the only person in a position to even insinuate such is a friend from benin, who once suggested that the afro-american colonization of liberia lingers in the cultural memory of west africans and to some extent their perspective of the diaspora in the usa

I knew a guy that wanted to colonize me for reparation purposes. That's as far as I think I can go on this website.

They would need to be specific about which era they're talking about. None of my grandparents came here until the 1910s and I have bloodlines who at one time were part of a colonizing nation, so it'd be dependent on the context.

If they're just talking about modern America, then I wouldn't care cause I'd likely agree with colonizer or imperialist (though I wouldn't identify as such, they wouldn't be wrong about my nation of origin).

My people were too poor to be colonizers. Half of my family ancestors were subsistence farmers, the other half river fishermen.

Offended? no. But it's an easy way to know the person saying it is an idiot.

Pretty sure I've never colonized a damn thing. Calling me such would be blaming me for the actions of people who lived long before I was born, towards people who lived long before the accuser was born, simply based on the respective skin colors. Or as most people call that, racism.

I didn't say it's "no big deal". I said I am not the one responsible for it and blaming me just because I share a skin color with those who are - not even heritage, just a skin color - is blatant racism.

What you are doing is exactly the same as those who blame Palestinian civilians for Hamas's actions, or Israeli civilians for the IDF's actions.

Except even worse, because you're blaming me for actions of people that lived before I was even born, and as such even theoretically there is not a damn thing I could've done to influence it either way.

The only difference is that you've decided one of these groups is okay to blame the whole group for the actions of a subset, while the others you've realised it isn't.

I'm not taking accountability for something I didn't do. Also if we want to talk ancestors l, part of my ancestry are victims too.

I might dabble in a conversation online about it, but IRL, I'd just ignore anyone calling me that. They aren't worth the energy as such a conversation isn't all that productive in the grand scheme of things. It assumes way to much about multiple things.
