A Las Vegas bartender has filed a lawsuit against his employers for allegedly being forced to pay back money that was robbed from the business at gunpoint.

Edward Parker, 42, was finishing his shift at Lodge Hualapai on 4 December 2020 when a gunman entered the bar and pointed his weapon at him.

Mr Parker was forced to kneel on the ground with his hands on his head while the gunman took all the cash available at the counter, the lawsuit said. The intruder allegedly made off with nearly $4,000 (around 3,000).

Edward was terrified during the ordeal and feared for his life, the lawsuit said.
However, hours later, his employers told him it was his job to pay the money back. They offered him a repayment contract and forced him to work in unfavourable conditions, the lawsuit said. It added that Mr Parker was worried about losing his job and therefore signed it.

Over the next few months, an amount of $300 was reportedly deducted from each paycheck until it equalled the amount stolen by the gunman. The lawsuit also said that this harassment by his employers led him to major anxiety and panic attacks.
However, he had no option but to continue working, he said in the lawsuit.

His ordeal did not end with the repayment. He was later demoted to extra board status, which meant that he would be called in for work only when the bar required it, instead of having a regular job. For months, he did not get any work and now lives outside the state.
Two people were arrested in connection with the robbery. The lawsuit stated that no evidence was found by the police of Mr Parkers involvement in the incident.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Edward knew these individuals or had anything to do with their actions, the complaint said.

This isnt the first time The Lodge, which is made up of several restaurant locations across the Las Vegas Valley, has faced a lawsuit. In 2016, the company was sued by past employees who alleged that they were paid below the minimum wage.

Just to add to this, I actually think its harmful when historical American movies don't use it and depict slavery or segregation in an almost happy way.

Gods and generals springs to mind. No slurs, all of Jacksons slaves are missing, he says he wants slaves to fight in the army as a condition for freedom (never ever ever happened) and all the slaves there are well treated and love their masters. There's no slurs or blood or abuse or violence. Everyone laughing together round the camp.

She's the most attractive girl you've ever met in your life and you're on a date with her. Except all she seems to talk about is Golduck.

No matter what you say or do, she somehow expertly manages to weave the conversation back to Golduck or an ancedote featuring Golduck.

At one point you go to the toilet and when you get back you see her in mid conversation with the bartender being like "Oh you're from Marseille? You know in France they call Golduck "Akwakwak" what's up with that? Golduck is way better."

And it continues for the whole night.

After the date is over she messages you saying "I had a great time tonight, it was almost as fun as when I soloed Pokemon Yellow with Golduck and beat the Elite 4 at level 47. We should go out again."

The one that gets me is the repeated Tory claim that the only reason the UK has a vaccine rollout is because of Brexit

Despite the fact

  1. The UK was still in the EU that entire time.
  2. The UK and Germany worked very closely together on developing and trialing vaccines and the logitical means to supply them. AT THE TIME Germany even got pissed that the UK news was cutting out their invovlement.

It makes sense to me.

There's so many benefits and welfare systems and confusion out there

There's so many people who can't afford rent or go to collegue or put the heating on.

Universial Income or whatever you want to call it just sounds like it would cost LESS in tax than we spend on Welfare and costs that occur from crime and homelessness.

And would be a moral and pragmatic gain.

I'm not an economist but I don't really see the argument against it?

I mean I DO Get the logic of "IF everyone gets $800 a month then after a few years the cost of living will rise by $750 a month." Which is true

But how is that different than what's happening now? Inflation has been a thing for a long time and that's more to do with the failures of America's right wing government to have a healthy economy.

Because advancements in science have a net gain advantage on everyone.

Cutting out the smart people from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Switzerland just creates a net negative for the future of all the people in Europe and the world.

Do you really care whether or not the dudes who handled clinical trials of the Covid vaccine came from Belfast or not?

Remember, it wasn't until the right wing voted Brexit and forced this divide that all these scientists ever considered not working together.

The EU is being urged to stop punishing scientists and end the year-long delay in letting British universities and laboratories access its flagship 10bn Horizon Europe funding programme.

Scientists across the UK and Europe have launched a campaign to get the UK admitted into the programme amid continuing fears that Brussels is using the fund as leverage in negotiations over the Northern Ireland protocol.

The EU agreed to associate membership for the UK as part of the wider Brexit trade deal struck on Christmas Eve 2020 but it has still not ratified the deal or a similar one with Switzerland, held up by a dispute over a draft treaty binding the country to the bloc.
The Swiss astronomer and Nobel prize winner Didier Queloz described the delays as a tragedy for science in the UK, Switzerland and Europe.

Lord Kinnoull, the chair of the House of Lords European affairs committee, which has recently investigated the impact of the delay, said: This is a mutual self-harm problem. And thats not good for something very precious, which is European scientific research.

Last week we had two British academics and a European academic in front of us and there was a great clarity from all of them about how this was harmful to European science. Collaborative projects are much more than just a cheque if you say you have a half-funded project you are very keen to do, you are not necessarily going to get the thumbs-up.
Queloz, who is backing a Europe-wide campaign by scientists across the bloc to get membership ratified for the UK and Switzerland, said: To be blunt, politicians have decided to use participation in Horizon Europe as a bargaining chip in wider negotiations.

UK scientists attack 'reckless' Tory cuts to international research

He wrote in the Financial Times: If this is the way the game plays out, everybody loses. We risk destroying a fantastic tool that the EU has spent decades developing by excluding two of the biggest players in the global research arena for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with the programme itself.

Scientists say the days of solo science are long gone, with collaboration responsible for success in everything from the development of Covid vaccines to Quelozs discovery of a new extrasolar planet. Queloz urged politicians to pause for a moment and consider the damage they were doing.

As a scientist holding posts at the universities of Cambridge and Geneva, I recognise that I am conflicted. But, approaching 60, this decision wont affect my career very much. I am not batting for myself, Im batting for the future generation of scientists who will be held back by this failure of politics. If the UK and Switzerland walk away, the Horizon budget will be lower; there will be fewer opportunities for young talent to spend time in our great universities, he said.

Ludovic Thilly, the chair of the executive board of the Coimbra group of 41 universities across Europe, said: We cannot accept any longer that scientific cooperation be held hostage to bilateral politics. A decade of cooperation with our British and Swiss partners is at risk of being jeopardised, and this at a period of time when global challenges have never required so much international research cooperation.

All this nonsense just for a different color passport that you could just get anyway if you wanted.

I don't think Americans/Asians/Africans historically will ever truly understand how utterly stupid Brexit was. As well as how harmful constantly voting Tories has been and will be for the scientific community. Just firmly keeping the nation in the 20th century.

Eh, I don't mind that

Unlike the other games your boy in Fallout 4 is supposed to be a hardened military combat veteran and right before you fight the Deathclaw, in lore he gets a pristine power armor set, lazer gun and back up with high ground shooting at it.

The deathclaws are still a big deal in the plot, you were just prepared.

I'd take that over the Cazadors any day. "Lulz bugs kill u cuz it's funny so either run around or snipe" is the gamedesign variant of farting at your fiancee's dinner party because you think it's hilarious but then it turns into a wetfart and nobody finds it funny including you.

In fact if you ask a lot of people who played FO4 when was the first time they died. You'll largely get 3 answers

  1. The Deathclaw
  2. The Assembly Plant thing in the middle of the map
  3. when I jumped off a high thing
Maybe don't play on Normal if you find the game easy?

.I remember that episode of Gotham where they're looking for some guy and it turns out he went to hide in a giant adult nursery were large groups of guys pretend to be babies.

They find him, talk to him and leave. Then never mention it again.

It was very odd.

She's hundreds of thousands in debt which pretty much means I am too

She stays with me so I can look after her
yeah I had a similar problem, it's bullshit

"Oh you ensured your mother didn't die of starvation homeless in the streets, therefore you have her debt now" makes me wonder how many Ayn Rand types just left their parents to die in misery

broken system

For those who don't know, that anti vaxxer mob is angry because Boris Johnson told them the lie that this man defends child rapists

They believe it without question and there is no means to get Johnson to admit fault or be punished

However you will be kicked out of commons if you factually call Johnson a liar

That's right, you're allowed to lie that your opponent defends pedophiles and set hoards of Brexit voters on people, but you're not allowed to point out that isn't true

And this party has an 80 seat majority

Now watch as users defend this and get more angry at me for pointing it out than they are angry at Johnson

it drives me up the wall
