How would you rate Trials & Tribulations as an ending for the Phoenix Wright trilogy?

FAIR WARNING - I promise there will be zero spoilers in the opening posts of this topic series, however everything after that could be Spoiler City. After all, we're exclusively discussing the final moments of some of the most beloved and long running series in the history of popular media... so proceed with caution!

Welcome to Best Ending Ever, the topic series where Board 8 will decide the best (and worst) endings in the history of film, television, literature, and video games. Each week we'll cover a well-regarded or controversial new entry.

For this 5th week our question is How satisfied were you with the way Ace Attorney 3 - Trials & Tribulations ended the original Phoenix Wright trilogy?
---

Last Week's Result
* Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker earned an average of 1.71
Over 45% of Board 8 punished Episode Nine with a dreaded "1"; that wasn't quite as bad as we blasted Game of Thrones, but GoT received more 4s and 3s to balance things out. In the final tally, The Skywalker Saga was narrowly able to avoid being named the new Worst Ending Ever. We thought EP9 had some good moments but was underwhelming overall, and that each film from the new trilogy felt like it came from its own series and they never added up to something amazing like the original trilogy did.

BEE All Time Rankings
* 3.32 w/ 117 votes - Breaking Bad
* 3.31 w/ 102 votes - Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame
* 1.71 w/ 111 votes - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
* 1.65 w/ 121 votes - Game of Thrones

Honestly, as an ending, it's flawless as far as I can think of it. Plenty of callbacks to the other games, a meaningful, major connection to the first game with Godot/Mia and Misty, all major characters (except Lotta haha) show up plus, for the first time, PLAYABLE EDGEWORTH. It did everything it needed to and more, successfully

Pretty excellent. Perfect conclusion to the Fey arc while giving pretty much everyone something to do, packed full of references to the other games but not in an annoying 'remember this?' kind of way normally, and some cool twists on the existing formula to keep things fresh. 3-5 is of course great but 3-1 and 3-4 lay the necessary groundwork to make it all feel like a true finale in the end- Godot and Dahlia were both great new characters that fit in the world seamlessly, and making Mia playable was such a great decision that gave her some much needed characterisation. Ignoring what comes afterwards Nick really gets a decent conclusion to his story here too, 4/4 for sure.

going with 3, i guess

making the "trilogy" about the feys is a retcon in a lot of ways, and i don't like a lot of parts about the second part of the final case - i thought the final case of AA6 hit similar (but better!) beats with an inferior cast

that said, AA3 was excellent overall

The last case is a lot of fun but doesn't really make the most sense. And while the defeat of Dahlia is pretty perfect, I wasn't a fan of the confrontation of Godot at the end... it was a confrontation purely about ego and I'm not a fan of those (there are no actual stakes because Godot logically wouldn't let Maya be found guilty).

Still give it a 3 because playable Edgeworth is so good it spawned a whole sub-series.

I mean, Mia's plotline involves some retcons (though I don't think they actually bother anyone), but spirit channeling was a huge part of the series from the start. If you want to say a retcon was introduced, that started with 2-2 and Morgan Fey, not T&T.

I think part of it is that Godot wanted to get caught, and he wanted Phoenix to be the one to do it (even if he'd never admit it). Would he have confessed afterwards to get Maya or Iris off the hook? Never really thought about it, but maybe.

I do get that the whole confrontation comes off as strange because it just feels like it's over when you own Dahlia, but that's partly because the nature of the series requires you to catch the killer. It still produced some amazing moments though, like the Super Objection.

2-2 was standalone even when it came out though

but making the villains of 3-5 a dead person and a villain we've already defeated wasn't very satisfying for me, with the killer being someone mostly sympathetic anyway. i've come to accept it for what it is, but it's just not as satisfying as 1-4, 2-4, or 6-5.

4-4 suffered from a similar problem as 3-5 with the "yeah i already beat this dude" feeling

AA1 was such a perfect standalone game that AA2 actually had me disappointed they chose to go for the overarching plot angle.

And then that ending to AA3 basically made it all worth it.

ACTUALLY... I happened to give the eshop a glance just now and hot dog, not only is the original trilogy available on the Switch, it's actually on a deep discount for a couple more days! So I decided to move that timeline ahead a bit.

Good news @CaptainOfCrush , I'm going in!
