Better to get it out of the way early that to be disappointed that this is what it was in the moment.

Xillia ain't bad it's just the midest of the mid this series ever gets.

This was the first Tales game i tried. It's one of the better ones but the series was never that great to begin with.

Really horrified at the thought that they may do Zestiria next.

I can see suits at the top looking at initial sales numbers and being completely tome deaf to how the game was actually received.

Are Zestiria or Berseria available on Nintendo platforms? I could see them doing those games for that reason.

I don't think you have to remember much about Xillia 1 to play Xillia 2.

It'd be nice if this were a two-pack like Namco did with Baten Kaitos.

Zesteria and Berseria two pack because Berseria is technically a prequel WOULD be very funny.

"Hey we remastered one of the best games in the series but you can only buy it if you also buy the worst one".

I do like the Xillia and Zestiria OPs.

Tales series has some solid OPs for the most part.

Zestiria has great music shackled to it like a prisoner.

Rising Up is an all time banger, utterly wasted not only by it's game but where it's used in it too.

The games all have different OPs in the western releases, right?

FFX already did that.

I would hope they'd remaster Innocence R and Hearts R before even thinking about Zestiria.

Get those games out of Vita jail.

Zestiria remains the only one I've ever played that I couldn't finish.

And I did Berseria first to be chronologically correct.

Zestiria never stood a chance after that.

Kind of a hot take but i didn't find Zestiria that bad. I mean i'm not gonna defend it but it's miles better than Xillia 2

I feel like not liking Xillia 2 is a hot take but I also have that hot take.

I just really hated the structure and the story wasn't grabbing me at all. First few areas were so boring. I think I gave it around 8 hours before dropping. Felt like a high end experimental DLC more than a new game.

I also think Zestiria wasn't that bad at first, even if there were warnings signs. It's once you reach a certain point that the game just utterly and completely implodes upon itself and just keeps getting worse and worse.

The rumored backstory of why the game is so bad is way more fun than the game itself.

Tales never has and very well may never again come remotely close to making a moveset as ridiculously good and fun as Ludger's in Xillia 2. Gameplay alone is enough to make it one of the best Tales to me - it's so unhinged but so satisfying that if you're good enough the game actually lets you kill bosses in a single unbroken combo

Yeah, he's not that bad. There are definitely worse mascot characters in Tales than him.

Bienfu is a blight on Berseria's mastery.

Baba rewrote the entire game near the end of development because he wanted to get with Rose's VA, and turned her from a fairly important side character into the lead heroine, throwing Alicia to the side. This is why new Alicia weapons are still available in all the shops throughout the entire game even though she's not a party member. It's also why Baba left Tales after Zestiria.

Known about this story for a while, but looking at it with fresh eyes, I'm reminded of how batshit insane it is lol

I didn't know that lore. Although it makes sense considering the early footage was all Alicia. Then they pulled a MGS2 on everyone.

I like Edna design, but yeah Alisha's role surprised me.
Though i wasn't particularly bothered as she hadn't put up an impression the way say a Milla did.

I find Zestiria to be not particularly exceptional but also found it a rather easy going experience to play. Like there wasn't too many frustrating gameplay moments and you kinda just breeze through it all and then oh hey it's done.

Baba took his own story and made a fanfiction out of it

And then when he got negative feedback he made apology spinoff fanfiction DLC.

Which ironically resulted in the Tales fandom deciding Alicia and Rose were a pairing and thus Baba digitally cucked himself.

Truly a game developed in the Tumblr era.

The entire back half of the game other than 1 or 2 sections is a fundamental mess due to budget fuckups and incompetence. There is no universe where a remaster would be able to come even close to making it viable. It would have to be a full on remake, rebuilt from the ground up.

For God's sake, the final 3 major story beats before the final area are a checklist to go walk through an area you already did to fight a boss and leave because they weren't able to give any of the MAJOR subplots a proper finale after running out of time/money.

The game isn't worth it.

This wasn't technically added for the definitive edition, it was added for the PS3 version we never got. That was a major game overhaul that would have gotten much more focus at the time than a remaster years later.

If the eventual Berseria remaster fixes the dungeon design and deletes Bienfu I would pay full retail price.

Zesty isnt fixable. i dont want it and it never wasted 19 hours of my life

while I haven't played the remaster, they definitely changed Leon's betrayal a lot in the Destiny remake because of their popularity.

original version
Leon confronts Hugo about whether or not he's going to keep his promise to save Leon's lover Marian in exchange for working for him. Hugo threatens to kill Marian if Leon doesn't stall Stahn's group long enough for him to get away, and leaves. Leon attacks Stahn's group without explaining anything. After the fight, the cave floods sweeping Stahn's party away. The injured Leon lies down and awaits his fate, asking himself if he did the right thing and if he done everything he could have to help Marian.

Remake version
Stahn walks in on Leon talking to Hugo in the cave. Hugo gloats about how he's behind everything, and explains to Stahn that he has been blackmailing Leon into helping him using Marian. Stahn forgives Leon, says that he still considers him a friend, and asks Leon to rejoin them and that they'll help him out against Hugo. However the cave starts flooding so Leon tells Stahn and the others to get on the elevator to leave while he ends up staying behind in the cave as it floods in order to run the elevator. Leon's last thoughts are about how he's breaking his promise to Stahn about going on another adventure with him.

Berseria was good enough that I legit didn't care about the dungeon design at all.

Both of those party members actively make the game worse, too. Flynn is much worse from a narrative standpoint as a playable character that's around way more often, and Patty just sucks in general.

The Xillias are petty solid. Love Elize, obviously. And teepo!

We need Destiny on Playstation tbh. Also Abyss remaster.
