Boom - its 2003, Im 13, and Im playing Silent Hill 2 at my grandmas house in Florida. The weathers beautiful, got the windows open, and Im straight chillin on summer break. I get stuck on a puzzle - go on my grandmas computer, type in silent hill 2 help and there it is:

GameFAQs.

And boom right on the front page - Sora vs Aeris. Im like YO THIS IS COOL. And then theres a link thats like you can discuss the contest on the GameFAQs contests board!

So yeah, Board 8 was probably the first internet forum i ever found. I think before this it was just aim chat and Battle.net. And immediately i was like yo this is amazing

Some guy eating a copy of FFX, Kyle Bowens bar and lounge, CATS memes, people obsessing over obscure games and obscure characters. Like yo who tf are Isaac and Felix? I gotta go play Golden Sun wtf

Throughout the years I was mostly always lurker, and I never really became a truly regular b8er. I ran a couple contests throughout the years, but nothing crazy. Trolled a lot though. I was the only person who rated Punny vs Palmer at the Ghetto Olympics a 0/10 lol

Once the contests died out, i stopped coming here for a couple years, but in March of 2023 - twenty years after originally discovering this board - I came back here out of a sense of nostalgia - and sure enough its still going with shit like:

-LMS topics
-Aw Yeah SHINE Platinum #7,097 Hentai Girl Shooter with zero posts in it
-some guy reviewing every Playdate game in excruciating detail
-internet tough guys like Lopen calling everyone too sensitive
-user contests where we create Mount Rushmore.

Like wow incredible. Like honestly, this board is important. This place is like stepping into a time capsule. And Im gonna stick around till the end, fuck it

Back in the day it always felt like there were thousands of users here, and it was hard to really get to know people, especially since all you had to go by was a username with no portrait. But now theres significantly less, and its more manageable in my mind. The average topic poll has like 30-40 users voting, but thats only counting the ones that vote, so im thinking maybe theres like 50-100 active users here? And thats not even counting random lurkers and trolls

Speaking of trolls, I came back right around the time the Current Events board was deleted, so all those dweebs were coming here and posting their CONTRARIAN HOT TAKES lmao. I remember in particular there was one topic that was like Zelda was never good and another was Dark Souls needs a pause button and both just became SUPER SERIOUS DEBATES with 500 posts lmao. And that was when i first started to get an impression of a bunch of the remaining users here

So yeah after a year of being back, post and Ill tell you my impression of you! Heres my favorite users so far tho:

HARRICH - When said Zelda and Souls topics were going on, this guy stood out by posting intelligent, well thought out takes. Even in my recent LMS topic he did the same. And anyone who likes Neverhood has to be a bro

Kamikaze potato - This guy was such a bro during my Bloodborne/Dark Souls II playthroughs, and then turned right around and continued to ride with me when i played Shadowbringers. In the Zelda debate topic, he himself admitted to not caring about Zelda, but made fun of the contrarians regardless. I also liked that one time i name dropped Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds, and he was immediately like true. Good taste and chill user all around

LightningStrikes - When the Zelda contrarians were invading, he also made good, rational posts. He made our Tears of the Kingdom topic, and he made a good, sincere post telling LMS about the danger of youtube algorithms. Also one time I jokingly said FF Tactics is mainline, and he posted a five page rant on how it isnt lmao. Also he knows way too much about Disney princesses

MartinFF7 - I cant recall any specific moments, but he just seems crazy-funny in a good way, like with that crazy Moogle Topic. He was enthusiastic about my FF ranking topic, and just seems pleasant and chill all around

MZero - I had barely been back on b8 for a week, and I mentioned I was going to Japan, and this fuckin guy was like yo lets hang out. Like damn a bro. I barely know you but fuck yeah I'm down. Too bad our schedules were conflicting tho! Also this guy is the fucking FFX master, he likes Japanese Sega Saturn games, and the only other user besides me who hates the FF7 remakes. Good user

active is hard to define but there's 185 online right now on discord and almost all of them still look at the board to some degree. smfffc has like this amount of voters and smfffc isn't hitting 50% of the users
