I do think I prefer SA1's overworld over the stage select screen. It has some pretty bad glitches, a couple of instances of nonsense stage design and they really should have tried either harder or less had with the story and cutscenes (either would have been fine tbh). But for the most part, it's a lot of fun, at least for most of the characters (Big the Cat's fishing is fine once you get used to it; it's Gamma that's the real stinker) SA2, well, it's not like it was terrible, but it was a noteworthy step backward. Stage design was more frequently frustrating, it had a number of bad gimmick levels, they made Knux/Rouge mode super dumb by making you find the pieces in the specific order, and it had a DOUBLE DOSE of Gamma's shooter nonsense. Like yeah if SA1 as it is now came out next to God of War and Elden Ring of course it would be universally panned.
