32. Time Bomb

First card that would probably be on my list somewhere (this of all cards right)

I always loved this card as a kid, so much that I made a deck centered around Time Bomb as a win condition about 10 year ago. Like young masterplum I saw the power if it had 100 counters. Unlike young masterplum I tried to do it legitimately.

I had lots of proliferate as well as paradox haze to take extra upkeeps. There was more to it that really made it tick but I'm forgetting how the deck worked exactly since it wasn't one of my most used decks or anything and I haven't used it in over 5 years. Fun card though. Solid mid tier rep.

Seeing this list I had the thought I wanted to make one-- and so far and the answer to this for me is a resounding "true" as I think my favorite card listed here so far is Lava Axe. (Aside from Riding the Dilu Horse but that's not technically on the list)

No actual obnoxious cards though yet so that's good. Tag.

i think YOU'RE missing the point of the architect scene if you think it's nothing more than "here's a bunch of info i'm telling you for no reason ok bye."

See I always took it as he's gloating to Neo because humanity has no chance. This is a glorified excuse for giving the audience information. This is how I always thought it felt. Again, not at all like Loki in that regard which has a very obvious in story explanation that doesn't require any "analysis" to determine.

i don't see how it's a ridiculous comparison. ok, the "he who remains doesn't appear of the blue, unlike the architect" aspect is different, but they're both the exact same kind of "a character dumps a ton of exposition on the protagonist (actually the audience)" situations. again, this episode totally reminded me of the architect scene when i was watching it.

It's kinda an LMSlike comparison. Parts of it work but at the same time it's completely missing the point.

Like yes they are similar in the sense they drop a lot of exposition. The differences are key. The first as everyone has already explained, there is a very important distinction between the entire focus of the plot being "find who is behind all this" having a reveal like this vs a thing where he sorta just comes out of nowhere. He is indeed a lot more like Oz

But the second, the one that people aren't touching on as much, is that He Who Remains has an in-story reason to want to drop that exposition on them-- he has to convince them to go along with his plan. This makes the exposition feel a lot more natural-- almost like normal dialogue to people who aren't out to pick nits about the show. The Architect in contrast doesn't attempt to convince Neo of anything-- he just randomly drops a bunch of information on him in a bad WWE heel promo for the next Pay-Per-View.

But yeah the key here is that information delivered through character dialogue isn't always a bad thing. The nuance of why they're saying this, does it make sense to say this now, is it being delivered in a way that feels more like conversation than a monologue-- these things are all important and why comparing He Who Remains to the Architect is ridiculous and just really reaching.

kang is a pretty major character in the comics who's been around since the silver age. you don't have to be a "comic nerd" to know who he is. he's a lot bigger than, say, agatha harkness.

I mean I'm sure you all recognize the name but I'm not buying everyone here who is like "omg it got spoiled!!" had any real expectation of why Kang is a big deal other than "I know that guy!!"

Loki was great. I do somewhat agree with some (but not nearly all!) criticisms though.

I agree that this feels less like Avengers Loki and more like Ragnarok Loki. To the show's credit I think it did a passable attempt at justifying this by having Loki watch his greatest hits while being interrogated, but I actually think Avengers Loki lasting longer would have made the show better. Sylvie driving the "good" angle and Loki actually seeming like he actually might be plotting for most of the series would make a lot of stuff have a lot more bite I think.

Also Loki and Sylvie just weren't great as a ship. You could argue this is just Loki falling for her because he's a narcissist and it's all one sided and that's why it's not great but I'm not sure how much I believe it. I don't think the presentation quite lines up with that.

Now as for the criticisms I really don't agree with

There is a lot of talk in here about it being an ad and blah blah Kang and I just didn't get that at all? The last episode was great front to back and I loved the ending with the statue there-- so hyped for next season and where it goes. I will say I avoided teasers and such on this one like the plague because I wanted to be surprised but yeah? I mean are we all REALLY that much of comic nerds that it being Kang is even relevant here lol.

And despite me preferring to see a more dark Loki here I definitely don't agree that he's generic protag #882 or that Thor would have played things out identically. Don't really care to defend it here, but aside from the point that people not trusting him being fairly vital to how it unfolded, he just felt consistent with Ragnarok Loki throughout to me.

He has his mother's name sure, but he's literally the son of Kazuya Mishima. You can't really go let's pick someone not from this family and then mention Jin

Fair enough but I don't think the argument is very good if you're throwing Kazamas into "the family" because you're further diluting the pool of main character candidates

Though for what it's worth as a casual Tekken observer Jin seemed like a better choice than Kazuya for Devil geners. He had the Devil side character first and had that side mode in Tekken 4 or 5 IIRC where Kazuya didn't, right? Also always associated him as closer to the "main Tekken guy"

Well I feel like among SF fans Ken is more popular than Ryu too

Certainly not as clean-cut as Kazuya > Heihachi but yeah

Heihachi also just straight up looks more like "that dude from Tekken" to me. Kazuya's look isn't very classic.

And like the sad thing is Tekken probably deserves a rep too, no denying

But I mean I'm not sure it has a character that feels like a big deal. There are other major characters like Jin Kazama too, who aren't Mishimas, which further dilutes the argument of who the main character is

I wanna say Heihachi is a better pick, but he's not a LOT better or anything. My main point is not that Kazuya isn't the Ryu of Tekken as much as Tekken doesn't feel like it has a Ryu to begin with... but if you were trying to pick Ryu you accidentally picked Ken probably.

I don't think Steve is a character people really care about

I realize minecraft is big. I know several people who have played minecraft for over 10 years

Not one of them talks about Steve. You put a creeper assist trophy in and it'd probably appease them more

Terry Bogard on the other hand he's iconic to fighting game fans, but I mean on the whole? Not really. To be clear I wasn't disappointed in the least by Terry Bogard but I completely understand why people were.

Kazuya on the other hand, I'm not sure I even respect as sufficiently iconic to fighting game fans. Tekken is pretty ensemble. He's a significant character but it's not like he's the Ryu of Tekken or anything.

Doubt

I'm all for Phoenix Wright but let's be honest, he's not iconic in the slightest and that's kinda an example of what I mean. People are just going to insert their favorites as big or "iconic" or whatever and then be disappointed when they don't get in.

PW wasn't meant to be called iconic as much as a guy who would not be met with outrage if the dlc had not disappointed thus far

(And I actually am not entirely sure I'd call Ryu Hayabusa iconic either to be honest, much as I love him)

Yeah and the key isn't really who it is at this point

Like the last DLC will be hated on regardless of who it is because it's the last one and we've had so many picks that don't really appeal in an iconic kinda way

But if you didn't have a bunch of Byleths and Min Mins people would be happy to see Master Chief or Ryu Hayabusa or Dante or Sora or Phoenix Wright or Crash or whoever else because hey, these are all notable gaming names you don't assume will be in anyway and it's nice to see them in this rumble

I think more people would be happy with the DLC in general if the DLC was more stacked

Like Piranha Plant was probably the best received DLC aside from maybe Sephiroth because it was met with a clean palate

Just throw a bunch of iconic characters in and people won't be too upset by anything. When half your dlc roster is "why" though people have a lot less patience in general

loot drops being tuned around the expectation you were using the auction house

This is the main reason Diablo 3 was bad at launch yeah.

Not just tuned for Auction House, but also made incredibly boring. Rare items being the premiere loot just for having better stats and the more flavorful (and rare) legendaries being basically worthless.

Diablo 3 is an awesome game now (better than D2 imo) but I feel like the launch set the game so far back that a lot of the fanbase just didn't give it another chance. It wasn't just a matter of the auction house existing but the very mindset that created the auction house as a thing prevalent throughout the game that made the launch a disaster.
