The game's first act has been in early access for a couple years now but the full release is in...an hourish.

I wasn't really gonna bother with it but I have friends who are really into Larian and D&D so I'm gonna give the multiplayer a shot. I'm curious to how that works in an RPG like this, though I don't expect things to go smoothly at release lol. But suddenly I'm looking forward to the game despite being out of the DND scene for a while now, and not having played many cRPGs.

But anyways this has been hyped up as a big release in a year that is full of big releases, and I'm wondering if it's going to meet expectations. There's like a subset of RPG and DND fans that have been going nuts for this, but in terms of making a splash with the larger gaming populace, I dunno (not to say b8 is a good indicator of that, but...). But it's got potential to fill the void Bioware left.

Also there's like zero reviews because they pushed the date up to avoid Starfield and only sent out review codes this week lol

I think I'll pick this up when it releases on PS5 and try to play it with my wife. Never played a game like this couch co-op before so I'm a bit wary.

It's on my 'get to it' list, but have been meaning to play though I and II again. Don't think I've touched them since early 2000s.

Plan on playing later today.

I feel like Divinity OS 2 got a huge number of post-launch improvements? Kinda worried they'll do the same thing here, so I haven't started it yet.

Basically where I'm at. Same thing happened for the Pathfinder games. I don't trust games like these on launch.

It's downloading, but it's entirely possible I won't even get past character customisation until all the hair and face mods for the EA version get updated to work with the finished game.

speed is inconsistent, right now its like 60% done and it says it should be less than an hour longer, but it was going much slower earlier today.

This game looks like the second coming for DnD fans and I'm extremely excited to play it... but it also looks absolutely massive and with how rapid-fire this year is for games I don't necessarily have the bandwidth for it right now. Will probably wait for a sale, by which point (as others have pointed out) there might be some post-launch improvements.

Board 8 has never been a vocal hub for PC gamers. Might check this out on PS5 later.

Sounds like it runs fine on Steam Deck, so I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually.

I found this. Had a bunch of crashes, but Proton Experimental fixed it.

ok I switched to that and still wasnt working then I restarted the deck and the deck froze while trying to restart, so I hard shut it off with the button

immediately I am overwhelmed with character options, but I believe I have settled on a gnome bard because the random appearance for the gnome was so good, I couldnt not take it

I could easily see myself playing with a couple of friends of we can agree on it as a game to play together. Not a high priority otherwise.

Heads up for anyone else who plans on playing multiplayer, if someone joins your game and makes a custom character they are locked into your party forever. Even if you play solo without them, you can't switch them out with another companion. You still control them of course. But just something to consider.

Not a huge deal for me because I'm just playing with my wife which leaves me with two other party slots but still something they should change imo.

The initial cinematics and the initial gameplay area are pretty awesome. Damn the cutscene integration of the player character are embarrassing though.

It's definitely jarring at times.

Other than that the only issue I've ran into is sometimes the dialogue gets cut short.

This game is fucking dense tho, getting overwhelmed haha.

Anybody know how the difficulty works out?

I just went ahead and picked Tactician since I'm a diehard fan of BG1&2 but no idea how difficulty actually will turn out here, I never played Divinity 1 or 2. I was just barely not able to finish off that Tiefling Commander in the prologue once his reinforcements showed up and starting rolling me so i just gtfo of there.

If it's anything like Divinity 2, I would recommend quick saving a lot. That's all I'll say.

I have heard people talking about this game being difficult on normal and even easy, requiring lots of reloads, but I have no idea how it compares for BG1/2 experts.

Haven't played enough to run into anything too spicy myself. But especially early on, 5e can get very swingy.

Also, just for reference, I'm not very far in, but if it is like Divinity 2, movement(movement abilities/spells, ect) is essential if you want to make things 'easier'.

I already encountered a place I could only enter because Im a little person, so 10/10 perfect game

Yeah game definitely jumps in difficulty after a few hours in. I got absolutely destroyed in a battle.

just discovered I can throw living beings and it has changed my life

fully just lifting and tossing goblins into the void now, it rules

cast enlarge on my big lady, then cast shrink on a big dude, and my big lady tossed the big dude into the a pit. Excellent game.

Would this be a good entry point for someone who's never played a game like this before?

Closest was probably DA1.

I would say yes, but expect to be a bit overwhelmed at first, especially if youre not familiar with DnD vernacular.

Kinda want to get the 1+2 collection on PS4 first though

I'm doing coop with my friend who has never played any game like this before and he's really digging it. It helps that I am able to explain some of the mechanics (because it is very DND), but I do think he would enjoy it even without my presence.

Yeah, the sheer amount of ways you can deal with enemies is kind of staggering. I've been recently just luring enemies to high spots and then just shoving them off, and it works wonders.

Murdered the entire goblin camp, they left me no choice.

Murdering that goblin camp took us so long...so so long

We had no short rests left and we couldn't leave to long rest because the druid dude wouldn't come and we had Shadowheart and my warlock who were completely out of spell slots so they were practically useless and we were on tactician mode...but we finally got through it

If not for that horn that summoned the ogres for 500gold that you can get in the blighted village it would've actually been impossible, but that let us beat the devil looking boss in the middle room

I was having trouble against him too, but I ended up luring him to the rafters and having Karlach knock him off for a ton of damage.

Thats when I learned I need to make sure I have misty step, such a good traversal spell.

Not reading anything so not to spoil myself, but I've loved what I have played - even if I have played the beginning like 4 times before deciding on a race + class combo.

I have a character in multiplayer and in singleplayer, and I think I prefer the game singleplayer. They both have their pros and cons, but prefer being able to choose the the path that I want + not miss stuff because people run off ahead

I normally don't play these sort of games, and I've never played the other Baldur's Gate games either. Is this an easy jumping on point?

skme aspects of the class/leveling system were a bit overwhelming to me at first, but I think its managable to jump on here.

The new stuff you unlock for a class at each level is super different, which can be confusing (like theres not a clear skilltree or anything, its just level 4: heres a bunch of spells, level 6: now you can attack more than once But Its pretty easy/cheap to respec, so its not a huge deal if you regret choices later on

I would say so, as I was on the same boat and bought this purely on a whim. Granted I have played Divinity 2, too, and got somewhat far into the game but it just never quite clicked.

This clicked almost instantly for me.

Every time I find a hobbit hole I wish I had a little guy to send in there (yeah I know there's other ways into those). Maybe they're cowards that don't want to have to write a hobbit who fucks.

In fact I'm gonna drop a hot take and say Gale should have been a gnome or something. I don't think you'd have to change anything else!
