I do think there's a definite level difference between Ant-Man and Shang-Chi, in that you can basically ask: Do you HAVE to read the comics to know them, or could you consume other Marvel media and see the character? Shang-Chi has always been the former, Ant-Man was the latter. You can argue about how important it is, but there's definitely a notable gap between them.

Ant-Man also benefits from the fact you could Google "Avengers" and have a very decent chance of seeing him.

If Diantha's acting hurts her experience, then I think Leon should be ahead of Cynthia, since Cynthia has her archeology thing, while Leon's sole focus is battling.

Eh, that's more arguable. Leon's still relatively new, all considered, and Cynthia's archeology thing is more of a side hobby, while Diantha's acting was her main career. Diantha was specifically known more for being an actress first and foremost.

EDIT: Maybe I'm underestimating how important the "archeologist" part was to Cynthia's character, to be fair, but it was always presented as something she did alongside being a trainer, whereas Diantha was presented as being a famous actress that then became a trainer.

The way they did experience is pretty weird, anyway. Diantha is the oldest of the four by quite a bit, but Cynthia still beats her in experience. I can buy beating Leon (maybe he's like 22 and she's like 28 or something, which gives her the edge even if they both started at 10), but Diantha should have them all beat.

I agree with others that bring up the point that Diantha isn't purely a Pokemon trainer, she's also a famous actress, so that may cut into her experience.

And I only see Mickey Mouse when there's a movie coming out... oh, wait. MM is just not that recognizable around the world anymore because he exists almost exclusively in merch and in Disney parks/tv stations. They haven't made a Mickey Mouse movie that wasn't direct to video in this millennium. The last couple of TV shows only broadcast on half a dozen stations worldwide and yes, you can get them on Disney+, but most people go to D+ for things they already know. An entire generation has grown up without a single MM movie, or even shorts before the movies or cameos. Let me repeat that, an entire generation has grown up with Mickey Mouse being a non-entity in their lives. The character just isn't that well known anymore, to the point where Disney World is actually removing the Mickey and Minnie signs at the entrance gates. Even Disney doesn't see the character as being the marketing machine it once was.

Their big merchandise line for 2022 is literally "Mickey Mouse: The Main Attraction."

EDIT: Also, they didn't remove the Mickey and Minnie sign because they're pushing them less, they removed it because there's going to be construction on an overpass. They removed other non-Mickey signs, too.

Every franchise double/triple-dips on revenue, but movie adaptations are where this is the least relevant. There's TONS of people who only go out and see the movie version of something and never spend another cent on it. DBZ has a weak movie presence, and its revenue is disproportionately weighted towards video games, which people are less likely to get without having already seen the original.

Well, right, this is what I was trying to get at. The general non-movie/video game/etc. merchandise sales for Batman, for instance, are much, much higher than Dragon Ball's. Dragon Ball makes up for it by crushing Batman in stuff like video games, which are likely to primarily be bought by people that are already into it. Being higher in the former (general merchandise) suggests wider reach than being higher in video games.

EDIT: Really, comparing Dragon Ball's general merchandise sales to most other things high on the list paints the picture, as it's considerably lower there than most of the higher IPs. Video game sales are what puts it above a lot of the things it's above.

Yeah, Dragon Ball may make more money than Batman or Superman, but surely you'd be crazy to try to argue Goku is more well known than either of them, so it's not a great indicator.

EDIT: Also important is that Batman, for instance, destroys Dragon Ball in pure general merchandise sales. Dragon Ball comes out on top due to having more video games and in general more avenues of revenue that are counted, but those are all avenues people are likely to double dip in, and thus don't indicate actual reach beyond the others.

Garfield is the most syndicated comic strip in the world.

I just think Goku's reach is way too small in most of the world to be considered much. You pretty much have to like the anime already to be interested in the video games or anything else. Most of these characters have more marketable designs or a broader history.

I don't see Goku beating anybody on the list at all. Anime is still, even now, much more niche in most parts of the world than any of the other mediums. Sure, Dragon Ball has appeared in many other things past the anime, but you're still not likely to have paid it any attention if you weren't already interested.

why did Wong invite Awkwafina through the portal at the end and talk as if she somehow was important? She should just be a rando to him... shes not magic

also it was just a little absurd for her to be a really good archer in a day but whatever

I think there's a bit of "She's important to him" and comic book/comic book movie logic dictates that's important for the main character. Wong's one of the more "all knowing" characters, so maybe he knows Shang doesn't come without her or something.

The second bit is weird, yeah. I think it's supposed to suggest there's a latent power hidden inside of her, but it doesn't go into it, so who knows.

Pretty much.

I stand by the idea that if it isn't required to beat the game, it's "optional" content.

Like, yeah, there's a stage locked behind getting all emblems. But if I remember correctly, that stage itself doesn't count for anything when it comes to unlocking further content, and is basically a half/"quater"-assed "reward" for 100%ing the game.
