This trailer also seemed to confirm that you can use the joycons like a mouse which is really cool. It looks like that function works when you put on the joycon straps at 1:10 in the trailer.

Yeah, there were rumors that you can use the joycon as a mouse before this trailer so that might be what it is

I really hope they do with Smash Ultimate what they did with Mario Kart 8. Keep everything from the base game and then add more DLC characters and stuff to it. I don't think anybody wants them to start fresh with a gutted roster.

I'm happy for just a new Mario Kart in 10 years. Deluxe all in all was just a big expansion(+ booster pass).

I think 3D Mario seems to be the consensus pick, but are there others that make some sense? Maybe Pokemon or Animal Crossing? Metroid Prime same time with enhancements? Ready to spend 60 on Windwaker and/or Twilight Princess again?

I think Smash Brothers could reach Fortnite level success with a battlepass. Add a new character every 2 months with some actual costumes.

I know everybody hates battlepasses nowadays but Smash (and maybe Mario Kart) should really be forever games that keep getting new content for the entire duration of the console's life.

I actually do agree, because despite being Nintendo, I don't think they'll abuse the consumerism aspects of a battle pass/season live service thing.

I mean they could for all I know and introduce coins as a currency. I wouldn't put it passed them, but if they have something similar to MK8's booster pass system I wouldn't mind.

If you know you're getting a Switch 2 you should get a MicroSD Express Card before the price hike.

If that GameStop leak is to be believed, Nintendo branded ones are over twice the price of what SanDisk is selling them for on their site right now.

Also make sure it's actually an Express card, because their sure are a lot of abbreviations that seems like they could be "Express" but don't.

That depends on how they program BC. Games didn't run better on the New 3DS unless they were patched to, for example.

Tears running well on actual hardware would be great, but my goodness the things I would do for Astral Chain at 60 fps

If it's fucking direct Switch emulation and that shit all runs the same I'm not buying this console.

hopefully it does run better because a PC emulator really shouldn't be the best way to experience those games. with the mouse joycon things being true that lends itself credit to all the other rumors, so it'll be interesting having essentially a portable PS4 in power with some DLSS 2 tricks. technically still something that any modern PC can emulate as well but significantly stronger that i can't imagine why things like say, Pokemon, aren't constantly running at 60.

If it's like the Wii which was 2 GCs glued together then no. But I'm pretty sure the Switch architecture is more like modern PCs where they can have upgrades across the board. You never know until they release the details though.

With DLSS at the least they can add frame generation to old games without affecting them, so it can potentially look smoother in a fake way.

Nintendo will probably release upgraded versions of several games for the Switch 2.

Dunno what I'm doing wrong but feels like games I downloaded digitally seem to take quite a bit of time to load.

I really hope the Xenoblades can get a resolution bump.

Galaxy looked quite a bit better than Sunshine, didn't it? And Xenoblade was a big upgrade over Baten Kaitos.

The Wii actually was about two times the power of the Gamecube, that is presumably where that meme came from. Add to that a few years of improvements in optimisation and you get some far more impressive stuff than the Gamecube had.

Kind of a bad example since Baten Kaitos used prerendered backgrounds while Xenoblade was semi-open world.

yeah we're basically going from a chip that was already 2 years old by the time it was in the switch, a 2015 chip, to a very modern custom one by nvidia who is just starting to make their own fully custom chips. that's a pretty great spot to be in power and though it's a year old, digital foundry did cover this and we can expect that to be the minimum value:

add in the drastic improvement on RAM and storage speed and you've got a really nice system. even though it's still gonna generally be at the level of 9-12 year old systems (PS4 Pro - PS4), the little cheats it has with DLSS and Ray Tracing will make a pretty big difference, both visually and in framerate, that can make it look better than that. legit the kind of leap we used to see with consoles.
