They... don't quite understand it just yet, and don't seem to have gotten past the initial impression of "people are using it to steal our products." It's sort of this. Basically, what it boils down to is that they are firmly convinced that their own brand name and IPs are more than enough to sell their products, so they don't see any value in using the Internet to advertise beyond their own marketing. Worse, because they can't really control how fans engage with their content, they see it as being worse than no marketing at all. So what they're essentially left with is something they see zero value in that also borders on infringement. Of course they're going to go gunning for it. They're not the only ones who see things that way - it's a very Japanese mentality in general. New Japan Pro Wrestling, for instance, has a draconian reputation for copyright striking pretty much anything even remotely related to their product (whereas larger companies like AEW and WWE actively court the Internet to fuel fan engagement). I'm not sure exactly where it is (it's packed away in storage in my house somewhere), but I definitely still have it. But mainly because the first few years of the 90s still kind of feel like the 80s (in the same way the first few years of the 80s still kind of look, feel, and sound like the 70s). But it's always going to be rooted in your personal experience. But that also opens the door to having the problems Solo had. Personally I kind of wish they'd just shove Star Wars into the Disney Vault and let it die for 15 years. Then when they drag it out again everyone will be excited for it again (and hopefully by then they'll have managed to find people who are actually capable of writing). And in the meantime they can go back and make another Tron movie like they were supposed to before they decided they didn't need other sci-fi franchises once they had Star Wars. If you eat a radically different diet for a year or so almost everything is going to taste different to you afterward. I know my mother had to cut sodium out of her diet for heart/blood pressure issues, and almost everything she eats tastes salty to her now. She's basically made herself incredibly oversensitive to it because she goes out of her way to avoid eating it. It's also something people will mention if they move to another country and eat the local cuisine for years while they're there. They may hate it at first but slowly learn to love it, while the foods from "back home" that they miss eventually will taste way worse to them if they ever eventually go back. In the US fast food and prepared food in general tends to be high in sodium. Donald and all his various spin-offs and supporting characters are generally seen as being way more important and interesting than Mickey in most places. Which might be why Mickey feels bland. He's mostly been relegated to being the mascot (which means they need to keep him pure) and being the star of most of the pre-K toddler-focused cartoons in the US. I've been considering doing a run through ME again but I haven't quite been in the mood for it yet. Nade_Duck posted... second playthrough so far and decided on biotic femshep. i usually pick soldier, so this is amusing as heck. You have never lived until you've played ME2/ME3 as a Vanguard. It's not really a thing in the first game, but Biotic Charge is ridiculously fun. It's pretty much become my default playstyle. Though I'll occasionally go for more off-the-wall builds like an Infiltrator sniper or playing through Andromeda as as technician with lots of turrets. Nade_Duck posted... think i prefer manshep just a little bit though, other than a couple voice lines Blasphemy. I think the only time I enjoyed playing maleShep at all was when I was playing a deliberately "neutral as possible" run where I was pretending that Shepard was a test tube clone (complete with bald head and expressionless eyes). His soulless monotone lends itself really well to that style. Of course, they had to go and ruin it by taking neutral dialogue options out of ME3 and giving him a personality, but it was kind of amusing in ME1 and ME2 to be a character who didn't quite seem to understand what human emotion was. Lokarin posted... Ok, Octopath has the most BS final boss ever Kind of sounds like a simplified version of the final boss level in Final Fantasy VI. Went off Ron and Fez after Fez's heart attack because it's when most of his mental illness issues really kicked in and he just got sad and kind of pathetic, and it dragged the rest of the show down. I mainly stopped listening to O&A around 2012 or so when I dropped XM/Sirius. Factory workers were getting their jobs replaced by robots decades ago, and everyone just told them to suck it up and go retrain their skills (as if that's a simple thing). Then computers started replacing customer service jobs and no one gave a shit about phone operators who lost jobs. Terminals and online sales are replacing cashiers and no one said "Hey, should we be concerned that you being able to completely avoid humans at all times might eventually start costing people jobs?" And even projecting forward a bit - how many of the people who've been gushing over the idea of driverless cars and automated ride-share networks even remotely give a shit about all of the bus drivers, taxi drivers, and others who would lose jobs in the process? If they bother thinking about them at all, they probably just give a dismissive "Ehh, tell them to get different jobs then." Now we've reached the point where the creative types are being threatened, and the people who thought they'd be safe forever ("You can't teach a computer to create art!") have suddenly been smashed in the face with the idea that they were wrong ("Holy shit, you CAN teach a computer to create art! MOMMY!"). So they're panicking and trying to doomsay and spin the idea that "This could totally go wrong in so many ways we should stop immediately!" and "Well, it's not really art because it doesn't touch the human soul! Please don't fire me." That's why the backlash is so strong now. Because the people with the most effective skills and platforms for spinning propaganda are finally the ones being threatened. The creative writers can come up with some really good horror stories about why this is such a terrible idea and how it crossed the unspoken line and how it's now inevitable that the robot overlords are going to take over if we let this happen. But it's all inherently self-serving, because it means we don't need them anymore. But the same thing is going to happen this time that happened when factories automated, and phones automated, and sales automated.
