I cant stand when people post on Reddit trying to crowdsource names for their pets. Its not that hard to pick a name for your pet.

no this topic is definitely not a poorly disguised way for me to complain about this

I've accumulated a lot of driving pet peeves working as a mail carrier. The one that annoys me most is someone honking at me if I haven't done anything wrong. A close second is someone trying to pass me on the left as I'm turning right. You can wait the extra few seconds it takes me to complete the turn.

Not sure if it counts as a pet peeve but since I just went grocery shopping today it's on my mind.

I really hate how often I'll see empty coffee cups sitting on the shelf at the grocery store. Lazy ass people can't even bother to walk to one of the multiple garbage cans in the store, or even just sit the cup in the cart/basket they're likely using until they leave since there's garbage cans right next to the exits.

Also pharaoh as pharaoh, but at least phonetically I can see why people might misspell it.

Not me but my wife. I once asked her what was the most annoying thing I did and she told me she hates the way I mix my hot sauce with my Mac and cheese. The sound is gross to her. When I asked her if the sound of just mixing mac and cheese around in a bowl would annoy her, she said no because it would sound different.

The subways here have capacitive buttons you can use to get the doors to open at stops. People for some reason angrily mash them to try to get doors to open faster which obviously does nothing. But even worse is that you can activate the button at any time and it'll start blinking to indicate it'll open as soon as it can when the next station is reached. And people will still mash the button, often watching you press it early and pushing past you to pointlessly activate it more. YOU'VE PROBLABLY LIVED IN THIS CITY FOR YEARS HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW THIS WORKS

My pet peeve involves foot traffic. I've always been on the larger side, but I walk fast, and it seriously irks me when I'm going down the sidewalk in my town and the SLOWEST person is meandering right up the middle of the sidewalk. Hug the buildings, and I risk getting smacked in the face by someone leaving it. Try to cut around the curbside? They will speed up juuuust enough that I'm going to wind up either having to step off the curb or have to duck under a small tree.

Similarly, a pet peeve with an IRL friend - he KNOWS I'm deaf in the right ear and yet he almost always will walk on the right hand side of me - and get pissed when I ask him to repeat himself.

Other common grammatical errors I look past, but that one in particular sounds really dumb to the point I don't know how people can consistently make that error.

Something that I know will make me snap one day is when old people (it's always old people) get into the grocery store they just fucking stop, like they are overwhelmed by the choices, or they want to stop to check the paper for coupons, or wipe down their cart. They stop in the fucking doorway. It happens every other time I get to the supermarket.

people do that at stores that have a gate so the only choice you are even able to make is whether to grab a basket or not (which they don't, they always have carts)

why? it's useful/gainful and doesn't obfuscate meaning, which is all you can really ask for linguistic changes, and it's not like English has any consistent rules about differentiating verbs and nouns anyhow

Yes that does sound stupid, but doesn't that have more to do with "tall" than "ask" as a noun?

Ask has been used as a noun in the case of market ask/bid spread since before we were born. It's not that strange that decades later it might now be used for more general purposes than the specific use case from which it originated.

Responding to the headline rather than the article. It happens on pretty much all social media, but I primarily see it on Reddit. People don't talk about articles, they instead talk about what they imagine the article contains.

It happens on pretty much every article, and it's all but guaranteed that this will happen if the headline dares to contain a question.

When people say "chef's kiss", ugh. I can't even figure out why it bothers me, it's just an irrational annoyance.

Inconsiderate people in general also yeah. Standing in the middle of a walkway chatting with someone, so you have to awkwardly shimmy by them or loudly interrupt them to get by. People driving slow in the fast lane. People who think their music or video is so good that everyone around them wants to hear it too. Basically people who think they're more important than everyone else.
