Single, wish I weren't. But it just seems like women in my area can't be bothered to text back. And I get it, we all get busy, but I don't hear from you in 3 full months, only to see you text and say "sorry, I'm only seeing this now!", sorry sister, your already off my radar. I work a ridiculous amount of hours and even I find time to text people back in an hour or two.

funny you say that because Enix didn't make a single Dragon Quest game. They only published the games made by 3rd parties.

To be honest I wouldn't want them to attempt it in the first place. It's only since Octopath 1 that I started liking their games again. Before that it was a mixed bag of mediocrity since the merger, and I wouldn't trust them to do it properly. If it were Squaresoft before the merger attempting it? Absolutely. But Enix at the time was never a developer. They were only ever a publisher. And know how out of touch their Enix side was at the time (seriously, look into it, its wild how many times their own music director prevented them from releasing the full game for his own profit), I can't trust them to release a proper title.

I was on blood thinners for about 5 months to get rid of that. Before that I had to go through Chemo for my 2nd run of Cancer, this time in my lower back. But an actual injury? I went for a walk in the park late in the evening, it had been raining earlier that day. I slipped on some loose gravel and broke my right ankle, ripped all the tendons in my left, with the assistance of my buddy I walked 1/2 mile back to our car. Didn't find out it was that until 2 weeks later when I was finally able to get a proper X-Ray done.

Meanwhile when my 4 wisdom teeth were taken out, I was only given deadening gum, not even a needle to deaden the area around where they pulled and stitched. I was I think 14 at the time and my parents were pissed. I suffer from High Blood Pressure (one of my kidneys has a defect, so its not weight related), so I was medically required to either be put under or given needles. Didn't really feel it though, just a lot of pressure.

I thought of another downside.. but this isn't really related to Chemo, but rather surgery from having a port removed (ports make getting chemo way easier. No getting daily IVs, or having an IV in your arm for multiple days at a time). And that's cold feet. After having 3-4 surgeries, my feet are always cold as the nerves are all messed up. Even as I'm typing this, my feet are in an electric feet warmer, which is barely helping.

As someone whose gone through Chemo himself, I'm extremely happy for you. Now, that said, I need to warn you about some side effects you may encounter. Tiredness is an obvious one, as is either weight gain or weight loss. I myself lost 30 lbs while going through Chemo, as is T2 Diabetes. You are also extremely susceptible to diseases so your probably going to be home for a couple months after the hospital.

If you went through Chemo (and the advice from here on will pertain), then your hair will start to grow back strange. For me it was thin and curly, and that lasted about 8 months. I was also able to grow a proper scruff beard for that brief period. It's back to normal now.

But the one that really isn't discussed is blood clots. I woke up one day and couldn't move my left leg. Turns out that going through Chemo can also hasten any blood clots you have. So if you wake up one day and feel like something is off, please get it checked immediately. I ended up in hospital for a week because of this (where I binge watched the 100 on Netflix). Ended up on blood thinners for 6 months, which they screwed up on my end as I was supposed to be on needles for only 2 months ended up 4 months on needles (4 needles a day, 2 in the morning, 2 at night), 2 months on pills.

Lastly, there are some things you need to know that can help you out greatly. Cancer survivors have a special pass for the immediate future (I still have it even though my cancer was 2 years ago) where you can be put in a special room away from other patients if you get sick and need to go to Emergency. Our bodies aren't fully healed yet, that takes a few years. Also, please please please check your status with Unemployment. Unemployment screwed me royally. I was 120 hours short when I left my work term so they wouldn't cover me, so I was out several thousand dollars, though my work term gave me a 2 grand bonus so that helped me immensely.

Your also going to be seen with a specialist for the next 10 or so years of your life. Every 3 months you'll have a check-up. For me, that includes blood being drawn and some form of CAT scan. They may also do a more thorough test called a PET Scan. This scan involves you isolating for about 30 minutes while they inject a nuclear isotope into your body which lets them see a better picture of your body.

I went through 2 stints of Cancer. Stage 1 testicular, and Stage 1 or 2 lower back. It wasn't fully explained to me, and that's something I am going to be asking about on my next visit.

At least you won't go into life crippling debt and get all of your worldly possessions taken from you for trying to take care of your health. The US healthcare system is only better if you're rich.

No, but that doesn't matter if your dead. I'm not joking here. People say "Oh its not so bad if I have to wait a bit". It isn't always good to wait. I've known family members who had to wait to get seen, only for their issues to go from a 3 to an 8 all because the wait times are horrendous.

Ergo, why both our countries are screwed.

My cousin got pushed down stairs by his wife and had a possible fracture in his skull and had to wait 3 days to get an X-Ray while he was waiting in the ER. I also needed an X-Ray for a potential surgery and had to wait 2 months to get it. So no, you can't get an X-Ray the same day everywhere in the US. I live in NYC btw. My mom has to wait an entire year to get cataract surgery.

All of that stuff you said happens here too. You just don't hear about it as often because it seems like the media wants to frame the US as this amazing bastion of healthcare while Canada and other places are hellholes.

The biggest problem with it in Canada is the fact that every province runs it differently.

Wait times have such a wide range of differences because some provinces pay and support their health system really well, while others (like where I'm in, Saskatchwan) are run by redneck morons who don't fund health properly.

While my wife was alive she needed a geneticist. There wasn't one in Saskatchewan because they didn't want to pay the going rate for one. We had to go to Calgary to get a specialist. =/

Where I am in Newfoundland, if your in a smaller town, you have to wait for the travelling specialist. I broke my left pinky about 15 years ago, and because the specialist didn't arrive in the town I was staying in until a month later, it healed and can't be fixed anymore. The only option was fusing it with my ring finger, which I refused to do because I want to actually be able to bend my finger for work.

I'm just pointing out that people think the US system is as bad as Canadas when it comes to waiting time alone when its not even comparable outside of your remote towns, that's all.

You realize that's also happening here in the US too right? To see a specialist you have to wait months. When I wanted to go to a cardiologist I had to wait months for an appointment and I ended up going to the ER and telling them I thought I was having a heart attack instead to get checked.

Your name really is fucking apt.

Not to agree with the OP but its not even close to the same. I waited 16 hours with a broken foot only to not be seen here in Canada, all because our health care system can't afford to pay for a second doctor for overnights. Meanwhile my cousin can walk into any doctors office in the States with his insurance plan, and not only get seen, but get set up for an X-Ray that same day, when I could be waiting over a month. If I didn't have my own family care doctor, I'd be screwed. And by the by, family care doctors are extremely rare where I live. I was lucky when my family care doctor retired that all his patients got moved to the replacing doctor.

I've known people to be put on a waiting list for over a year for an extremely important surgery, only for it to be cancelled without their consent because the surgeon decided to take a holiday, and that's the only surgeon in the province that can perform that one surgery.

I'm not saying the States doesn't have issues, you guys most certainly do. You pay way too much for basic quality of life medicare, but at the same time, all our nurses, doctors and surgeons are moving there because the pay is vastly more than here.

Jeremy517 posted...
News flash: You have to wait for months to see a specialist in the US too.

Single-payer healthcare works well in many countries. The US pays far more for health care per capita than any other country, but doesn't receive quality of care representative of that cost.

We don't wait months. Sometimes we wait years.
