Nah, I feel like those have generally been considered the bottom two for a long time.

Spirit of Justice takes it, just feels like a uncoordinated epic mess compared to all the other games in the series which at least have some synergy with each other

PLAA for me. It's just milquetoast most of the way. There were some good parts though.

I ranked it 5th in my series ranking, ahead of both DD and JFA.

Dual Destinies is my least favorite period, though I haven't played AAI2 or the ones set in the 1800s

Layton vs AA is the only game I haven't played, my phone couldn't run it.

I have a PC now though so maybe.

i'm just surprised jfa's reputation has improved enough to not be anywhere near bottom 3 now. like i don't like dd or soj as much as any of the original trilogy but i felt like that was a minority view

either way plaa voter tho (it's not bad, it's just weaker in a lot of areas)

I liked it and I've since played five of the Layton games.

I think it's still my least favorite of this bunch though.

Franziska is one of the biggest problems with JFA, but I'll reiterate that 2-2 is legitimately good and 2-3 is a fun time despite how messy it is.

I genuinely dislike 2-2 and 2-3. Without 2-4, I might have quit the series.

People talk mad shit about 2-2 and 2-3 and that's fine but the worst case in that game is 2-1, hands down. Until I played Investigations 2 I think it was actually my least favorite case in the series.

Layton endings are pretty wild, yeah

I'd still recommend the odd-numbered entries (the third game in particular is excellent). The second game is the only one I'd say is bad.

Nobody needs to talk about 2-1 because nobody defends 2-1.

It's definitely PLvAA

2-1 exists, 2-2 is good, 2-3 is the worst case of the trilogy.

Sometimes I wonder if I only think 2-4 is the best because the other cases made it look better by comparison.

Experienced it semi-recently though, and it still holds up. There's an underlying tension there that no other case has. It's the closest the series comes to actually making you believe that things are hopeless. The first Not Guilty / Guilty choice is woah. Last topic some people mentioned how AJ went for a somewhat darker tone - I think 2-4 is the version of that done right.

2-4 is still the best case in the series. There's truly not another case like it, and you could never replicate it without losing the effect either. You have Edgeworth at his best, Phoenix as we've never seen him before, lots of Mia (an underrated aspect of the case), two of the best non-main character witnesses in the series, and a defendant who honestly stands alone (for obvious reasons).

It also manages the miracle of having Lotta and Oldbag in the same case and still being amazing.

Dual Destinies has way too many votes.

Given 1-3 is probably the most underrated great case in the series and it leans heavy into that it makes sense

also Oldbag is a very quality character, would easily go Oldbag > Franziska

Layton vs. AA only has one good case, and too many bad parts otherwise.

Old Bag and Lotta both contenders for top 20 worst characters in anything ever TBH.

GAA1 for reasons stated in last topic. I think Vs Layton is actually underrated. Case 3 is legit top 5 case in the series and Case 1 and 2 are a pretty good intro to the crossover and Labyrinthia respectively. Case 4's investigation segment was pretty good too. It only started faltering when the actual final trial started which puts a damper on the whole game. Notably, it did a lot of DD's tropes before it and better imo, a big gender reveal, your sidekick actively testifying against you, a spoken phrase being mistaken for something else, culprit didn't actually kill the victim at all, female ally turned defendant is gaslighted into believing she really did commit the crime only to turn out it's someone else, some other stuff that I don't remember since it's been awhile since I played both games but I've always had this thought in my mind. Also Aura Blackquill is basically Darklaw but more ridiculous looking.

The 1-3 case, 2-4 correlation is interesting to see. I actually am not a fan of 1-3 that much but 2-4 is still the best case in the series for me

I decided to go GAA1 over LvW for worst since LvW's best case (3) is better than GAA1's best case (also 3) and... I dunno, there's something about GAA1 overall that I find annoying, like its characters and writing are great but the fact that it's all left to be a setup for GAA2 kinda sucks, and the conclusion in GAA2 felt kinda rushed so the long setup barely even feels justified. I really hate G1-4. I also don't care for LvW's conclusion much, it's overlong and it's a Layton plot, but whatever, I'll take LvW over GAA1 narrowly.

3 > 6 > 2 > 1 >>> GAA2 > AAI2 >>> 5 >>> LvW > GAA1 > AAI1 >>> 4

Yeah I guess that ranking feels about right. I dunno, I can go in almost any order on those last three that are above 4.

I voted Spirit of Justice just in the sense of how dumb their attempt of raising the stakes was.

Like, Phoenix getting the death penalty if he loses doesn't affect the gameplay one bit, so why bother?

SoJ >G2>3>I2>DD>1>2>I1>4>G1 is where I'm currently at.

Gotta at least try LvW

i voted LVW since it is kinda bland, but GAA1 is offensively bad in parts and incomplete. it actually gets really hard once those two are out

It's possible. I have not done a full case ranking since I finished GAA. I'm probably long overdue for one!

on a unrelated note I played through Ghost Trick end of last year and really liked it

Might be better than GAA as a package which is pretty much my second favorite behind 3 3 it has been about a decade since I have played maybe I should give it a go again

Ghost Trick is great!

Don't know where I'd rank it relative to the AA games, but I'd recommend it to any AA fan.

We need another poll without Layton (not really)

Besides Layton I'd give it to AAI2. It really isn't that much better than the first one. It has one really good case, but the pacing issues remain.
