She doesn't buff her own lane

She's basically conditional Mr Fantastic that shuts off for a lane if that lane has duplicate costs

But I think the game is quick to show that this was largely for show/reputation purposes, not because he's a sexual deviant. He also does get his comeuppance for all this, since he loses his airship and is found basically drinking himself to death in Kohlingen in the World of Ruin.

Correct interpretation of the character not at odds with anything from the game

My issue with Cecil is usually that he has the potential to be really interesting: guy working for the villain who realizes he's a villain himself and tries to change. Except the game basically handles this by flipping a switch and turning Cecil into the most generic good guy protagonist imaginable.

Yes.

FFIV is filled with interesting ideas but none of the filling is put into any of them and we get generic bad execution on 90% of it.

But I still don't think Cecil is boring just disappointing

I love that you can sequence break FF2 HARD with him (sorta-- the plot progression is gated but you can go anywhere)-- my best memory of FF2 is reaching the final town of the game with Minwu's help. He's also got an awesome design-- love that he's a white mage without being a girl too break those stereotypes

Hojo - 2.5
Aggressively uninteresting facet of the FF7 story and not for lack of trying.

Fusoya - 5.5

Saga Frontier has a lot of cool tracks and thats the main draw to it other than there being some appeal to being super open ended (wish it had more optional bosses to play off that open endedness). T260G Last Battle is my favorite though. Worthy winner.

What do you think he was going to do with Maria after kidnapping her and forcing her to marry him

Probably let her go after kidnapping her if she's not into it. Honestly. No joke.

He clearly wasn't in it for Maria herself-- he's just a thrill seeker who is doing random stuff for excitement because he feels empty after Daryl. People who think he's a rapist are either not understanding the character as written with everything we are given from introduction through his Daryl arc or want to be outraged over stuff.

There's nothing lecherous about the character in his actions or dialogue beyond that-- it's just not a consistent way to take the character.

Setzer - 8.5
I think a lot of why I like him is his gambler class. I mean he's just cool you know. Spamming slot is super fun too. Nice carefree attitude and all that-- like super carefree to the point where it's like "why are you doing this-- why are you doing anything?" but like the Daryl subplot explains it well he's just broken so I like it. Don't listen to haters who say hes a rapist or whatever that's so dumb.

Seymour - 9.5
Total creep lord of a villain, with some badass moments like shrugging off Kimahri's lance. Just amazing boss fights. Easy 10 if he's the final boss (as he should have been) but a character like him needed the spotlight a bit more for me to put him on that top tier.

Wiegraf - 6
It's Wiegraf. I before e. Anyway yeah he's good enough but a little too srs bizniz and I really think for his role in the story to be fullh effective he needed a bit more focus before the Velius stuff.

Sara - 4
She crutches on FF1 Sara and I don't like that. She's probably a better character she's like spunky but she's not relevant long and that crutching man it just rubs me the wrong way and she can never recover.

Yeah

This is basically why I don't think Pennywise is very high tier here

I agree with this completely. He's evil but I don't see him ever needing nor wanting to escalate beyond traumatizing and then eating a handful of children every 27 years. Which is like, yeah, it sucks but I think something willing to keep things on the down low like that isn't competing with the higher tier entrants here.

He's a fun guy. It's a shame his big moment was already done by Tellah (sorta-- Galuf's is better but) -- it kinda hurts his memorability for me.

Snow - 7
Serahhhh!!! I do like him-- I'm unsure how much of my liking him is ironic appreciation for him saying SERAHHH!!! and how much is him kinda reminding of Dante's VA and how much is legit liking the character but I like him.

Leila - 6.5
Not a lot to her character that I remember but I like the sexy pirate captain design. She is totally sexy look at that battle sprite-- other 8 and 16 bit battle sprites wish they were that sexy.

Refia - 7.5
In my headcanon she's the main character of FF3. I used her as a Red Mage the whole game which probably made me like her more than I normally would. I do appreciate that she's not a powder puff, love interest, or super bubbly/glum. She fits into a place not many FF girls do by just hanging out and being positive about stuff, and that's cool with me.

Like you think I'm exaggerating but if you run Thor (+hammer), Wasp, Yellowjacket, and Jane and play them all it's +10 by itself. That makes him 3/13. You can 3/15 him with a tempo turn 6 drop at that point, and if Magick or multiple turn 6s drop its easy to crack 17.

3/4 +1 seems to be much more reasonable. In a standard Thor Jane deck he'd only be hitting 3/9 with no effort (Dazzler would love 3/9) and in a less focused deck he'd be doing 3/6 or 3/7 which is honestly fine.

Pennywise slept for millions of years. I'm not sure it actually needs to eat. So this would be more like human children consuming live baby chicks who were capable of feelings and lived in chicken cities as the adult chickens were forced by the kids into not caring about the chicks going missing, then piling up their carcasses. And if children could sleep for many many years hibernating without eating, but doing it anyway.

To be clear I agree with this analogy I just don't think it's more evil than Frieza to dip a few live baby chicks into barbecue sauce once every 27 years

The problem is decks devoted to making him big can get him into the 17-19 range without a ton of work.

It's just too easy to spam a bunch of on reveals. It gets to the point where he's basically Bishop with a +2

3/4 +1 is probably better.

Eh.

Honestly it's about half now and was better before that. Alioth, Loki, Werewolf, Elsa are the ones it applies to recently.

Werewolf and Elsa to me are the main ones where I feel like "this should have been obvious" though and start to doubt they aren't exploiting a bit.

Looking at the upcoming cards I don't think any upcoming seem broken though so I am almost willing to believe that they're just stupid with reusable buffs.

Ultimately while Pennywise is plenty evil I just think Pennywise is really limited in what it can do conceptually. It is dormant 26/27 years and feeds on a more personal fear so at some point you would imagine it would become sated or it wouldn't serve a point to try and terrify more (Pennywise has a pretty small body count all things considered and I don't think that's storytelling as much as how it works)

Frieza ticks all the boxes for evil and has a crazy resume of destruction to back it up.
