They are supposed to be an endgame enemy that if you encounter in the early game you will be slaughtered by. Killing one as a under leveled and under equipped person should take some serious meta gaming knowledge, luck and should drain most of your meager supplies.

You try to take one on with you leather armor and rusty shotgun you will be torn apart, But in FO4 you fight a death wimp within in the fist 40 minutes of the game, get gifted a suit of power armor and minigun to deal with it and there is zero tension.

How did your next encounter go?

yeah combat rebalancing mods are a must for fo4. that part in my recent save went something like running out of minigun ammo taking off 1/10th of its health, then it broke what was left of the junk on the frame (its not a complete set and very low dura, even vanilla i think)

Eh, they were still way dangerous after that (I don't like to use power armor, personally. Felt like a waste of time and resources).

But, I agree that particular battle/fight could have and should have been introduced way later. It was very out of place and it was a poor attempt at hyping up what their shiny new power armor can do (which kind of ignores canon to do so). The whole thing as epic as they tried to sell it in game with the atmosphere and npcs dying left and right was just jarring more than "omg, I get to be a bad ass." It left a ridiculously bad taste in my mouth.

Eh, I don't mind that

Unlike the other games your boy in Fallout 4 is supposed to be a hardened military combat veteran and right before you fight the Deathclaw, in lore he gets a pristine power armor set, lazer gun and back up with high ground shooting at it.

The deathclaws are still a big deal in the plot, you were just prepared.

I'd take that over the Cazadors any day. "Lulz bugs kill u cuz it's funny so either run around or snipe" is the gamedesign variant of farting at your fiancee's dinner party because you think it's hilarious but then it turns into a wetfart and nobody finds it funny including you.

In fact if you ask a lot of people who played FO4 when was the first time they died. You'll largely get 3 answers

1. The Deathclaw
2. The Assembly Plant thing in the middle of the map
3. when I jumped off a high thing

Maybe don't play on Normal if you find the game easy?

So how did your next encounter without any minigun ammo and the power armor out of batteries go?

Yeah the first one is not far off being scripted, good luck with the one in the witch trials museum.

In fallout 2 u can encounter lesser deathclaws in the caves early game.. They are super weak. I was killing them fully unarmed in about 3 to 5 hit usually. Sometimes insta kill with the better crit perk. Hit them in the eye a few times and they'll run away after around 2 hits which is annoying af since have to chase them . They also seem to move 4 squares at max so very easy to move on a square far enough so they cant hit you but you can hit them. I hardly lose health against them. Good xp too

Maybe the deathclaw at beginning of fo4 is one of them lesser deathclaw.

Oh ya i forgot to add that the caves usually had like 20+ lesser deathclaws. They are pure fodder.

lesser deathclaws are visibly babies, though. Deathclaw proper was a threat in Fallout/2 even if you had power armor and a minigun.

No some of them are regular sized too.

There are sm tough deathclaws that are really strong but look tiny. So idk if size matter much in fallout 2. A group of sm tough deathclaws does require endgame stuff to handle.

Oh neverminds. Turns out the fallout 2 cave lesser deathclaws are "immature deathclaws". Says it when examining their dead body. They do have the regular full grown deathclaw sprite tho

Yikes I forgot how much that one sucked when I first played it

Tbh even with power armour and a minigun, the first Deathclaw can ruin you if you drop down into the street and it manages to get close. On higher difficulties, cheesing it from the rooftop or shop doorway is mandatory.

In my most recent FO4 run I was dedicated to playing unarmed. Around Lvl. 40 with high strength, Iron Fist, and a good unarmed weapon you can win fistfights with glowing deathclaws pretty easily.

It like that for fallout 2 too

Mega powerfist+ better crits + slayer. Destroy the tough rated deathclaws. They usually start running after like two targetted eyeshots so best to cripple their legs first so they only move 4 squares instead of 8+.

Huh I remembered wrong. Maybe it was just some rats that rendered kinda green.
