Yeah that's what I mean. I'd have been fine with one Dune movie and maybe a sequel, but seeing that the plan is to structure the movies around covering Messiah it feels like a way bigger waste of potential if it doesn't. There's already a lot of foreshadowing for Messiah in this first movie.

I mean they also didn't explain why everyone was wearing energy shields and yet were still just fighting with weapons that went through them anyways. The lore is cool and all but I think people overstimate how much you need to know to follow the plot of the first book, which you can very easily just take as the fantasy/sci-fi mashup that it is.

Now, if they DO get to do a trilogy, all this stuff gets way more relevant (especially Mentats). But for a movie that also means it's best explained later, not now.

A trilogy would be pretty much ideal, so hopefully the movie does well enough to get two sequels confirmed. It seems to be on a good pace. It would just suck if we only got one sequel and left the third up in the air.

I liked it but I'm so shocked that they only did half the book. I somehow did not realize that going in.

It's not that I dislike the pacing, I think it matches the tone of the book very well. But I think to really *get* what Dune is doing you at least need to read Messiah, and with zero indication we're going to get that it's a pretty bold move.

I've just got zero clue what people who are unfamiliar with the series are gonna take from this

lol no, that's the whole problem. She has The Catch. I squeezed out another ~200 ATK on this current set and can maybe get some more with substat upgrade rng but I can't drop 50 ER without losing almost all her crit damage. Plus more farming, and I just have other resin/mora priorities.

It's fine though, it at least does something for her damage and her burst recharge goes brrrrr. And it's not like I'm planning on beating Abyss anytime soon. Mostly just thought it was funny.

Yeah Ninja just happens to have one of the most buttons to deal with so I can't imagine it's a fun controller job. Nailing the opener is also super important - the entire job is based around dumping all of its resources into the Trick Attack window, so if you screw it up it's going to ruin your whole day. It just takes practice.

Mudras are mostly just muscle memory. If you don't know, there's a trick to memorizing them: you only need to know the number of steps and the final mudra to know what ninjutsu it is (eg 2-step Chi is Raiton, 3-step Chi is Doton).

Everything I saw when building Raiden said that The Catch is even better on Xiangling, but XL has better backup options than Raiden.

I can't argue that a certain portion of those people are divorced from reality, though I will say I think it comes from a better place, or at least the idea of a better tomorrow, than the red hat wearers.

I think it's just the end result of the fact that incrementalism doesn't work as policy when the other side refuses to make any changes whatsoever. Asking for 1 now, then 1 each year thereafter doesn't work because they'll say "ONE IS TOO MUCH". So you just say "fuck it" and ask for 50 because you might as well.

Yes this is a direct result of Republicans not playing ball and most Democrats not wanting to attempt anything other than incrementalism. Progressives are haphazardly trying to cram as much as they can into one bill because this could be the last major Democratic bill passed for the next decade.

Continuing on my farming to get "good enough" artifacts on my characters. Got a decent Severed Fate set for Raiden although I've run into a snag where I apparently have zero 5* ATK sands. Like...at all. Just never got a single one from anywhere so far. So I wanted to share what I've got for her:



Raiden has had this equipped since I got her and it's the first 5* artifact I maxed out. It's also the dumbest one I have! She's getting too much ER and is going to have to switch this out eventually but this is like...all of her crit damage. Can't decide if this is good or terrible luck lol

(using "protagonist" and "main character" loosely here - stories often have multiple protagonists but the FF6 discussion is always framed as who is THE singular main protagonist)

I think as time goes on this FF6 question makes less and less sense to me. The question tends to become "who is most plot relevant" which is fun to argue about but is an entirely different discussion! There's no doubt imo that it's an ensemble cast, and I think trying to force it into a "main character" box just flattens it. Though, saying it's the whole party is also laughable, there's a core of like...5 or 6 characters before you start hitting the B-listers, and that's fine.

I used to be a Terra person but I've changed my mind. Though I will say, Terra is the single most representative character of FF6 which I think is why people view her as the main. Thematically, Terra's story has a lot of overlap with the major themes of the game as a whole. This is true of Celes too, but Terra has an advantage because her backstory is so important. Almost the entire world and plot details of FF6 are defined in Terra's personal backstory! If you were to pick an individual character's arc and follow it beginning to end, choosing Terra basically gets you a Wikipedia summary. But that's not what the story actually does, and it deliberately pivots away from her all the time. So she's not THE main character, but it makes sense why she gets treated that way.

Equipment thats used by a lot of jobs (healing, fending, casting, aiming) will sell faster than equipment used by few jobs (scouting, maiming, striking; scouting is the worst in my experience).

I dunno about you but battle gear has always been a trap for me. Casual players don't need or want crafted gear until the price craters, raiders want it ASAP on release and never again (and plus, usually know a guy). So the window for good money is like a day or two before it stops being worth the effort.

Leveling gatherers (and not neglecting retainers!) is always a good idea for making money effectively with crafting. For CUL this can include Fisher which I recommend using as many tribes/deliveries on as you can.

Making money is pretty simple for CUL and generally boils down to crafting whatever the current best foods are. These don't sell for a ton, but they consistently move in bulk. Unfortunately we're at the part of the patch cycle where people are least likely to be buying food. I would check on how gathering and maybe crafting foods are doing on the MB, but mostly I'd just say prepare yourself for new food and a demand spike in Endwalker.

Another hot tip is that the "furniture" foods sometimes sell for a lot, so check on those.

While farming VV artifacts for Sucrose I was beginning to suspect that EM artifacts might be rarer considering how few I've gotten over the entire course of the game. Though I was mostly chalking it up to bad luck. Then I saw this chart on Reddit...

Honestly love they they are willing to lean into the goofy aspects of Cowboy Bebop. It's not perfect but this does make me more hopeful. But I don't expect the whole show to be like this, nor do I think it should.

Still, very different from the original. You can't replace the anime but stuff like this is what it would take for it to be a worthwhile companion series.

I was all set to go for Machinist but it's easily one of the least "interesting".

If you still plan to play it at cap there's value in sticking with what you know. In Stormblood I dropped BLM for RDM and power leveled it so I could do the story on that (had nothing better to do with Raubahn in the way), played it for two patches and ended up not liking it enough and switching to Bard. Bard was not super interesting to level in 5.0 but it let me focus on other things. If you are super hype for the new jobs then by all means go for it, but personally overdoing RDM burned out my hype.

Basically, my recommendation for new expac leveling is stick to something you know you'll main for MSQ and then do leveling + alliance on alt jobs as you go. It's likely they'll be adding new tiers of materia and it's also likely those will be rewarded from Adventurer in Need bonuses on those 80-90, so just try to snipe those when you can.

Plus, remember they're doing role quests again and also adding a 5th for phys ranged. So it's not like MCH is a waste if that's your ranged of choice. Btw if anyone has not completed all 4 role quests + the epilogues, highly recommend doing that before Endwalker.

Made great progress. Got to the three archives, finally finding a way past fire guy. That motherfucker. I discovered that they disappear when the dam breaks almost by accident (one was chasing me at the exact moment it broke). Is there a more elegant way of finding the solution to that that I'm missing?

A subtle clue is that if you are in another segment as the dam breaks and they go under, you will hear them all scream as they disappear. But I'm pretty sure that just being in one of the the night areas as it's being submerged, getting booted, and seeing their flames have gone out is the main clue. This is basically what you did. Another way is that you can actually enter from the normal location after the water clears out and they just won't be there, so you could find out that way.

Going through all the steps to unlock the Namazu quests is definitely worth it for leveling DoH 60-70. Moogles for 50-60 I'm not so sure about anymore but you're long past anyways. I did them in Heavensward where they were only ok and don't know if they ever boosted their exp. But Namazu quests give SO much and I believe are on par with the Shadowbringers tribes for efficiency. That's a huge omission in the guide.

And as a bonus, the Namazu's story is funny, for sure one of the best tribe questlines, and you get a great mount!

Have you been doing the Namazu quests too? Those are also huge exp. Also do not neglect Custom Delivery EXP. Those are daily/weekly gated but over a long period of time it's basically free. Grand Company turn-ins are another daily source, although they might be more of a pain to track down ingredients than Ishgard.

As far as faster powerleveling, if there's a leve strat similar to the coffee biscuit one earlier, I haven't heard of it.

Okay, I was neutral on The Batman but this trailer has me actually positive on it now. Batman's origin story/early career is still pretty overdone, but Pattinson plus bringing in multiple villains might freshen it up enough.

Peacemaker I'm not into at all, and I say this as someone who enjoyed The Suicide Squad a lot. His portrayal there was quite good and this is...a completely different angle, to say the least. unless there is some Gunn misdirection at work like this is all from the first episode and he goes back to being a complete scumbag instead of this redemption arc

Scott Snyder's initial storyline is entertaining, in an action blockbuster way! But the Court itself was not interesting, and their storyline presence was weak. They are essentially an army of faceless conspiracy mooks with a cool aesthetic for the Batfamily to beat up. Every subsequent appearance/adaptation of them I've seen since has just been a worse version of that Snyder story, over and over and over. They're at their most interesting when it turns out they're working for or pawns of other, better villains.

Maybe Talon is good and gives them depth but I wouldn't know! I basically became sick of them almost immediately.

That said: all this makes them good fits for antagonists in an action game, I'm just not excited about it.

Suicide Squad I don't have any doubts about the gameplay because it's still Rocksteady. The Gotham Knights game by a B-team, that's the one I'm worried about. Plus the Court of Owls is just...a very boring villain concept.

I have a feeling howlongtobeat is counting "main story" as the true ending and not the castlevania-style ending partway through that plum is talking about, but regardless of that, HK is still going to be much longer just to get there. I think a conservative estimate is 66-75% of that playtime.

Complete with shops, character interactions etc.

I'd put it like this: Hollow Knight takes so long to beat blind because on your first playthrough you're playing it like Dark Souls. But mastering the game works like a Metroidvania. It's about learning the map, movement tricks, sequence breaking, and the mechanical details. And what plum says about the optional content is true: SO MUCH of the game is actually optional. You have no way of knowing this on your first playthough, but when you play it knowing what you're doing it feels much more like a Metroidvania. I'm biased because I play a lot of HK randomizer, but believe me when I say the game becomes much shorter on replays.

Finally hit my first pity 5* on the standard banner and it ended up being my first 5* weapon - Skyward Atlas. Seems like a pretty straightforward DPS catalyst which unfortunately I don't currently have a use for. I guess if I ever decide to build up Ningguang or Yanfei they can pop off with it.

Yessss I found that out last week. I think the enemies might be harder to compensate but that doesn't matter because no bounty is harder than the Ruin Hunter that glitches out and keeps flying up into the air spamming missiles after I've already wasted 5 minutes running around the map.

Figuring out the slide was a game changer for me, so much easier than trying to time a jump. The dash is also a lot easier to counter than it looks, and helps with countering the taunt too because the trick is that knowing the timing and tells for those makes being in close for it pretty safe.

Second phase is by far the hardest since you can't rely on counters and have to be much more mobile.

The only thing that worries me about FF16 is that it looks a little generic western. And I'm still not thrilled about the main series becoming an action RPG.

Even as a FF14 stan I'm apprehensive. Though tbh I am kind of tired of the typical "magitek" settings the series have been using for decades so I view western dark fantasy as refreshing for the Final Fantasy series even though it's fairly tired elsewhere in pop culture. Maybe that's just an optimistic excuse from my brain that's been ruined by Yoshi-P lol.
