what counts as a trick? i figured if you create a macro on your computer to just press some keys every few minutes to move, can they detect that...?

I mean that's botting which is against the TOS, but I'm sure that would work. I believe we are referring to the ingame tricks such as crafting, settings menu, retainer bell, those sort of things.

Just set up dots while the tank is pulling. It's fine!

Also I don't see how you get more dull than basically the same 1-2 aoe combo almost every job has. I like all the jobs with absolute weirdo aoe rotations, it makes dungeons less braindead.

edit: and listen if they had just given bard a nerfed version of bane like I've BEEN saying we wouldn't be having this conversation, but the devs are dot-hating cowards

It's all about those fat Apex Arrows, man. Best aoe skill in the game. Multidotting to charge it up faster was pretty obscene. If things don't live long enough for that then QN/RoD spam is still your friend.

iirc it was 30 debuffs shown, 60 actually applied, but this regularly got hit on any world mob (s ranks) and also eureka/bozja. so for that reason alone i like having less/consolidated dots but i agree it feels worse on a personal level to lose complexity/kit

Frankly, I think trying to design jobs around the mass player instances is a bad idea. They keep running up against this ancient and unsolvable technical limitation trying to cram more players in instances, but most of the game is not that. I get the small amount of culling they did to make 24-mans better, and I'm fine with hunts and world bosses being a little jank, but in dungeons and trials where this almost never comes up it's pretty limiting for class design.

I think it would be better if it was like PvP and some skills changed when you went into Bozja. Or if raids shift away from 8-mans and we start seeing a huge focus on 24 and 48 man content this also makes sense, but I doubt that's the case.

Honestly I get why people are upset, but in practice, I don't think it changes much - if you're playing properly you will have the DoTs up all the time anyway. Lowers skill floor by a lot though because it doesn't punish you for dropping the DoTs ever. And it does lower the thematic flavour of the job.

Hmm...this is both true and not. The biggest point here I agree with that it loses flavor and uniqueness. Dots used to tie the kit together, now they're just there. And it is also lowering the skill floor. Personally, I think they WAY overshot the mark on simplification with these changes. I've argued all through Shadowbringers that because ranged doesn't have to deal with positionals or melee mechanics, they should have MORE complex rotations, but the devs seem to want phys ranged to be the simplest and most straightforward job designs. This is just a disagreement with design philosophy that affects my personal enjoyment, but I'll try to set that aside.

I would maybe be okay with a flat 80%/tick rate in a vacuum as it works out to roughly the same rate. I don't think this affects the gameplay TOO much in single target besides making it a little more consistent and boring. Except for Mage's Ballad. I don't know what the fuck is going on here. Bloodletter charges were the change I was most looking forward to, because it solved the problem of wasting double procs and late procs. Except...they removed the ability to double proc. And they nerfed Mage's Ballad to only give you HALF a bloodletter per proc? They fixed one problem three different ways! Complete nonsense design choices.

And as far as AOE goes, multidotting was an extremely fun part of the job and it sucks to see it go. It was a bit unintuitive and awkward but very rewarding to pull off. I agree with tcaz about the devs's anti-dot crusade. I don't know if an intentional design choice, or a technical limitation, or if they just don't want to balance around it but I'm not a fan.

Hmm...Bard got a lot of changes from the media tour which is a bit unnerving because the media tour build looked basically perfect to me. MB got nerfed in exchange for a third bloodletter stack (really don't understand the logic to this) and the tooltip for procs is extremely vague. The internet is doomsaying and interpreting this to mean procs are no longer based on dots which would be TERRIBLE but...I'll believe that when I see it.

Trust me, I don't have any better options than that thing. All my other Hydro cups are even worse. Most of my Heart of Depth artifacts are also trash, I need the set bonus, and farming more of that domain is low priority. I only took it to 20 because I was stuck with it and Tartaglia is truly desperate for crit rate and damage. At 16 the rolls must have been 2 DEF/1 ER/1 CR and the final def roll was just a fuck you.

I like Nanamo a lot but she's painfully naive and inadequate as a ruler and lets an evil capitalist syndicate actually rule UlDah. Her thing about deposing them to implement democracy unfortunately never went anywhere IIRC.

Kan-E-Senna is a joke. Just kind of boring as a character, plus has to serve the will of the Elementals, and those guys DEFINITELY suck.

Merlwyb was awful for most of the game. There is this whole thing with Yshtola calling her out for being a greedy racist pirate lord who antagonizes the beast tribes for wealth, and Limsa itself is kind of a crime-ridden hellhole. She gets a redemption arc, which is good! But it's the game explicitly acknowledging she sucked ass for a long time so I don't think this is a hot take.

Aymeric, Lyse, Raubahn, the Crystal Exarch, and the motherfucking based as hell eglitarian communist utopian gobbies in Idylshire are all fine to great! No problems with them.

Hien is actually unique in that he sucks but the story doesn't draw attention to it. All of his battles are won by getting other people (like the Xaela tribes) to fight for him. That's an interesting angle, but the story really wants us to think Hien himself is cool and he just isn't.

Kuro no Kiseki might do what I think you want? Basically, you have a real-time system (think baby's first Ys game), and after softening up the enemies a bit you press a button to swap to a standard turn-based system. Once you do, everyone's starting positions are exactly where they were when you hit that button.

This actually sounds really interesting but I've already made my peace with never playing the Trails series. Just too much game.

I'd consider it if it turns out to be a good entry point but my understanding of the series is that isn't how it works.

In other languages, Ultimecia is usually translated to Artemisia, from Artemis. The E12 boss is based on a real-world statue of Artemis. Taken all together, it seems pretty likely that this Ascian is meant to be a very uniquely FF14 parallel to Ultimecia. The only thing out of place is that E12S gives The Extreme to Gaia instead, but Savage isn't canon.

Kinda big brain stuff but I honestly don't see it as much of a reach. There's too much going on here.

I'm trying to not be greedy and just settle for artifacts with two decent stats. But my crit ratios are making me very unhappy. I now understand why people buy the battle pass - dealing with crit on artifacts is extremely obnoxious. I'm also forced to use some extremely cursed artifacts currently, like look at this shit



That said, I did my first 9+ Abyss attempt last night and was able to 9* floor 9 and 8* floor 10, though 11 was a wall I didn't want to deal with. So I'm feeling a little better about it. I could have gotten the last star on 10 but I didn't know how to deal with the Abyss Lectors and ran out of steam, and didn't feel like resetting for another 30+ minutes for 50 primos. So I'm feeling a little better about it.

Something I can't get out of my head is that I don't think any 3D game could properly replicate Trigger's battle transitions. Those things are fucking FLAWLESS. The speed at which you get into battle as the characters reorient themselves on the same map is perfect. You can't improve it, only change it, and changing it affects the whole game's pacing (which is also excellent).

There's a few recent RPGs that come to mind here. Persona 5's are slick as hell but they're slower and less immersive. FF7R is really good at it, particularly going from cutscenes to gameplay. 7R can't do this constantly like CT though. I think the recent Yakuza games take place on the same map but normal battles aren't quite as dramatic and seamless? Not sure. So a lot of modern games are close on individual elements, but man. Hard to top Trigger on this.

Having typed all this out it seems like a really stupid thing to fixate on but I really think it illustrates how important even minor things are to the game and how little faith I have in the ability to replicate it. Part of why I have a soft spot for Cross is that it doesn't even try.

Every Extreme I've solo'd for Wondrous Trails up to this point has dropped a random weapon, not a coffer.

I edited for clarity, but right. 5.x weapon drops work this way too, at least up until Emerald which I know I had to farm.

In Savage you get the random weapon and coffer in addition to the trade-in tokens which is how everything should be so it's a great change to make going forward. I'm hoping this means new extremes have it too.

Now that I think about it, IIRC by the time raids actually launched in Shadowbringers there was plenty of materia to go around. I don't even think there was a big price spike or anything. Only raiders buy in bulk and causal players offload extras. So it's less that materia will be scarce and more that prices will be the highest they'll get. At any rate there's a few weeks to build up a healthy supply and save some gil before the gear worth using it on drops.

Well if they follow the same model they've been using, we should get materia at the same rate but it's more scarce in that it'll take some time to build up as opposed to everyone already having massive piles of the stuff.

Hunt trains will probably take a week or two to get figured out but I'm sure they'll be back.

Well, it's not weird. Chrono Trigger has gotten multiple ports and updated versions, and Cross hasn't.

Also! Chrono Cross is a sequel to and a reimagining of Chrono Trigger, and all the stuff people hate about it also doesn't stop the original from being a masterpiece!

The world does not DESERVE another Chrono sequel until Cross gets the respect it rightfully deserves!
