I thought Hillary drilled that into everyone already.

I've been running for a few months now, and I'm gonna run in my first 10k on Sunday! Previous to this, I don't think I'd ever ran for two consecutive miles, let alone six.

Excited but also kinda nervous.

I liked Bioshock Infinite quite a bit, but I didn't really care for the DLC. It tries a bit too hard to tie things up into a neat package and arguably makes the story worse as a result.

Glad to see somebody commenting on the topic at hand instead of on Vlado for once. That said, facebook advertising is currently by far the most effective, anyone who knows that will focus the majority of their funds on facebook. Really hard to buy this 100k as a Russian government thing, then. Most likely private parties. And let's not forget the ads were NOT focused on candidates or on Trump himself.

This isn't necessarily the case. If you have the right audience data and you're targeting specific segments, it can be more effective to use the money on other sites. It's also not as simple as funneling everything through Facebook, because otherwise everyone would do that.

I was weirdly curious how the numbers worked out, partly because I work in adtech.

So Russia supposedly spent 100k, and apparently an additional 50k is suspected of being spent but not directly linked. Average CPM (cost per 1000 views) for Facebook is around $7. This means a total of ~14M views if it's just the 100k, ~21M if the additional 50k is counted.

How many people does that reach? It depends on the frequency capping, which determines how often a given user will see an ad. If a given user only sees an ad once (unlikely), then that's a full 14M people reached. However, it's far more likely that a given user saw these ads more than that.

Still, depending on the targeting, that many ads (over a short period of time) can be influential, especially since the population of Wisconsin and Michigan added together is around 16M. Advertisers also usually don't just stick to one site-- it's much more efficient to spend money across many sites, which can add up to a whole lot more than 100k.

It's honestly impossible to really determine the scope of the effect without full information though.

I don't really have a good reason for why I typed this other than being bored on a bus.

I went to see the Rickmobile a month or so ago when it stopped at Berkeley. The line was so long that it took us like five minutes of walking just to find the end.

We decided that it was not even worth half that wait and went into the brewery it was parked at for some beers instead.

Overall, pretty good trip because I like that brewery and there were some pretty decent costumes.

Vlado-san stood silently for a moment, his back turned on the evildoers.

"Yes, it does," Vlado-san said, tightening his fist.

Vlado-san whirled around, an accusatory finger pointed as his green hair blew in the wind.

"In the end, you're literally supporting censorship."

He clenched his fist again, remembering his master's words.

"I stand for liberty. Therefore, everyone here knows I am the one who is right...BAKA!"
