The only think I'm totally blanking on is Horoscope. No idea how this ability works.

It's a delayed AOE heal. The buff gets upgraded if you cast either Helios spell, then heals everyone when it falls off or you hit Horoscope again.

So basically you can just use it as an extra burst heal by using Horoscope, casting Aspected Helios, and then popping Horoscope. Pretty simple, just a nonsense tooltip.

Finally cleared out the event rewards. These charm dungeons are neat and it's a bit of a shame that this is a limited-event only thing. Seems like they'd be nice to have around to do once or twice a month for rewards. They did allude to doing more with it so hopefully that means making it semi-permanent and not just rerunning the event once a year...

Tartaglia has also cemented himself as my favorite character so far with the event. His whole kinda "relaxed edgy frenemy" vibe is just really amusing to me. Glad I pulled for him!

And also on the subject of events and Childe, turns out this fish webgame is time-gated since you have to wait HOURS for him to catch fish, and the whole thing only lasts a week so don't put it off.

I think the idea is that the pass will eventually include more new stuff than just Animal Crossing DLC, like Game Pass, but I honestly don't know. It's a pretty shitty Game Pass, and this whole rollout has been weird. But while I don't see them putting big new games like BotW2 in it, I could see them including a BotW2 expansion pass.

Unless of course this whole thing flops terribly because it was rushed out and everyone hates it, which I'm fine with happening

Tbh all of the review aggregators are fairly bad about this. Reviews are at their most helpful when you can read and understand an honest reviewer's thoughts. Even for reviews you hate, it's helpful to understand what I like and dislike. The aggregators just obscure all that, and also result in a bunch of pointless nothing reviews being published that are more about getting the website on to the aggregator than an actual reviewer's opinion.

RT actually ends up being the best imo because fresh/rotten has a different purpose from normal reviewing and serves as a quick and dirty watchability rating. But I think the distinction between "critics vs audience" is a distraction. Yeah there's some interesting info to take from it but as Lightning Strikes points out, a lot of details are largely down to the weird quirks of these internet databases and the users on them.

They've been Action Adventure since the first one.

RE1 and RE4 are more similar in terms of the cheesy b-movie action/horror tone than I think people give them credit for, but they are definitely still horror. It's a good illustration of the point on gameplay mechanics people bring up, because RE1's more emphasized survival horror gives it weight.

5 meanwhile goes so hard into pulp action that it starts to overpower everything else, and it does it in ways that are uh...not good! The less said about that specific aspect of the game, the better.

Depending on where you stopped, yes. The big thing with bard is reacting to procs, and the proc rate increases dramatically going from 60-70 so the job becomes much, much busier. The dot tick proc rate doubles and Empyreal becomes a guaranteed proc, then burst shot also upgrades its RNG. You already have the full chassis at 60 though, apart from Apex Arrow and the aoe counterpart to Sidewinder.

Very good! I enjoyed Tim's horrible playstyle breakdown, though I'm a bit disappointed about his mind goblin that prevented him from fully exploring other playstyles. I had a similar journey through the terrible skill tree, except the build I settled on after combing various guides was the Cool/Strength build where you get Gorilla Arms and punch everything to death with killstreaks while also being virtually unkillable due to health regen and the five MILLION consumable health trinkets you have on you at all times. This is amusing for a few hours, but much like Goblin Build turns every combat into the exact same solution. I have a sneaking suspicion that every build might be this unsatisfying, although I think Tim found the dumbest one. Pretty unfortunate because quickhacking was the game mechanic I found most interesting, but it seems like it was fumbled just as hard as the rest of the combat mechanics!

Just do the ones that drop materials for characters you might want to raise the talents of, especially for your main DPS. The boss drops accumulate quite slowly so you don't want to be behind on those.

These are good points. I'm still in the process of building characters but have just been focusing on my "mains" so far. I still will need to build more up though so I think maybe I'll get a small stockpile from the bosses I'm not currently using and then stop until I need more.

I've got plenty of Fragile Resin still so it's not a big deal, but I've been saving that for this big ascension mat and artifact grind once I'm done with this event.

So do people typically do all of the weekly bosses all the time? Now that I've have all five for a few weeks I don't know if doing more than 3 is a good use of my resin. Plus the AR50 domains are much less breezy. Azhdaha was already a nightmare I needed co-op to beat at level 80, I don't even want to think about doing that at 90.

The only thing I'd really miss is bilet drops but I don't have a super pressing need for them at the moment since I'm eventually ditching Prototype Crescent on Xiangling for Dragon's Bane, and I'm not currently using anyone else with a crafted weapon.

Forces gets a bad rap, that game is honestly pretty fun. It's just kind of jank and got rushed out for the anniversary. It's a far cry from the era where almost every game was awful. But also, I wouldn't pay full price for it (and in fact paid $0 for it because of PS+ lmao).

Speaking of which the humble bundle is Sonic right now so you can pay $10 for Forces and also get a bunch of other trash!

Not just those two - people point out the quiet atmospheric horror of isolation in Super and Prime all the time. Metroid might not be primarily horror but it's not a stretch to say that specific type of horror is integral to almost every game in the series.

It's basically the same thing he did with his Tokimeki Memorial playthroughs although those are much better. Those were more necessary because almost nobody watching would be familiar with the plot. Same deal though, not really off brand for this particular video series.

Also I preferred it greatly to him summarizing the plot of The Last of Us with his own prose, which was bad! [MARIO OOF SFX]

I don't think Castlevania is trying to have the player be constantly scared but there's totally a lot of elements involved that are meant to unnerve the player. You can tell by the animations and sound effects they use on the enemies, or how they'll randomly put huge monsters in your way to make you go "oh shit." Stuff like Legion is legitimately creepy.

Yeah it's cheesy, but if a horror movie is cheesy is it suddenly not horror?

Persona is definitely trying to do some psychological thriller type shit at some points, and that's a subgenre of horror. Not even going into the rest of the SMT franchise which absolutely draws from the genre.

anyways my point with this is not to say that persona 4 is definitively a horror game but that limiting things to one genre is stupid

I'm not saving for anyone in particular but I'm new enough that a lot of reruns are value for me. I mostly need the good 5* supports. And while I also lack a hypercarry which Hu Tao is, I don't NEED it to be Hu Tao specifically so I'm not excited.

I kinda want Itto, but since I lack Zhongli and Albedo it seems like a bad idea. My next best Geo support for him is...Geo Traveler? I dunno about that. If Yae Miko has good synergy with Raiden then I'll want her, but otherwise I'm fine.

All I know is that in 500 years when Dendro releases, I need to have Baizhu and his snake friend.

I mean, I felt part 3 served an obvious purpose of explaining the game for people who haven't played it and have no interest in doing so. For something like Cyberpunk, that's probably a lot of the audience. It was fine, he did have some pretty good observations even as someone who played through the game, he was off base on others...so yeah, it was fine. It was my first story so I can't compare to the others.

Also gave me the sense my thoughts on what I liked and disliked is going to match up with his pretty well aside from his Panam slander so maybe I'm biased.

This probably goes for the majority of early MCU stuff, tbh. They were basically coasting on the relatively new idea of setting up a shared universe. Now that EVERYTHING is a shared universe people are much pickier.

Yeah I'm looking into it again and it seems to be a misinterpretation based on a Chris Evans tweet and Pixar's blurb about "the hero who inspired the toy." Which people took to mean "real hero" instead of "(fictional) hero" because...I mean it's a dumb way to dress up that it's a movie about a fake movie that got fake merchandise in another movie, or something.

It is that but in games where people's strategies shift frequently due to balance patches, expansions, or just experimentation, reacting to other strategies becomes dynamic and starts to resemble a separate game played alongside the actual game. So, a metagame.

Possible marketing reasons aside, I feel there are very clear quality reasons those two got remakes while Namco thought Eternia was still good enough in 2006 to be a normal PSP game (though admittedly Sony of America seemed not to agree!).

Eternia may be rough but it is definitely the first actually playable Tales game. And hey, it does kinda slap. It's got a party member that mostly just says "Yeah!!!" and shoots a huge gun. That's quality.

Yeah I've been to Inazuma, the other favorite place is Seirei. Yashiori is also neat although I have not explored enough of it to say if it's more annoying than not yet.

I had kind of this issue too when I was behind on the Archon quests. You have to make a conscious effort to progress the story because just logging in and doing dailies and resin gets you SO much exp over a long period of time. Even now I have a ton of sidequests and exploration to do.

I have a 2080 and I played a little at release and a little after the first few sets of patches, and it was mostly fine though I was still encountering minor but annoying graphical issues. Notably tons of pop-in and lighting issues while driving around. I played some of the current patch to get some more of the endings leading up to this review, and one of the characters in the ending sequence got stuck in a T-pose.

The game is just not particularly well-optimized, and at this rate brute forcing it with hardware helps a lot more than the patches will.

Edit: oh I did encounter one game breaking bug (the takemura dialogue glitch where his dialogue tree never ends) but I was able to reload and avoid triggering it

If you have a good PC it was patched enough to be playable months ago, although do note it is still full of weird glitches and bugs. That's just baseline. Though they've gotten rid of most of the gamebreaking ones. If you are on a not-as-good PC or console then lol and I wouldn't hold my breath as they keep delaying the "next gen" version.

I finally got off my ass and completed* Dragonspine, because Childe needs some god damn artifacts. Very cool (heh) area with some neat lore. Though I'm not sure what it says about me that my favorite areas on the map so far are the ones that are trying to kill you.

*(mostly, I think I only have crimson wishes left to do)

Also going to hit AR50 soon which means the ascension mat farming begins once again...
