GP here. Diet and Zero sodas simply use artificial sweetners, which have come a long way over the years. You'll hear some people say nonsense like "it's just as bad/worse than regular soda!", and others that will say "it's like drinking water!". Of course, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Popular artificial sweetners like Sucralose and Aspartame have been shown to at least correlate with metabolic syndrome/obesity/insulin resistance (and thus eventually diabetes). This is pretty much undeniable. However, they are still much, much better for your metabolism than regular sugar, and they indeed are not metabolized as carbohydrates and don't contain any calories.

There's also the "cancer" argument, which did apply to older sweetners in outrageous quantities (some of which were unrealistic/literally impossible to consume). As of right now, there's no evidence that shows artificial sweetners currently in use, consumed in moderation, cause or correlate with cancer. This may change in the future as more studies become available. Also a lot of the evidence against sugar replacement was funded by, you guessed it, sugar lobby.

In short:
They're still bad for you.
They're much better than sugar for you.
They mostly don't have any calories and are not digestible carbohydrates.
They probably don't cause cancer if used in moderation.

Fun fact: I've sustained high ketone levels while consuming coke zero freely.

I read so many government published studies on nih.gov and all studies show both ends of the spectrum, with some saying it's linked to health issues, and others saying it's linked to health issues because the type of people that drown in diet drinks are the ones who continue to make poor choices anyway... Truth is definitely in the middle for sure- in moderation, along with eating healthily, it's fine.

$300 was the price for RT flight with "big front seat", 1x carry on, and expedited security/boarding. So seems like this is all inclusive. Basic economy for the same route is $330ish, and that has 1x carry on, but no seat selection and probably last to board.

How did you come to this conclusion? Because paxlovid came off of government subsidies literally yesterday (i.e., after last quarter).

Yea so this experience is so weird. Google says anything above 102/103, go to ER. At 5am this morning, I called my doctors office (who has an on-call doctor for after hours emergency), and he told me to call my PCP when they open at 8am and schedule a same day appointment; dont bother with the ER or urgent care.

I called my PCP around 9am when I woke up, and the nurse that answered went through a questionnaire, and the computer is telling her to tell me to go to the ER. I said what the on-call doctor told me, and the nurse said shell send a message to my PCP.

My PCP called me about 30 minutes later and was like so I heard you dont want to go to the ER not urgent care. Sis, come on. Thats not what I said at all. Ultimately, she told me to go to the urgent care, and now Im here, waiting for a bunch of test results.

I wonder if Ill get something out of this, or if this will just be a take some more tynenol and go sleep it off bullshit, after like a $500 fee

I got into the exam room- sounds like you got covid. Im going to take the swab and do the test now, also going to do other flus and see what else is going on.

They swabbed me. It wasnt so bad; thought it was the one where they poke to the back of your head, but it was just in your nostrils.

Guess Im not going to make it to my 1pm car appointment. Bah.

At this point, no reason to treat it differently to any other illness, especially given that most people are vaccinated and the vast majority of those who are not have had plenty of opportunity to change that. If you wouldn't go out with flu, don't go out with covid. If you would, go for it.

That's what's different between 2020 and now. We no longer need to be minimizing number of cases as aggressively as possible.

Im in this boat; just treating COVID like any other illness. Going to try to stay inside, but if I have to go (like car inspection), going to mask up and just stay away from people in the waiting room // wait outside.

If she still refuses to budge after being direct then you have something to complain about. Seriously, communicate. It's possible she doesn't know the full expectations and just mulling about complaining to internet strangers for days is not going to accomplish ANYTHING. At least a talk is a step towards something, even if it's a strained relationship due to her selfishness, or ideally, she understands she's been out of line and will work with you. If you want her out of the room, tell her. Sheesh, you have a kid now TC, you best learn to communicate like an adult.

I have suggested things to her, like hey maybe you should take Jane (fake name) out on the boardwalk after lunch before we drop her off at daycare, and shed say sure!, but never follow through.

Next time, spend an extra grand and get Mom a low-level room of her own, or don't invite her and spend the cruise the way you've spent cruises in the past. Get your jollies while the kid is in daycare.

This is our first ever cruise, but yes- never inviting my mom.

I didnt think itd be this bad. I was expecting her to not take care of our child, which is why were doing daycare and only relegating her to each her in the evenings while shes sleeping for half the cruise (4 nights, and other 4 = whatever she wants to do in the evening).

I also expected during day time, shed be out and with our child in daycare, we have some privacy in our suite.

But literally nope for both cant believe I cant trust my mom with watching my child while my child sleeps. Like come on

Sorry your mom wasn't there for you as a kid that was wrong.. However in this case you should have expressly stated that you wanted her there for child car and work something out first. From her POV you invited her to this trip. Then you are throwing the child on her.

Nah, I was pretty clear I wanted her to take care of the child on occasion. I did not expect her to just stay in the suite most of the time though, so we have no privacy at all.

Yeah I had the steak and Yukon gold mashed potatoes. Oh and a wedge salad that might have been the best I've ever had.

If you go there for lunch they have burgers. Other than Chops, the regular Windjammer food was pretty good for what it was. It was my first Royal Caribbean cruise.

This is our first cruise, period! Were eating at Coastal Kitchen mostly, and that place is pretty good.
