The only way Republicans can win now is by cheating like mad, like open brazen cheating and bragging about it knowing the laws will ultimately side with them because we all know if a case like this makes it to this supreme court they'll twist the law into a knot justifying it for Biden but not justifying it for Trump

Idk the law seems pretty clear cut about it seems like something the Dems should have accounted for. On the other hand it's a weirdly arbitrary law and there's nothing stopping them from making an exception in this case given the dates are off by like 4 days.

Why are we blaming this on Alabama and the GOP again?

It has literally been a law since before any of us here were born. The deadline has been the same for 5 fucking decades. It isn't like this was sprung on the Dems last second. Shit, they still have plenty of time to change their planned date for the convention. If for some stupid reason Biden doesn't end up on the ballot in Alabama, that is entirely on them, not the state.

It makes good clickbait to use against Republicans I guess.

I would be very curious to see if there has been any instances of this not being followed and a candidate still being on the ballot and they just NOW seemingly found out about this one simple trick.

Dems had their convention on the 17th in 2020, Biden had no issues getting on the ballot then.

Looking further back it seems that in the last 30 odd years about half the time one or more parties had their convention after the "cut off date".

The only law source for this date I can find specifically mentions that as the 2024 date. This lead me to look for the deadline in 2020 which turned out to be... even earlier. (13 Aug, source: https://www.sos.alabama.gov/sites/default/files/election-2020/Admin%20Calendar-20190627.pdf page 6)

If Trump can't be taken off the ballot even after 2 CO courts found him to be an insurrectionist then this sure as fuck shouldn't be able to fly.

If this goes to the USSC and they somehow uphold, so help me...

They're desperate so they're combing through everything with a fine tooth comb to find every little thing they can.

The fact they gave this much forewarning is unexpected though, but part of the plan if the DNC doesn't submit early enough and decides to challenge in courts.
