I'm guessing "overhaul" in this case means "increase the price"

AT&T has been the proud owner of HBO for less than a month, and it is already considering an overhaul that would see HBO produce more video that can compete for the attention of smartphone users. AT&T wants to boost revenue both in advertising and subscriptions, even if that means upending HBO's longtime strategy of producing a relatively small number of high-quality shows.

yeah, my take away from what he said is that he would prefer they make more content targeted at mobile users primarily, rather than the typical long form dramas and comedies they usually produce

Doing this huge cinematic fight right off the bat doesn't feel like an achievement. No progression, no risk/reward, kinda shows that they couldn't think of anything else and wanted to blast you with end game content.

it's weird, what I liked about it is what you all seemed to hate about it

this isn't a new thing, either. RPGs have done this a handful of times -- I think both of the Lufia games start with you basically having end game equipment in an end game setting and then sending you back to the beginning in terms of progression

I like it because it gives you a taste of what you're going to get early on.

also, fwiw, the leftist parties almost certainly got more voted overall than the conservative parties, but you know, first past the post systems inherently favor rural areas

Can you explain that more? I dont have much knowledge on how the system works in the UK.

it's not that different from how the congressional systems work here; there are districts (called constituencies) which elect MPs essentially the same way we do members of congress, where the top vote-getter wins, even if they fail to get a majority of the votes from that constituency

the reason this favors rural areas over urban ones is explained partially here: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/23/opinion/campaign-stops/go-midwest-young-hipster.html?_r=0

That imbalance can be explained partly by Republican gerrymandering. But even if district lines were drawn in rational, nonpartisan ways, a disproportionate share of Democratic votes would still be clustered in urban districts, giving Republicans a larger share of seats than their share of the overall vote. Winning back control of state legislatures in Pennsylvania and Michigan could help Democrats in redistricting after 2020. But it would help more if their voters were not so concentrated in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Detroit and Ann Arbor.

It would be awfully difficult to construct a map that wasnt leaning Republican, said the University of Michigan political scientist Jowei Chen. Geography is just very unfortunate from the perspective of the Democrats.

basically, rural districts have a significant but smaller GOP lean while urban districts have very large margins for Democrats -- but with respect to winning the most seats, you want to get a higher number of smaller wins than a smaller number of larger wins

I like the settlement building aspects of FO4, what I don't dig is the multiplayer element involved.

To me, building up your towns going from little outposts to titanic fortresses is very in-theme with the Mad Max style (not necessarily the action sequences, but someone built Thunderdome and the end of the movie shows FO4 style settlement building)

That's not to say you can't overdo it, though. FO4 did need more meaningful cities to interact with, and fewer settlements with no story implications.

But yeah the PVP etc really turns me off

Sure, but I feel like "we should make it so people hit by cars don't die as often" is best solved by making fewer people hit pedestrians and not by redesigning cars. This would be like dealing with too many people burning their tongues on hot coffee by pushing Keurig to reduce the temperate of their k-cup brews. It feels like a roundabout solution.

The way that you reduce the number of pedestrians being hit requires redesigning streets and laws regulating the streets

Is that really easier than changing how we design cars?

heres how it works when you graduate:

a small portion of the students are hyper-motivated and naturally predisposed to working professionally. they probably had like 3 internships, are presidents of a club, etc. these guys get the six figure entry level salaries with Google, Apple, MS, etc

the rest of you have to work hard to bridge that gap. that means pursuing certifications, self-teaching new skills, networking with everyone you know, practicing interview skills, getting out of your comfort zone and going to industry meetup type events, having people critique your resume, etc.you may also have to consider doing contract work, taking a "lesser" job that will get you to the type of job you want in the future, contacting recruiters, etc.

basically you have to hustle, that's the nature of working for most people in 2018

The bold seems about right. I know people who got 6 figure jobs and people with great internships who have told me they can't believe how easy it is to be successful and I'm just like...

lol

I think you have to be a special type of go-getter person to actually make 100k at your first job.

so did the people who you know who got these jobs have relevant experience (an internship, for instance) but you don't have that experience?

that's more than them just being in the right place at the right time, if so
