I wanted to like this game so badly. The skeleton of a good game is there. It's just an utter mess to play.

I mean if we're rating games based on externals such as Pokecapn's legendary LP, I'd give it a higher score, but I'm assuming we aren't...!

Yeah, I dont think I can rate this one, even though I watched two complete LPs of it.

I will give it credit though. A lot of bad entertainment tends to be top-heavy and end up dragging the whole way. This one is quite bad from the start but continues to be bad in truly unique ways all the way through.

Hmm... To come up with a short list that may fit the criteria (or at least would score below 5);

• DMC Reboot
• Metroid: Other M
• CD-i Mario and Zeldas
• Apollo Justice and Ace Attorney Investigations
• Possibly some of the later Mega Man X titles
• Resident Evil 6
• Fire Emblem: Revelations
• Final Fantasy 2 or 3
• Possibly Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
• Maybe Paper Mario: Sticker Star
• Superman 64

As for Sonic 06, 3. Still really like the music and don't think it's TOO terrible, but yeah, rushed out, bugged, badly programmed (I remember hearing the loading screen is up for so long because apparently SEGA programmed it so the game loads EVERYTHING before unloading the unnecessary assets for some reason), gameplay mechanics that are (generally) not enjoyable, zero fun and motivation in 100% everything outside of the main story and mandatory side quests, and a poor plot that does a character death fake out towards the end only to basically pull the "never happened" trope. Effectively killed my interest in Sonic series for a long time due to the declining quality of the series and the next few games looking more of the same garbage.

I don't think any Ace Attorney game scores below a 5.

Eh, I think AJ, AAI1, or Layton/AA could pull it off.

There are B8 users who have openly admitted to walking away from the Ace Attorney series because of either Apollo Justice or (to a lesser extent) Ace Attorney Investigations. During my initial playthrough of AAI1, I stopped playing midway because of how much I disliked playing the game up to that point and it took several years for my interest in the series to return.

Apollo Justice is also infamous for having arguably the worst case in the series and the most divisive epic case. I think that game would at least get enough low ratings if it was selected.

Sticker Star is still my pick for a low rated high playrate game on this board. I think the likes of Zelda 2, FF13, AJ etc have too many fans to wind up below 5. I don't think anyone loves Sticker Star! But it may get a lot of middling ratings, I suppose.

Haven't played Sonic 06, though I'm curious if it really is as bad as its reputation. The votes so far suggests it is! Hopefully Project '06 will get a full release eventually.

Holy Magic Century / Quest 64 might also do it.

It's a tough range to hit 3-5. You'd need a game that's widely disliked but has some people that like it. I think disappointing entries in popular series are where to look for that.

Apollo MIGHT fit the bill but I think it'd be in the 5-6 range. If people rated mediocre games 5 it'd get there but it'd likely get a lot of "it wasn't that good-- 7" votes which would lift it out of the 3-5.

I'm as big of an AA fan as there is on this board and I don't think I could give AJ higher than a 6

I think there are enough people who like it less but grade more leniently to drag it up

But I do think it's a good enough chance that it should be tried. I'd do my part to bring it down!

I grade pretty leniently! That's why I thought it was a good option because even I can't give it that high of a score.

I would definitely give Sunshine in the 3-5 range, so I think it's a good option, too.

It's just a really hard sell for any game to get very low when this happened.

I actually think Zelda 2 is the best chance on the list I posted. I could see that getting a lot of 2s and 3s and then some 7s.

Oh Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest would be another one to try.

Basically I think the goal is "disliked game with some fans"

X-2 I could see some 7s-9s and mostly 1-3s which would average up to 4 or so

I think mediocre games would generally end above 5 because most people would rate 5-7 and the negative votes don't pull it down enough

I think Sunshine would get a lot of 7-8s, if not higher. Very much doubt it'd go below DK64. Maybe something like Wii Play?

I thought there'd been a slight critical reappraisal with DD being seen as the weak link of the AJ trilogy, but I guess that hasn't bled into the board. It'd be an interesting one to do.

I'm also not sure who's giving Sticker Star middling scores

It's a functional enough game so I figure there might be a lot of 5-7s, but I still think it would have a low base.

XIII clears 6 easy imo. I think most people slightly like it it just has vocal haters.

XV seems like a decent choice too.

I once considered this the worst game I've ever played (or at the very least beaten), but I've played worse over the years.

Final Fantasy II maybe but there are also people that like it

Thankfully, what an abysmal opinion. That can stay on Reddit along with "6-2 is actually the best non-epic case."

Sunshine is a good game.

Anyway whats the ruling on watching full playthroughs but not playing the game for this? Because Ive watched two full playthroughs (pokecapn and the Giant Bomb Blight Club run) of this and loads of commentaryless footage.

I finished watching that Blight Club today. I feel like I am very familiar with this game and have opinions on this that would not change if I arbitrarily held a controller for a bit. But I get it if that would set a bad precedent.

Either way, 2.5/10. Its not a 1 because the music is quite good, its weirdly ambitious, and the Shadow campaign is notably better than the others in both story and design. There are also points where it looks alright for the time. Everything else is a trainwreck. Its not even just that its blatantly unfinished, its clearly terribly designed, written, and acted.

On it being The Room of games, no thats The Quiet Man. This is more like the Cutthroat Island of games, this huge expansive thing that becomes a disaster through troubled development but likely would not have been any good anyway. Even if this had the greatest game feel ever it wouldnt change my mind. Similarly, the few positives are fairly evident to me.
