Finished up realist hero and watched this week's kingdom. Realist hero was fine. Worth watching but not more than that. The ending was a complete non ending though. Feels like there should just be another episode next week. Fortunately a season 2 was announced.

This week's kingdom though, man it was over in an instant. Felt like actually 2 minutes. I had to make sure the video didn't corrupt or something because it just didn't feel like that could have possibly been 20 minutes. Kingdom still great though, still loving it. Can't wait for next week, it's gonna be a big episode.

Season is ending and I'm wrapping up shows. Finished off tsukimichi and dragon maid today. They were both highlights in a pretty weak season. I'm sad there won't be another of each one next week. Also finished off slime yesterday. A very weak season for it but it did at least pick up in the last 2 episodes and ended on a decent note. I think I just have the last episode of realist hero this weekend and about 6 episodes of villainess to catch up on and then the season will be over. Next season is gonna be great though.

they started selling outfits with artes in vesperia

I don't know where you are getting this from but the only arte locked behind DLC in the entire series is a mystic arte in zestiria. The arte related costumes in vesperia can be gotten from the 200 man melee as mentioned. And again it's not like 1 or 2 artes, its fucking 18. That's like a 5th of the artes in the game. The costumes also ain't cheap, it's 30 bucks to get all 18 artes.

Tales of arise is great so far IMO. A few frustrations like no individual strategy settings (so you can't tell one character to keep their distance and other characters to go in) and shitty DLC practices but man the game is just fun.

Kingdom is still great and realist hero is still good. They actually used modern military principles exactly in the latest episode of realist hero.

Did they shoehorn in a Zestiria-style crafting system?

The graphics on a technical sense are clearly the best they've ever been by a mile. Aesthetically I really enjoy the painted look they went for, it looks really good IMO and most reviewers seem to agree.

The controls can be fully remapped so I don't think any control setup issue is a legitimate thing to hold against the game. I actually like the default controls. Being able to move the camera while doing normals between artes is nice for keeping all the enemies on screen.

I'm loving the game EXCEPT the ultra scummy DLC. Outside of that I don't think I have a single complaint. They really did lock artes behind paid DLC costumes though and not just one or two but 18 (3 per character) and you'd need to pay 30 bucks to get all of em. Someone deserves a dick punch for that one. Hopefully modders put it in for free before long.

Man, what a chill episode of dragon maid this week. Tsukimichi and goddess dorm continue to be watchable. I'm finally feeling the end of the season approaching. Only 1 or 2 more episodes for most of what I'm watching.

Supposedly they recently patched that and also I think it unlocks same time globally for everywhere outside of japan (who already have it). It looks to release on steam right around when I'll wake up so just gotta hold on for 8 or so more hours today before going to sleep.

EDIT: Actually on the tales board seems it is working for xbox people, but not for new zealand, got to set it to japan.

Been watching moriarty the patriot. Currently about half way through the second season. It's not bad exactly but it's not really gripping me either. I also feel like they kind of jumped the shark in 2nd season in what had been an extremely grounded anime thus far.

I feel the show fails as a mystery anime. Whilst there clearly are mysteries, the solution is generally presented alongside the set up so theres no time for the viewer to even attempt to solve the mystery themselves. A lot of the inferences they make are also absurd.

So without mystery what even is the show? Well not action, there have been like 3-4 action scenes in 18 episodes and the action is often either off camera or ridiculous. I guess it's a political thriller? Except without the thriller part or really any political depth aside from bad rich people are bad.

Theres not really anything about the show I dislike, but theres not much that I like either. It's getting notably harder to keep watching more episodes.

I still think the only good mystery anime are hyouka and higurashi. It's a shame really, cause I quite enjoy good mysteries but I feel like anime have real trouble with both that and horror.

I really thought I'd like Jahy-sama more. The plot is basically just devil is a part timer but with a cute girl protagonist and I loved part timer but this just isn't doing it for me. It's a comedy show thats told like 2 jokes over 3 episodes that I've seen. The pacing on the comedy is soooo slow because between every damn line we have to hear Jahy's inner monologue where she explains that she is the great dark realm second in command and it's so unfair and embarrassing that she is reduced to this. Bitch I already know that, I've been watching the show the whole time and I heard you the first 20 times you thought that. Not sure if I should continue with it or not.

Yeah but kirito isn't just interested in swordfighting, he's actively trained it, which I imagine is a fair bit rarer.

Is there anything niche about kirito other than sword skills cause his family owns a dojo? He's pretty featureless. Likes gaming, knows how to swordfight, is interested in electrical engineering and Ai development. Aside from swordfighting, that probably describes a large portion of MMO players.

Also oddly, in this latest shitty arc, despite kirito getting some OP powers, the villains by far had the more ridiculous unearned power ups. Made zero sense how one dudes mid tier GGO character can somehow do...that. Was even more bullshit then kirito magically not dying in the heathcliff fight.

He literally isn't though. He's arguably the 2nd best player in aincrad which is a group of like 10,000 people. I've been ranked number 1 in larger pools of players and no one is making an anime about me. Then after that game he goes on to lose, usually more than once, in every game he plays. He loses at least twice in aincrad, he loses in ALO, he loses in GGO, he loses during the mothers rosario arc (more than once IIRC), he loses several times in alicization and he's a vegetable for 80% of war of the underworld. Dude is practically the 2nd coming of ash ketchum. He is boring though but not any more boring than a lot of harem protags.

Kanojo mo kanojo outdoes itself again. The main guy is truly a menace to society. It's fun how the show actually avoids a lot of tropes even though it's light hearted and making fun of itself. Main guy actually can tell when other people like him even if he is dumb as rocks.

I play the SAO games and pretend Kirito does not exist. It helps.

To be honest I don't feel like kirito is all that bad. For an "OP" protagonist, he loses an awful lot throughout the series. The problems with the latest arc had only a little to do with him. In the previous worst arc (ALO) it's not really shit cause of kirito, it's shit cause of the villain and terrible writing.

Damn this weeks realist hero was over in a flash. I do like to see him using modern military convention (which is to keep moving the battlefield to throw the enemies off guard and force mistakes to capitalize on even if the show is only sorta doing that).

The animation for the fights was...well it wasn't animation, it was slideshow stills. A fairly large disappointment coming from JC Staff. Oh well, I suppose that part is not super important.

Speaking only of the anime and I haven't seen the movie I'd say the first arc (aincrad) is pretty decent with a bit of an asspull ending. The 2nd arc (ALO) sucks ass. The 3rd arc (GGO) is ok, not good but watchable. The 4th arc is filler and I guess is watchable. The 5th arc (mother's rosario) is actually really good. The 6th arc (alicization) is decent with some high highs and low lows. The 7th arc (war of the underworld) is gutter trash that should be destroyed. The 8th arc (inter intelligence war) is next but I'm not sure I'll watch it. At this point I'm like 100 episodes into SAO so it feels pretty bad not to see it through and the anime says that next arc is the last one, but the 7th arc was just so freakin bad.

If I were to rate arcs It'd be like:
Mother's Rosario 9/10
Aincrad 7/10
Alicization 6/10
GGO 6/10
Filler arc 5/10
ALO 3/10
War of Underworld 0/10

I managed to finish the last season (currently) of SAO. What a shitshow. It's bad in like every catagory of writing. The science makes no sense, the characters make no sense, the fights make less than no sense. They constantly set up rules and then break them. Everyone in this universe is either a cartoon villain rapist or the nicest person to ever live. On top of all that, they ended it on cliffhanger.

I know this doesn't really need saying, but my god is the writing in the recent parts of SAO atrocious. The writing has never been good in SAO outside of that one side story but the war in underworld is just plot hole after plot hole. In fact, saying plot hole makes it sound like theres some amount of plot that does stand up that has a hole in it, but this is just entirely hole. I feel like I usually fall on the defending side of SAO. It's not great, but the majority of it isn't that bad either. Like this season has spirit chronicles that is somewhat similar but easily worse and it's sitting above a 7 (somehow). SAO is solidly average with good production values but that does not extend to this arc, holy shit.

The production side of stuff is actually pretty good. The fights look cool visually and the OST is still pretty good but I just feel sorry for the poor animators that put in this amount of good work on something so utterly garbage. It's gone beyond being merely bad and at this point I'm just rage watching it which is not something I've done in quite some time.

Man haikyuu is so damn good. Finished up the last of the anime for now. The last game they played was the best IMO. They didn't even really feel like an underdog, which in itself just shows you far all the characters have come.

Goddess dorm continues to be one the horniest ecchi shows I've seen. Kinda feel like I'm getting bored of slime isekai. I think they just killed the pace too hard with all the meetings so that even though things are finally happening, I just don't feel that invested.

Its suprising how likeable the main character is considering:
A) its a shonen
B) main character is a young boy (my god no screaming!)

I think a large part of it is that there is a huge cast of characters and gon is never presented as being anywhere close to the strongest, which keeps him humble and the stakes high. He's presented as someone with good potential but a long way to go and the story isn't afraid to let someone else take center stage for large portions of the show.

I don't think so in that way. For me anime did that. I really miss when a piece of media frequently had the ability to change or at least inform my worldview. Feels like I've seen all there is to see at this point even if thats not true.

This topic has been slow lately. Kingdom is still great, everything else I'm still watching is still good I guess. Tales of arise can't come soon enough.

Mostly unrelated but I was playing some mount and blade:warband recently, which is kinda like dynasty warriors+civilization or something. Anyway, given that it has a fair amount of horses in it (you mostly fight from horseback, it's even in the title) steam now thinks I love horse games and all my recommendations are for horses games which is mostly really weird furry VNs and horse care simulators I wish I could go back to not knowing existed.

The first episode gives a pretty good impression of what you can expect. Mild comedy, lots of titty (except his episode for some reason), and mildly erotic situations. It's just weird to me this week because it seems like it was a censored version or something despite the situations probably being the most sexual of any of the episodes.

Yeah but the end of the 2011 anime was honestly a fine point to stop at. It's not like theres some important goal that hasn't been completed. If anything, the initial reason gon decided to go and do stuff has been sorted out. Most of the plot threads have been resolved.

I like OPM, but the others (except Juju K, which I'm not familiar with) are kinda eh.

Assuming hunter is hunterxhunter, I think it, opm, and jujutsu are some of the best shonen. Admittedly juju is somewhat carried by very good animation but the characters are at least moderately more mature than something like fairy tail. The way they approach having to kill people was handled pretty believably, like humans might actually do, instead of tropey anime characters.

Gah, theres not enough good anime in the world. I really want more world trigger or something similar with military tactics but I've seen everything good that exists. Why couldn't military strategy have been the genre to pop off instead of isekai? Then again, bad military shows suck whereas trash isekai and moe blob before it are still watchable.

Speaking of trash isekai, spirit chronicles is pretty damn trash. It kinda feels like it was written by someone who really liked SAO but is somehow less competent as a writer. Probably dropped for me although it's a slow season so who knows. The somewhat similar tsukimichi has actually been getting better and better IMO so I'm still watching that.

Kanojo mo kanojo continues to 1-up itself on stupidity, but in a good way.

Feel like I'm always lookin for the same two genres, military and fantasy adventure, and theres never enough of either.

Maaaaan, kingdom episode got delayed AGAIN. This time cause of the tsunami. Why does anime production have to be so last minute? On top of that, this weeks slime, after 5 episodes of talking in a meeting, was an episode of different people talking in a meeting. It's been talking for 6 episodes straight. Go hit someone already. Not much of substance is being said either so it's just hard to watch. Goddess dormitory was great though.

I went back and watched world trigger season 1 cause I had nothing else to watch. It's way worse of a production than season 2. It's actually a pretty good representative of the changes shounen adaptations have undergone in the last 5 or so years. Season 1 has atrocious pacing, reuses so much animation and has tons of stills, and has a 15 episode garbage filler arc that was really hard to push through. Season 2 on the other hand has no filler, good pacing, and good animation. Season 1 released weekly for 73 episodes and season 2 was just a single cour with season 3 coming later the same year, also for a single cour.

It basically highlights the shift from weekly to seasonal shounen. The actual plot and characters (disregarding the filler arc) isn't any better in season 2, but the production changes make it so much better to watch. I think it'd be interesting to see some of the older weekly shounen get a new seasonal adaptation. One piece would be a great candidate, although it's so long it'd still take like 15 years to catch up to where the current anime is even with it's garbage pacing. Would also be kinda cool to see a tightly paced, well animated pokemon season of just 12 episodes.

I didn't feel like season 2 was too dialogue heavy. There's quite a bit of action in those 12 episodes. There is a fair amount of talking in some parts but it generally feels important. i wonder if it's just a season 1 thing since I've heard the pacing there is awful and theres tons of inner monologues from glasses dude in season 1 which aren't present in season 2.

Just finished watching season 2 of world trigger. I never watched season one. The show looked kinda interesting but all the reviews and stuff made season 1 seem like I would hate it, I think there were probably right. Season 2 was awesome though honestly. The fights are pretty top tier for shonen strategy. The main team is kind of annoying though. Person that can't shoot people and incredibly weak guy getting hard carried by white hair boy. Like, yeah they have great strategy, but it only works because kuga can basically 1v3 and it's only needed cause the sniper won't shoot people and the other guy is dead weight in combat.

And yeah, you can make that work and they do, but it just feels like it'd be infinitely more enjoyable if they didn't have to deal with that handicap.

It was kinda fun jumping in at season 2 though. I had literally no idea about anything in the show or even who the main characters were. I didn't figure out who the mains were until like episode 5 and there were all these terms and factions and teams and tech. Was fun sorting it all out for the first few episodes. Now I actually eagerly await season 3.

Slime is starting to take the piss. They've been having a meeting for 5 episodes. I like them to develop the plot and stuff but like, move it along. There weren't 5 episodes worth of things to discuss, they just really dragged it out.

I hope next anime season is better. The only thing to exceed my expectations this season was kanojo mo kanojo but that show is more like a guilty pleasure than actually good. Meanwhile a ton of things feel like a let down.

Kanojo mo kanojo is stupid. I love it. Also I feel like for the first time ever in a harem anime I saw the male lead fall down unrealistically and NOT land on a girl despite there being 3 nearby. Instead he fucking faceplanted on the concrete right next to them. Hilarious.

Jahy finally started. No idea why it didn't start until this late in the season but oh well. It was a solid first episode.

Realist hero continues to be fun but man, it feels like every episode is 2 minutes long. Like the current episode, he ate some noodles, he talked to the old prime minister, and he ate some more noodles at a cafe. Somehow that took 22 minutes. And it's not like it felt slow while I was watching it. Good show though. Not great, but easy to watch and enjoyable enough.

Sorta on topic I've been playing that new pokemon moba. Turns out even a casual moba with 10 minute matches for 8 year olds is infuriating to have bad teammates in. I say for 8 year olds but it's probably more people around my age. Kinda wish they had a single player or co-op pokemon game with this same style of combat. I've been wishing they would do that with league for ages ever since the odyssey game mode they had during an event a few years back. I guess something like diablo or PoE are similar, but it's not quite the same.

Suikoden may be a good thing to check out. I know I played one of em way back, either 2 or 3 I think, but I don't remember much. I've dropped valkyria chronicles and valkyria chronicles 4 before. I don't really know why, but I just do not enjoy the game play of it. I also don't like xcom which is kind of similar so I guess that style just doesn't do it for me. I remember liking the anime though.

Maybe it's different in further entires, but trails in the sky 1 and cold steel 1 don't offer the perspective I'm looking for, at least early on. I didn't finish either of those either. It's weird, i enjoy that series but it's almost like theres too much good supplemental information. I feel like I need to talk to every NPC at every part of the game and it ends up killing the pace. The combat in trails 1 is also too damn slow to where it feels really tedious in fights that aren't difficult.

I wish there was a game with tactics ogre/FFT story, dynasty warriors battles, and nioh combat, but also better than those games at each of those aspects.

Yep. I've seen like the top rated 100+ military anime. i don't think theres any hidden gems left I don't know about. Hope tanya gets a 2nd season eventually although it's also not really what I'm looking for in a war anime. I want the conflict at the strategic and political levels, not just the tactical one. Stuff like code geass or legend of the galactic heroes or kingdom.

In the game front, the two that really stand out are FFT:WotL and tactics ogre: let us cling together. something like those would be great, not that it really needs to be a tactical rpg, but the overall story and approach to it although both end up more magical than I'd like. It's kind of depressing when I think about it, the two best examples came out like 20+ years ago.I want something like those but much better. I feel like it happens so often when I look back, there was something that amazed and made me wanna see where they were gonna go from there within the genre but they just go nowhere and it turns out that was the peak instead of the beginning of something truly great.

Was doing a bit of looking around about AoT and it seems the ending of the manga is really not well received which I was already worried about. Really hoping I end up liking it but not expecting to. I feel like I'm far more critical of endings than the average person and a bad ending completely ruins an otherwise good show for me.

I definitely intend to. Didn't realize it was getting one next season. Although, aren't they fighting against aliens? The point where AoT gets good IMO is when they are fighting humans. Seeing both sides of the conflict really elevates things for me. Not that I don't intend to watch it regardless.

Whelp, I watched the last 16 episodes of what is out of AoT today. I feel like it deserves the hype although I am naturally worried about it delivering a good ending.

It's easily one of my favorite takes on war. They clearly establish why fighting is necessary but they also show just how horrific and tragic it is. I feel like most things go too far and basically try to say wars shouldn't be fought no matter what, but this just makes it clear everyone is in a shit situation.

Wow, I can't believe how much I managed to watch today. Starting at episode 4, I watched all the way to the end of season 3 which I think was 19 episodes, all in one day. I don't even feel too sick. Maybe I've been getting a bit better. What a damn good season it was too.

I beat Ys 8. It's good. I regret not playing on inferno though cause hard was definitely too easy. On the other hand, some late game enemies were already a bit too spongy.

Also I started catching up on attack on titan because theres not enough action this season. I'd already seen the first 2 seasons and now I'm on the last episode of the 3rd season part 1. I definitely think this is my favorite season thus far. In a way, it reminds me of game of thrones where the most interesting part is when the supernatural elements aren't in use and it's just very human political maneuvering. I feel the titans are the least interesting part of the show just like the ice zombies were the least interesting part of game of thrones.

Episode 2 of aquatope kinda pissed me off. I guess spoilers although this is a slice of life bitch sends out the new girl to feed animals that proceed to hurt her, with no training or instructions other than "feed them" and then get mad when it goes wrong? New girl could probably sue the shit outta the aquarium after that and it kinda ruined the whole episode for me. Not sure I'll continue watching because even aside from that it just wasn't very entertaining.

Villainess is still awesome but no surprise there.

Kingdom finally started back again and it was a pretty good episode. I wish I could just binge the whole thing but I don't have the patience to wait for it to finish in however many months that'll be.

Realist hero is really growing on me. This week's episode was basically just introducing 5 characters but it was somehow exciting. Kanojo mo kanojo is also still fun. Seems a lot of people really hate the main character but I think he's funny.

I love NijiEn. They have such good chemistry and they actually play stuff together constantly. And niji in general is much less concerned about seiso or idol image so they go pretty off the rails.
