I definitely think we're on borrowed time. Fandom's (immediate?) changes after buying this site were so comically terrible, it made me feel like I was browsing the 2003-era internet. It was the one thing that compelled me finally get a third-party web browser on my phone.

True. Allen was the only link we had to the old days, and obviously the only representation we had with this new owner. Unless I'm mistaken, the only remaining Admin - and thus the only connection between Fandom and the GameFAQs userbase - is the new guy DToast. I don't know anything about him apart from his own introduction post, but he's a 26-year-old who never visited this site before he started to work as an Admin.

SBAllen has a home on Board 8 if he wants it. Come drift across the internet with us.

DToast is good people. Nobody's perfect or anything like that but he's been very relaxed and receptive in the interactions we've had so far.

(And this isn't me being like a company man or whatever bullshit, if I thought he was bad I'd say so or at least say nothing)

Notably Dev - formerly Devin Morgan - who is presumably still in charge of the technical side of things. Also someone named ZoopSoul who idk anything about really.

I think most of the staff have posted here at some point or another. Pre-Fandom, at least.

Major props to the guy for sticking with us as long as he did.

New admin hasn't really inspired any confidence, all i can do is hope he doesn't mess things up as much as Fandom wants to.

realistically gamefaqs has been on borrowed times for years already, it's actually kind of surprising a forum and non-wiki based text site has survived as long as it has with the kind of traffic it receives

Everything you described is part of why it's survived for so long. Overhead/upkeep on the site has to be minimal compared to its contemporaries. At least before Fandom got involved...

GFAQs actually has a nice little niche as actual walkthrough content has become convoluted messes and hard to find. Nothing makes me angrier than actually needing help with something in a game these days. Pretty much stuck trying to sift through someones 20+ minute video to find some innocuous little thing. It is awful.

But fandom suck so it probably wont mater in the end.

Thanks for all the years of hard work, SBAllen. It won't be the same without you.

We should have a farewell episode of The Show that finally delivers on SBAllen as the special guest.

"Because someone won't know or care why it's here and will just sweep it aside out of complete apathy" is I think the fear, but I won't assume one way or the other about new leadership

Even if you transplanted 100% of current users to a subreddit, it wouldn't be the same. The message board format is part of what I value about B8.

That sounds promising. Having a board like this is much easier to manage and keep up with than discord where you basically fall out of the conversation after a hour away and don't feel like scrolling back up 5k lines.

sure, I think this a reasonable concern for the site as a whole or even the boards as a whole, but I dont think its a risk for this board specifically.

just doesnt seem worth anyones time to eliminate one specific, non-problematic message board on a site with tens of thousands of boards.

I have a lot of respect on Allen's end for keeping the site philosophy intact.

Will forever be the best gaming resource on the net.

I can re-open at any time. I only made it private to keep bots out of there.

The risk is always that CE does something disastrous and we live in a risk-averse world where people think social forums are just a risk to the bottom line consistent traffic and get closed along with them.

Oh yea forgot to thank @SBAllen you kept this place up longer than the guy that sold us out. Thanks for all the great memories and contests.
