Weird question- does anyone else think that the MC looks permanently pissed off, or is it just the (modded) face I used not looking as good in-game as she does in the CC screen?

It kind of looks like her brow's furrowed, as if she's slightly confused and very annoyed about it, which I wouldn't blame her for except it seems to be all the time rather than her expression reacting to what's going on.

I've noticed the same thing, I thought it might've been because I'm playing as a half elf or something

I am one of those 10% that spent over an hour in character creation.

I'm in act two now also and like my only major complaint is that I think they overdid it with ledges in the game. Like it's way too easy to get pushed off when you roll poorly on initiative, especially when some mobs can push you like a mile. or cheese fights by launching bosses off too.

I keep watching clips of this game, and I love all the dialogue I've seen. But I have literally never played a game, video or tabletop, that implemented a 20-sided die system, and before seeing these clips, wasn't particularly interested in the genre.

How easy would it be for me to acquaint myself with the system if I wanted to try this game? Are there any skill paths or something that are easier to ignore the initiative system in combat? In theory, I don't like how much variance you can have in it.

I'll reiterate that only experience I have on this type of game was Divinity 2, which admittedly I gave up(stopped) on about 20 hours in. The game was great, it just never clicked.

This game clicked right away, and imo, I don't think the the skill paths, or the initiative system is what is going to turn people away, that stuff is great, and somewhat easy to follow. The thing that might turn people off is just the how hard the the battles can be.

My biggest complaint right now is actually just party movement, because my my group likes to run over traps all. the. time.

I'd say give it a shot.

Powergamers play humans in DND because extra feats etc enables some crazy stuff, but I think they didn't give humans that in BG3? What kinda psycho makes a human when you can be a devil or a dragon???? At least pick one of the little people so you can crawl into small hidden areas.

Human is fun to play as when you get to be the fish out of water/straight man in a strange setting. But if most of the party members are already humans and elves...eh...

Oh nice, I learned to multiclass, and now my MC has some damaging cantrips. I guess I may just jump back and forth leveling between Warlock and Sorcerer.

90% of the races in the game are human or elf hybrids. Definitely a bit lacking in that regard. At least there's dragonborns.

if you go that route, youll miss out on higher levels spells. Like at Warlock level 3 you would get 2nd level spells, but if youre Warlock 2 / Sorcerer 1 youll still be stuck with 1st level stuff

if you want some cantrips, best bet is probably taking one of the fears at Warlock level 4 that gives you spells from another class

Unless you really, really know what you're doing, multiclassing in D&D is a trap.

In actual combat, you don't really need to know that much. The game does all the math for you. Of course, knowing the mechanics of D&D 5e helps with knowing why the numbers are the way they are. But most stuff you can just figure out just by playing. The most important thing is really knowing what actions, bonus actions, and reactions are.

You can't really mess up a build either since very early in the game you get access to a respec machine (for a small gold fee). I'd say the biggest hurdle for a brand new player is learning how different classes work mechanically and what they can bring to the table in and out of combat.

Some other things help too. Like stuff that is good in the table top game is generally good in bg3 too.

I still ended up with a lv 2 Burning Hands that doesn't cost a spell slot, on top of the various other stuff I got at Sorcerer lv 1. It was just kinda thrown on at the end of the level up tabs.

I have no idea what Im doing and am trying out Paladin/Warlock on my mc lol. I figure I can always respec so why not experiment?

I'm doing Druid/Barb

But only 1 point in barb so I can just be a raging wolf / bear and only take half damage from most things.

Multiclassing is the best way to play

Multiclassing also opens up more dialog options which is fun.

Yeah my next run im going to do jack of all trades. Right now I'm a warlock/paladin. Going to take two in fighter for action surge probably too. It's just like kind of rp breaking to be like "yes I have a pact with an outer entity and can control the dead. Also I am a holy avenger of justice'."

Hmm, having difficulties figuring out how Speak with the Dead works. Cast it on someone, they remained silent, and now I seemingly can't cast it on anyone else even though it says "can recast" on my list of reactions or whatever.

Multiclassing is neat but you should really be aware that every time you take a level in another class you are preventing yourself from reaching a higher level on main and limiting yourself from big power spikes. For example, level 5 gives you an extra attack every turn which is huge - multiclassing delays you from reaching it, and taking three classes means you might never get there.

There's a couple fights you can run into in act 1 where its a bunch of lvl 4 mobs and one level 5 mob, and that level 5 mob fucks. It's not a coincidence that the mob is level 5.

lmao, it just added a new option right on top of the base spell, and I totally missed it.

Oh, I just stumbled on this by happenstance. Luckily I saved before entering the mysterious door.

Also I had fun sneaking the goblin out of the grove by using turn-based mode and using three party members to distract people. I did fail once and rolled a successful deception, but I (saved a separate file and) reloaded so I could do it the stealth way.

oh my god, Scratch gives you a Summon Familiar ability

BUT I already have one as my main has a bit of a Summoner motif, and that's the only character that gets this free ability. I can't have two familiars out. If another party member was my summoner though I could use this free familiar on my main.

I cry foul play.

Oh can I just manually dig? I was expecting one of those dirt piles to appear like with perception checks.

Yeah not every chest gets one of those.

Some of them are just straight up completely hidden and you have to manually dig to find them. Scratch points those out.

As an aside, if you fail a perception/survival check for one with a mound you can totally just dig where you think it is anyway and get it that way.

I'm reading that long rests can potentially cause some quests to expire, and it's giving me anxiety, lol.

But also you need to long rest at regular intervals to see all the camp scenes. @_@

I just need to learn to accept I will not see everything in the game.

I have the same anxiety

Im definitely missing out on camp scenesIm just hitting act 3, and I think I did one long rest during the entirety of act 2.

in act 2, the bad guys have some prisoners and I was terrified of a Mass Effect 2 situation where Id rest too much and then show up to find characters getting turned to goo or whatever

i did a totally unnecessary extra one after beating the boss just because I felt safe that I wasnt under any time constraint then

AFAIK there is no time limit on overarching objectives just individual quests when its told to you to hurry up.

just found these really cool gloves that give a gnome +2 dexterity

but they dont work. I put them on, the number does not change. I am heartbroken.

You can't go above 20 dex or any stat unless specified.
