[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

It does have more butyric acid, but not an amount anyone is going to notice, unless they're specifically looking for it.

Isn't it weird that Hershey was selling chocolate for decades and no one ever noticed until they started making inroads to the European markets? People imported chocolate before that, people also traveled between Europe and America, and yet no one detected this apparently unmistakable vomit flavour... Until European confectioners started braying it from the mountaintops.

The whole 'tastes like vomit thing' is a lie created by European chocolatiers afraid cheap American chocolates were going to invade their markets.

It's the same trick wine sellers use when tell you their wine tastes of honey, or hickory, or kombucha, or anything that's not bloody grapes. If you go in looking for a flavour, your mind will find the nearest approximation and ascribe it to that.

So the Trash Theory youtube channel released a more indepth follow up to their How Nu Metal Became Nu Metal video.

It's a bit long, but the music clips keep it moving. He brought up some things I didn't know about, like Public Enemy sampling Slayer, and some things I forgot about, like the Judgement Night soundtrack, which was pure genre busting fire at the time.

It might be helpful to watch the earlier video first, at the least it's much shorter.

By the same token you've gone over my point. You said people can use a word that in itself is not pejorative, but a malicious actor can use said word to be pejorative. That literally applies to literally any sentence and any word you can think of. Literally. Including the 2 examples you gave. Both example sentences you gave can contextually be used maliciously, including the one you implied/think was nicer.

The point being, context is one of the key foundations of speech. Yet, some most definitely take it upon themselves to do everything in their power to ignore context to warp someones words/sentence to be malicious when contextually it was not.

It's not beneficial to go out of ones way to find a way to be offended or look for reasons for others to be offended while throwing context to the wind so we can look for new ways to be offended.

Because again, no one in this topic is suggesting to walk up to an individual and randomly call them fat or randomly tell them they're fat.

So to answer your question in lesser words, context matters. Neither examples you gave are inherently malicious or more beneficial to choose. Both can contextually be used maliciously.
I think your premise here is flawed.

This isn't mainly in regards to walking randomly up to people and calling them fat, but about being mindful of the casual language used in everyday life. It doesn't work so simply as, "I said this with no intent to cause offense, therefore it does not cause offense, unless the other person deliberately misconstrues my words." The world would be a very different place if that was how it worked.

Neither is inherently malicious, but some people, for reasons ranging from depression, negative self esteem/self image, previous experience, other causes, will read a negative connotation into one, and less so the other.

This is not because they are 'looking to be offended', but simply because that's how their brains work; if something can be seen in a negative light, it will be. That is the context I'm operating in.

More over, this specific topic regards people who are more likely to have body issues. It would seem meet to exercise more care.

The proposed adjustment isn't about not making delicate little flowers not feel bad, or that excess weight isn't a problem, but in altering the lens through which people perceive the world. In much the way poor people using opiates purchased illegally off the street is called a 'crime wave', but rich people using opiates purchased illegally from a pill mill is a 'health crisis'.

Even if you don't see it that way, there are a lot of people who regard one as a moral failing and the other as an unfortunate circumstance.

Cjsdowg wants to move weight problems from the moral failing category to more of the unfortunate circumstance side by de-emphasizing the adjective form and embracing the noun form. By looking past the current state to what circumstances may have brought them to that state, and what might be keeping them there.

And I can't find a way to see that as a bad thing.

You can definitely control what you hear in a sense of twisting someone's words to be something that it isn't. Essentially those ignoring context to act like someone was attacked.

The examples you gave are great examples to that. Taking something as a personal attack =/= it actually was. As there are definitely those who make it their mission to ignore context be a victim no matter what, or find victims no matter what to deflect. Context be damned.

Speaking of context, it needs to be clarified again that no one is advocating of just walking up to people and calling them fat for no reason.
You've kind of gone around my point there.

What is the benefit in saying, "You are fat and unhealthy.", over "You have an excess of fat, and that's unhealthy."?

im not advocating any discrimination of any kind, however saying someone is fat when they are fat is an observation
But you do understand that people also use it in the pejorative? And that even if you mean it as a neutral observation that some people are still going to hear it as a pejorative?

You can only control what you say, not what they hear.

So what is the precise benefit in saying, "You are fat and unhealthy.", over "You have a lot of fat, and that's unhealthy.", when you know there is the possibility the listener may take the first statement as a personal belittlement, and it is more difficult to perceive the second statement the same way?

So I can't remember if it was a movie or an interview or what, but I heard a story.

A guy is talking about when he was in drug rehab. Another guy comes to him and asks, "So what's your problem?" First guy says, "Well, I'm a drug addict." Other guy goes, "No, that's how you tried to medicate your problem. So what's your problem?"

The guy then says reframing addiction from being something he was to an escape from his real problems helped him kick drugs for good.

Reframing fat from something you are to a problem you have can potentially help a lot of people. Maybe you're not among those people. Fine. But what good is it to try and stop people from going down that route?

But if Trump is far worse, then who fucking cares?! Are voters literally that insane that they will flush their own lives down the shitter to own some politicians?

The GOP is holding a gun to our temples and promising to pull the trigger the day they win, and we're considering if it's worth voting? Because the Democrats haven't earned our votes? Who gives a fuck what the Democrats have earned?

Why not do what's better for you because you don't deserve the worst?

And no one will ever give me an answer besides "Well Biden should think about that and start appealing to us" or "Being a doomsayer isn't a great way to motivate people to vote for Biden." I don't give a shit about Biden! I'm not asking about Biden!

It's like these voters can't decide if politics is super important or some irrelevant pissing contest every few years, so they waffle between.
That's your stance.

It's not irrational, and indeed, not far from my own.

It is not everyone's stance. Different people have different priorities.

And in regards to this specific topic, there is, I would say, no benefit to not applying pressure to Biden and the democrats. If you want the democrats to do better, and who doesn't want that, then you have to tell them what you want. If they are slow to respond, you have to apply pressure. What does shutting up and voting for the same old thing get you? Nothing.

Appealing to consequences is not going to get everyone on board. Indeed, everyone it would get on board is already going to be on board. So you're either preaching to the choir, or haranguing people who have already demonstrated that that tact won't work on them.

So it would seem meet to pivot to a different argument, just from a pragmatist view.

So, if Biden did change stances on Israel, and then ended up losing the election as a result of that (since there IS still a lot of Israel support here, what with things like AIPAC) and Trump ends up making things worse over there, whose fault will it have been?

Wouldn't that be a weird sort of catch-22 situation where Biden trying to do the right thing only made things worse?
That could be, though I think even the most ardent Israel supporters are beginning to see this as excessive, between Iran and the West Bank.

It is not the voters job to support any candidate no matter what, it's the candidates job to appeal and make voters want to have them in office.

Hillary felt entitled to votes, how'd that work out for her?

It's appalling that people latch on the the bizarro concept of "Ignore our candidate's flaws" rather than "Make our candidate better". You're applying pressure to the wrong end of the equation.

If Biden fails to bring the edge cases into his camp and loses the election, who will be to blame for that?
