I'm actually shocked that that team went so long

I mean I liked it in a weird way, and I can't honestly say it was an attempt at last place or anything like that (I would've ranked it 3/5 of the teams I made behind the unranked one and Tick) but yeah, unexpected!

I also thought the idea of Jubilee more or less being the second in command over a team of baby x-men was a secondary funny joke so yeah I didn't even really want to try to change up the babies. I also think Jubilee being Batman's Robin is potentially amusing. Yeah, just a lot of little things I liked in there. Probably the best possible use I can think of for Jubilee too (and I'm one of the weird people who kinda likes Jubilee)

But I'd never buy it either.

Back to back Swamp Thing teams amuses me for some reason

I like a part of the pitch you made for Gorgeous, which got me to thinking I'd probably like a team like that that was about mutants that were actually inconvenienced by their powers but in a way that was a bit more than "I'm ugly" that Gorgeous gives you.

Basically X-Men remix where the core members are Cyclops Rogue and Beast and most of the other ones are tossed for more mutants that aren't "hey I'm a human but better and you hate me why" but are maybe more photogenic because I don't want to read a comic with a bunch of eyesores if I can avoid it.

Course I realize the point of Gorgeous is partially to be ugly but I'm just building off what I like about the team idea.

I'm sure you can but then it becomes another mobile game (of which I'm at critical mass on) rather than a normal game so I'm avoiding doing it.

Also the mobile game looks pretty similar to those screenshots if you have the hardware for it. My phone's resolution is higher than those screenshots.

And honestly, I think most of the time Vince either loves or tells people to bury stupid things people say on commentary.

I don't think it's quite that simple. Corey definitely had problems with Booker explicitly and would jump on him for even fairly borderline stuff. Am I going to say he had problems with Coach? Not as clear but yeah. Even if Vince encourages it I would be surprised if he's commanding it each time.

I'm just saying passing the buck to Vince is a copout because we're not 100% sure he encourages it and even if he does there is clearly some amount of delight and self-motivation in doing it for these guys.

That quote is really blown out of proportion because Graves and Cole decided the best response was to freak out about it instead of trying to cover for it.

This imo makes Cole and Graves much more distracting than like 95% of the stupid stuff Coach (and like 90% of Booker's stupid stuff for that matter) says.

I guess it helps that I can at least understand the logic there.

Like if you can endure the pain for a while you can use the downtime in physical activity to gain your wind back a bit at the price of the pain. The old school bear hug psychology kinda played to this too where the guy would be in it for a while and then gain the energy to break out. Keep in mind I'm not saying it's good commentary-- as a commentator you should be selling the Bear Hug as the wind being squeezed out of them which makes recovering your wind more difficult even if that is the logic, but still.

I can't specifically think of a quote from Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, or Michael Cole that is comparably bad off the top of my head but I know they've existed in the moment. I just can't remember them because Alvarez didn't go on a 4 minute rant about them.

Well the interludes aren't very good from what I've seen.

They're kinda mixed to be sure (a lot of them basically read as "let's make an excuse to have a fight 3 times" but those are shorter too) but most of them are roughly on par with the game's writing imo.

Granted the writing has stepped up more recently so the earlier ones aren't going to be as good on average but yeah.

I was big on Coach when he first showed back up. Once he got in the swing of things though I think he was trying to make the on-screen product make sense a bit too much, which not actually paying attention to the product, so his commentary didn't really match up with storylines or even what was on the screen directly being commented on.

I think a Coach where the writing was good and held his interest could be okay but yeah probably for the best he was taken off screen.

Oh and uh the big thing to note is it's mostly its own thing. It's not a fanservice game like other FF gacha games. You may not get it from that screenshot since Tidus is yapping away but like Tidus only appears in that FFX event (or if you randomly roll the super rare Tidus character-- of which there are only 6 that's not really the core of the randomly rolled stuff in the game and if you use the character the Mobius MC is still the one in the cutscenes) so most of the game tries to stand on its own story and characters. It is fully voiced and has the FF feel though so when you get something from the mainline FF games it feels authentic. James Arnold Taylor still voices Tidus for instance.

Luckily as said said story and characters hold up decently well. And I'm the guy who thinks Final Fantasy Brave Exvius's story is utter garbage so I'm not the type to just accept anything on this front.

Basically you progress through a map with nodes that require "stamina" (recovers at 1 per 5 minutes). Each node has X amount of battles that you gauntlet through, often there's a boss at the end.

Fights are 1v1, though I believe you can make a party for "raid" fights (I think you can do these single player?). You create a deck that has 4 special attacks. You use these special attacks by spending orbs. You gain orbs by doing normal attacks, which gives you random orbs based on a distribution from your class (drawn from the random gacha though you can get like 5 to start) and combat conditions.

There's normal damage and break damage on attacks. If you deplete an enemy's break gauge you basically get a similar state to FFXIII's break on them (they can't attack and take extra damage for X turns). You get X attacks per turn based on your speed/statuses, then all the enemies that aren't currently broken attack you. And combat proceeds like that.

I honestly can't tell you the full potential of the system as I'm still unlocking things and I rerolled when I started until I got the ability to use Sephiroth who is a rare drop and kinda broken so I've been facerolling most things (there was a fun Tidus Blitzball event recently that wasn't facerolly and sold me on the combat system definitely having potential for not being braindead) but it's fun enough for now. Recently I got the ability to swap between decks mid combat which could add a lot of depth.

tl;dr I'd put the gameplay above average for the FF series if you're not put off by the gacha elements. That's kind of a big if for a lot of people I'd imagine though-- the gacha seems pretty damn stingy. Although with the rigged class drops to start I'm pretty sure you don't particularly need them to just play through the story.

It's from Mobius Final Fantasy. A mobile game. I've picked it up recently and have been playing it just as a normal Final Fantasy game (ie not grinding the drops and stuff just playing through the story as the gated stamina allows) cause it actually has fairly decent writing

Yeah we just had half off free quests a few months ago so it'll likely be a while before we see em again.

Man these interludes take a lot of real time. First time all week I've gone full bore on them and I've been emptying my stamina bar for over an hour now. I'll still take em over strengthening quests every time though the extra story for side servants is nice.

Mmm okay. So even if we have 5 Heenan types going in they may evolve into 5 much more different characters due to the varying ways in how they react to Richards causing them to introspect differently. We could have Crow Sting, Red Sting, Joker Sting, A Man Called Sting, and... uh... I'm running out of Stings.

You've definitely crossed over into selling me on the potential for the title there in any case.

Okay.

So my take on the characters themselves wasn't completely off base but because the story is mostly about Reed Richards you think that it works almost to an advantage in terms of the story being told as the focus isn't meant to be on the other characters, as in this story they basically only serve as various lenses to show just how far off the beaten path Hollywood Richards has truly gone.

That's fair. I didn't really absorb that being quite so priority from the initial write-up but I get the appeal to you a bit better now.
