Not really, because the gulf between expectations/pre-launch hype/etc. would vary greatly between games.

Big Rigs is an unplayable wreck but no one had any expectations for it so it's not like the launch let anyone down. Cyberpunk was one of the most hyped games of the generation and was a colossal trainwreck (on console at least) even though objectively it was in a better state than Big Rigs.

Yeah, I thought Diablo III had the same "no one can play it" issues Sim City did at launch. Sim City just got bigger shit because there was literally no reason for it in that case.

Weird, I remember playing it just fine.

Now SimCity, I think they made special exception because I think I ended returned that on Origin? Or just got my money back, at least.

I had zero trouble with Diablo 3 at launch, and I was not aware of anyone else having trouble, either.

The other issues with D3 were the Auction house itself, loot drops being tuned around the expectation you were using the auction house, and the always online requirement for single player.

The Diablo 3 thing was mainly just the first day. It had some issues after that, but the servers were mostly fine.

Diablo 3 auction house was one of the scummiest anti-player practices I've ever seen.

The new Hitman series is the closest example I can think of to that where people don't complain that much, but you can still technically play the main campaign offline. You just lose every feature imaginable when you do.

I'm suprised Eve Online-Trinity isn't on here, which casually deleted the boot.ini from a person's computer.

There are people who liked the launch version of No Man's Sky, and even people who think the changes made the game worse. I don't think it's necessary to hound people for their opinions.

For all I know in general about most well known video games even if I don't play them, I still somehow know nothing about No Man's Sky and hearing people talk about it just makes it sound more and more nebulous.

Yes, the TORtanic was abysmal.

Imagine if Bioware hadn't wasted so much time and resources on TOR and instead kept making awesome wrpgs instead. The dream.

This is the main reason Diablo 3 was bad at launch yeah.

Not just tuned for Auction House, but also made incredibly boring. Rare items being the premiere loot just for having better stats and the more flavorful (and rare) legendaries being basically worthless.

Diablo 3 is an awesome game now (better than D2 imo) but I feel like the launch set the game so far back that a lot of the fanbase just didn't give it another chance. It wasn't just a matter of the auction house existing but the very mindset that created the auction house as a thing prevalent throughout the game that made the launch a disaster.
