yeah it is almost closed, I'll help push it along here. Been playing MHW on PC. Still has the same problems as it always has (too damn easy) but it's a lot more fun this time since my best friend has a PC and we play together for a lot of it. Sadly, this weekend was going to be a big monster hunter weekend but then my graphics card died saturday night so now I'm waiting for a new one to be delivered but the long weekend will of course be over by then. Unlucky.

Yeah scrapped princess is one of the better fantasy anime out there. Doesn't do anything super revolutionary but executes on the fantasy concept pretty well and looks good doing it (especially at the time).

Yeah but that just means theres an incentive to make an anime, not to keep making the anime. Once it's already gotten the anime popularity boost thats generally as popular as its gonna get whether or not you make more seasons of the anime. Thats why we get so many unfinished anime. Their job has been accomplished and they are no longer needed. Continuing from the point of anime success is where it gets iffy and the mangaka might actually lose money. A read the manga ending is intended to accomplish literally that and it usually works on enough people to be worth it sadly.

Yes, but if people have an anime that's as good as the manga, that would make it so less people would read the manga. Thus giving the mangaka less money. But even though I say that, it's just an assumption since I don't know what the pay ratio is for a mangaka when their work gets an anime. But if they got a good portion of it, then there probably would be more better anime.

Not a manga but thats what supposedly happened with KonoSuba. Apparently your anime being too successful is also not ok.

Watching kuroko no basket (which is decent) and I just saw a common arc that always pisses me off so much. The main team plays against a team that tries to cheat and permanently injure the people they play against. The good guys get beat up but they don't let it get to them and win. It's so predictable you can't really even spoil it. My problem is that they act like justice is served just by winning.

Fuck that, the assholes need to get paid back 10 fold. If the person intentionally and maliciously trying to cripple opposing players for life isn't at least rendered unable to ever walk again then the arc is utter trash. I'm so angry. Ideally those scum would be killed off but thats a bit beyond the scope of a sports anime. At least fuckin break their legs or something. Gah.

Haikyuu is still better IMO.

Am I the only one that hears "I keep my eyes useless" at the beginning of the boku no hero academia S3 OP? I know from the subs its supposed to be I keep my ideals (something japanese) but I can't help but hear eyes useless and it sounds so goofy.

Almost caught up to live. Some parts of the last arc were frustrating but oh well, thats shonen for ya.

Failed to find what I was gonna watch earlier, ended up starting S3 of boku no hero academia. Figured it'd been a while. I'll probably stop on whatever arc seems to be the last completed one and then get back to it after the season ends.

The show kinda bums me out. I am not even slightly interested in super heroes or villains and I generally don't like shonen. The fact that this show is so well executed ends up feeling like such a waste. It's still enjoyable, but if it had an entirely different premise with this quality it could have been one of my favorites. Oh well. At least it'll probably stand for a while as the best straight shonen (since hxh 2011 is basically a subversion).

Finished overlord season 2. It was nice but at the same time it feels like almost nothing happened. Needs like 50 more episodes. It's sort of got the game of thrones problem where there are so many plot threads that one season can barely advance most of them.

True but IIRC they stated early on while adapting bakemono that they would keep adapting it until it was finished. I may be misremembering but I think they were committed to going all in from the beginning even before it started printing money. It's still a mystery to me how that show has wide spread appeal. It's right down my alley so I'm happy about it but I'll never understand how it gained mainstream success.

Btoom is fairly old at this point. In the last year or so it actually feels like we get more full adaptations (or at least season 2 or even 3s) then previously. I'm with you though, nothing more frustrating than running out of episodes with no conclusion. I still prefer that to horrible endings but it's very frustrating. I wish everyone would take the stance shaft has with monogatari where they intend to adapt it forever until its done. Shaft is pretty great overall really. Then again they didn't finish nisekoi or maria holic so overall I guess they aren't much better than other studios in this regard.

Eva is barely a mecha show though. Their mechs are just a way to create crisis and conflict in the main characters lives. Ironically eva's mechs are a lot more grounded in their abilities than most mechs even in real robot mecha.

Similarly darling in the franxx is also barely a mecha show. It's actually got a lot of similarities with eva.

I fully recommend haikyuu. Even if you don't end up liking the story or characters its at the very least an 11/10 master production. The soundtrack is amazing and would make drinking a glass of water into an epic endeavor, the animation is top notch and really helps to sell everything but the real standout is the direction and cinematography. It's rarely utilized much in anime but the quick precise cuts and sound effects in haikyuu is something amazing and synergizes so well with the animation. The impact of the main characters "quick" (a move in volleyball) is incredible.

I think thats part of what is missing from hanebado (the badminton anime). It's hard to really understand badminton and its skill by just watching the opening match. We see that it's well animated but it's not easy to understand why one side is better or how.

In haikyuu even in the very first match it's made immediately and easily understandable even before you know anything about the sport. The action itself is directed in such a way that it's understandable all on its own.

In hanebado I just see them hitting the... idk what its called. The thing they hit, I guess. The speed doesn't really seem to matter, I don't really understand the placement or what is easy or hard to return. It all just feels random from my uninformed perspective. The last practice match against the coach showed a little bit and peaked my interested slightly.

I think they got carried away animating the opening match honestly. They should have either spent less time on it and gotten into current stuff faster or spent enough time on it to really explain to the audience what was happening aside from one side slaughtering the other side. They needed to show us what about the winner was actually good and why the loser was unable to match them if they were going to spend as much time on it as they did.

Watched the first 2 episodes of that badminton anime cause it had some hype and was done or written or something by the haikyuu people. It was ok. The animation is totally solid and the character designs feel unique and nice (the boobs are great and somehow seem a lot more realistic than normal anime).

The story is recycled sports junk. Talent vs effort, ex-pro that quit, genius coach (that is essentially the exact same character as the guy in the horse girl anime from last season right down to the groping of relevant sport muscles and coming across as a pervert).

So far I'm on the fence. It has not captured my desire as much as haikyuu. That show made me care about volleyball temporarily, this show has not made me care about badminton. Part of it just the sport itself. Its fuckin badminton, and I can't help but laugh in a lot of scenes that are serious because it's about such a silly sport. It's also very melodramatic. I'll probably watch a little more but could easily end up dropping it.

Man I'm looking for an rpg to play but I just feel like they all pale in comparison to xenoblade, xenoblade X, and FF 12. Specifically the worlds. XCX especially just feels like it ruined all the rest for me. I can't really go back to games that don't have an actual ecosystem of enemies (of varying levels). The fact that every area in that game is a beginner area and a mid game area and an end game area makes the effective world so much larger than other games where you can only meaningfully engage with a small fraction of the world at a time cause you are pitifully underleveled for some areas and massively overleveled for basically every area you already went through.

That one small feature of mixing in enemies of all levels and types into every area has such a massive impact on the feel of the game that everything without it just feels fake and disappointing. Not only does it mean that previous stuff but it also changes how you approach traveling throughout the game. Initially you are a little low level bitch and you gotta be real damn careful but as you level up you can overpower an increasing number of enemies and get better at identifying the ones you can't so you can travel more and more confidently. The skells and flight just add to that until eventually you are top dog and only have to fear a small handful of superbosses.

I guess FF 13 did a similar thing on gran pulse. Why doesn't literally every open world rpg with on screen enemies do this? Why aren't there more jrpgs focused on exploration in the first place (or alternatively bethesda could make a fantasy world thats visually more appealing). I almost wish I'd never played either of the xenoblade games.

I don't think that surprising darling revelation was actually as surprising as it appeared.

First we have people talking about leaving the shells of their body throughout the anime. Then we have a few of the APE people killed and they are clearly hollow as in like no body at all. This would imply some people already have been freed from their bodies. This all related to scientists that showed up out of the blue and revolutionize our species almost overnight.

Also VIRMAPE is an anagram for vampire and they were here to suck the world dry of its lifeblood (the magma energy). I mean when it happened initially I was pretty annoyed and feeling like it was just a shit plot turn but after some thought it wasn't too bad. I mean we KNEW that klaxosaurs would not end up being evil and that leaves us with like 6 dudes in some outerspace fortress as the only possible villains which wouldn't be that exciting to fight against.

PLUS it's ripping off of eva so clearly unit 002 I mean zero two has to nearly kill herself fighting off mass produced husks of what she is piloting and clearly shinji/hiro has to get unit 001's powers and fight against the instrumentality project/VIRM. They even tried to throw in a gay subtext scene with a blonde boy and our main guy near the end that results in blonde boy sacrificing himself for main guy and the fate of humanity despite himself being a different species. All it's missing is a piano. So upon thinking about it, this is just eva with slightly more sex metaphors. Fortunately I fucking love eva. Unfortunately I loath babies and pregnancy so eva is still best series between the two.

Damn yeah.

https://steamcommunity.com/id/kimgaemandoo/recommended/813700/

I didn't know the truth about the company until their latest release. Well, the review writer's profile looks like some kind of rebel. lol

At the very least, the "Yes" numbers that have been put on the review, I'm glad that many people have learned about them.

That review seems a little odd. The prevailing community sentiment towards early winged cloud games is that the writing was absolute shit garbage but the artwork was good.

The reason to not support winged cloud is cause the owner is literally a criminal scumbag lying and extorting people as well as possibly keeping wanaca (the artist of most of the games) in some sort of cult like situation where she has no access to her social media which is instead being kept up falsely by the guy running winged cloud. When his previous scams were uncovered he just closed up shop and opened a new company, several times, before he ended up opening winged cloud. He is a vile lying bastard who literally deserves serious jail time but no one has the hard evidence yet to put him away.

Theres really not much art needed for huniepop so I wouldn't be surprised if the old artist could squeeze it into his schedule especially since the first game has kinda become a big deal.

It's a shame the whole thing doesn't do much for me sexually. A single hentai image of each girl is just kinda meh since theres no story behind any of it. Kinda reminds me of those old sex kitten sim date flash games. The comedy though made the whole game totally worth it. Most of the characters are great. i love the teacher, kyu, and audrey the most probably (although I'd never want to be anywhere near her for real). Momo is nice cause I love catgirls and all but shes really nothing special so far. The alien was nice. Oh and the puzzle game is actually totally fun too. The active items (date gifts) really shake it up.

Just finished up watching GGO. The ending was pretty awful and theres really no reason to bother-IS WHAT I WOULD HAVE SAID. That last scene before the credits though! All worth it. Pito best girl even though I hated her up till this episode. Now my thoughts are mixed. In a lot of ways its worse than the original SAO and maybe even the original GGO but on the other hand, its not trying nearly as hard and, well, you know...

Only have 1 episode left of comic girls but I've been putting it off cause I don't want it to be over.

Also played some ecchi games like huniepop (only like 2 bucks on steam sale) and another of the sakura games (which I got without paying because winged cloud is an evil company that does not deserve money).

Got the last episode of megalo box left to watch but I just really don't care. I guess I'll watch it. Also will go ahead and knock out that yuri triangle short anime cause why not, I'm already yuri trash anyway.

Wish I had a really good long jrpg to get invested into.

I just rewatched the first 1 1/3rds seasons of durarara and finally watched the rest of it for the first time. It is one of a kind, even baccano isn't really that similar. However, I think I liked the first season the best. Things were a lot more balanced in it. The second season was still good, and probably more engaging, but not as interesting IMO. I also feel like mikado was just never interesting. The show tried to build him up so much but it just always felt like bullshit. I don't think they did a good job with his character past the first season.

Everyone else was pretty great though. I wish the orihara sisters got more screen time. Was happy with the brief yuri fanservice they brought as well as the other yuri fanservice with erika and anri. Izaya (especially in the dub) is probably my favorite villain in anime. A truly interesting character. I feel like he has a lot people can empathize with which makes him so compelling despite being obviously evil. He's a bad guy you sometimes can't help but root for and when you see him terrorizing someone thats not in the main cast you can't help but enjoy it.

Wow the most recent GGO episode (episode 11) was awful again. What the hell is going on with this show? The fighting is so inconsistent. One episode its tactical and smart, the next its bombastic but exciting, then the next its people acting completely stupid and missing entire clips of automatic weapons on stationary targets 10 feet away repeatedly.

Like the amount of time people are just waiting around to get killed basically is absurd and accuracy has to be bordering on 1-2% for the main character and the villain and yet they are "the best". You can also apparently survive 4 shots from an anti material sniper rifle as long as you are a main character but then one stray MG bullet half healths you and leaves you downed for no reason at all in pain. Seriously why are characters responding as if things actually hurt like half the time? We already know it doesn't. I know it had production issues earlier in the season that had stuff getting outsourced and a recap episode after only 5 episodes so maybe thats what happened again but this was not the episode to let get fucked up.

The bad guys also explicitly said why the wouldn't do something and explained the reasoning for like 2 minutes before immediately doing exactly that thing they said they wouldn't do (and regretting it for the exact reasons they specified). It's like half the script was lost in an electrical fire so the authors 5 year old son filled in the missing parts. Hopefully the final episode is one of the good ones.

Well yeah but I just mean that seeing godlike detailed animation doesn't really correlate with a high budget because as we all know animators get paid virtually nothing anyway and you only need so many animators to make something good. I think extra time is more likely to correlate with great animation as opposed to extra money cause hiring extra animators usually means a loss of quality and consistency rather than the other way around.

I hear that ufotable don't actually spend a tremendous amount on the fate things, they are just that good at animation. Kind of similar to how one punch man was confirmed to have a very average anime budget.

Watching more comic girls. It's definitely on the good side of the creative process based anime. It honestly was kinda meh in the first couple episodes, main girl was too whiney. All of its gotten much better though and I feel like they effectively touch on actual creative issues pretty well. It's got that double shot of motivation since its creation related AND yuri. Perfect blend. Granted the yuri doesn't really go anywhere but it's still nice.

*applause* All of that is good information, and I agree, though I think Love To-LIE-Angle is silly.

Yeah its a pretty mediocre show but I enjoy its aggressive low budget yuri.

The only good purely yuri hentai I'm aware of is shoujo sect. It actually has engaging plot and characters as well as of course lots of lesbian action. It also has a fantastic soundtrack. All around a much higher level production than most hentai. I think it was the only hentai I had listed on my anime list and one of the few I actually watched straight through instead of skipping around.

Aside from that I'm generally only watching clips when I want yuri. The clips I do see I often don't know what they are actually from (although even then, there aren't many pure yuri scenes of quality). I really can't be of much help.

The hottest yuri scenes IMO aren't from hentai. The scenes with ecchan in kuzu no honkai and all the scenes with kuro in prisma illya are pretty top tier. Oh right, valkyrie drive mermaid was basically hentai but somehow counted as just ecchi and its full yuri. Nothing truly amazing but it had some hot scenes in it. Basic plot is girls kiss other girls to turn them into weapons (temporarily) and fight each other for stupid plot reasons. The netsuzou trap anime was total garbage but it's yuri scenes were borderline hentai and pretty good.

Really starved for yuri in the anime and hentai realms and so much of what we get is either a side part of something else or trash production. Then again there aren't many good yuri manga worth adapting either so it's not surprising. At least it's much less painful than it was pre yuru yuri when all yuri seemed fucking law bound to have a tragic ending.

Just watched love to lie angle or whatever the fuck its called. It's such a shame. It's what I've always wanted. A true yuri ecchi harem, but..... it looks the entire budget was half a bag of potato chips and each episode is like 3 minutes long.

Frankly what we do get is fine content wise, there just isn't even close to enough of it. Hopefully one day yuri will get the budget and attention it deserves.

This one was nice in particular because its like the only ecchi i've seen to focus on the lower body. Lots of "oh I forgot to wear my panties" and convenient tripping to land face first into some other girls crotch. While it's all obviously censored I feel like a lot of times ecchi almost forgets that body part exists. Course there is plenty of boob grabbing and stuff here too, its quite lewd.

Newest episode of GGO throwin some surprise yuri fanservice at me (it was inconsequential but I enjoyed it). Also watching comic girls because it TOO is light yuri despite not being listed as it. Yuri hidden everywhere, what a wonderful time.

Overall though I've been bored out of my skull the last few days. Finished a rewatch of the first 25 episodes of death note. It holds up ok. It wasn't as smart as I remember it but it's probably been a decade since I'd last seen it.

I wanna play all the cool samurai games announced at E3. Sekiro, nioh 2, and ghosts of tsushima specifically. I have high hopes for Nioh 2 especially, I feel like the devs massively improved throughout their DLC releases and if they can tackle a whole new game with that design skill it should be amazing. Will probably still be balanced like shit though.
