You're equally making the assumption that the Rams don't still win off of a fourth down pass to Kupp. Hence why it's a silly argument overall since the Bengals still had time and opportunity after, regardless.

We're just never going to agree, because as far as I see it, Bengals should have been down 3, not up 4, in the first place.

I don't know how that addresses the problem. If the worst thing that happened to the Rams in the final 90 seconds is that they had to re-do a 1st down they never should have had in the first place from 4 yards closer with 4 more tries than they would have had otherwise (and they called a penalty on the Bengals on the same play no less), it's just impossible to think they in any way were actually hurt by the refs in those 90 seconds.

I didn't make that argument. I was responding to you saying the refs only called penalties on one side, which isn't the case. They started calling shit in general and the Bengals kept giving them shit to call.

Again, at the end of the day, I wouldn't be arguing this so much if that touchdown literally ended the game, but it didn't. The Bengals had time and opportunity, and they couldn't convert from 2nd and 1.

Cinci o-line screwed the Bengals, not the refs.

I should probably let this go since I don't see any sort of agreement being reached, but who is "they?" The Rams were absolutely getting away with it and were never called for it which is a lot easier to not care about until the last 90 seconds of the game when the refs only call the other team for it when it matters most.

The Rams literally had a touchdown nullified in that last 90 seconds, too, though. And then the Bengals followed it up with an even more blatant hold. Like, the Bengals literally saw penalties be called on two separate plays, on both teams, and still decided "Alright let's just do it again, but even moreso."

timing matters with these things but if you want to be the guy who's just "well maybe he shouldn't have been holding then" that's fine but again nobody likes that guy

I mean, I'm pretty okay with being that guy. They pushed their luck because they were getting away with it, so I don't feel bad like I would if it was an actual wrong call. They then followed it up by committing even more blatant penalties. And then followed it up by failing to get 1 yard on 3 plays.

So yes, I feel pretty okay with saying the refs did not cause the Bengals to lose.

Anybody acting like this is especially egregious is just kinda baffling to me.

Anyhoo, even ignoring my feelings on the missed OPI evening it out, I may have been mad if the Bengals didn't have a chance at the end, but they did. The refs didn't make them fail on three attempts to get one yard.

So then what you're technically saying is MZero is right, if MZero is "that guy" in your example.

The Rams sure bounced back when Higgins quite literally shoved(okay pulled by the facemask) Ramsey down and it directly resulted in points!

I'm not defending the officiating, I'm just saying it's like everyone forgets the history of awful calls/officiating in this league and are becoming prisoners of the moment to try and elevate this game up there.

like objectively speaking, if the bengals hold on and win by 4 then 100% the "story" is the missed OPI and bringing back the "should it be reviewable?" discussion which was itself born from a truly brutal playoff screwjob.

I guess we'll ultimately have to agree to disagree on how egregious the ending was, since I'm coming from a viewpoint where the Bengals weren't even leading without the refs' ineptitude in the first place, so I can't even be mad at the first questionable hold.

Sure, but then you don't answer it with another blatant hold. They got a touchdown earlier they didn't deserve in the slightest due to a missed call. The first call was bad, sure, but you bounce back. You don't immediately make sure you get another one.

Eh, Bengals shouldn't have given them things to call. That second hold was so blatant, for instance. I get they were getting away with things all game, but yeesh.

The first hold was a questionable call, but it basically just cancels out the missed call from earlier. The other flags were good.

How do you miss that

My first shiny was a Swablu in Sapphire.

I missed the animation and didn't know what Swablu looked like, so I assumed it was normal and killed it.

Well, like said, shitty ideas are shitty ideas. It's just a difference of opinion. I can see why some would think WWE actually sticking with Alexa/Fiend is worse. To me, AEW's "well ackshually" into a barely less shitty idea squeaks by it, since they honestly could have just sold it straight for like a week and then moved on and people would have forgotten on their own. Like, to me, having a shitty idea and trying 100% to make it work is bad, but having a shitty idea, selling it 100% while only actually putting like 10% actual effort into it, and then immediately changing course and going "We meant for it to be shitty tho honest" is worse.

Basically, I'll laugh at somebody who swings for the fences and strikes out, sure, but I respect it more than somebody who swings for the fences, hits the ball three feet, and then says "Well I actually was bunting."

I feel like I'd have to go non-exploding ring. For as shitty as Alexa/Fiend was, they atleast kept trying to make it work. I kinda hate how they tried to salvage the exploding ring by trying to spin it like it was intentional. Sometimes you have shitty ideas, but I respect atleast owning a shitty idea over trying to run from it in an equally shitty fashion.
