Everyone's favorite psychopath narcissist, you know who.

37 charges. Hard evidence of serious crimes being commited. Two lawyers quit on the spot. He might actually die in jail, this is historic. Trump will go down as a bigger crook than Nixon.

Crazy how hard he literally just projects with all his accusations. The whole "stop the steal" thing.

Some people are convinced each new trump indictment or scandal gets him closer to an election victory. That mindset is sad, but I could see it happen. If a billionaire new york real estate developer can actually con millions of laypeople to simp for him, then it kinda makes sense.

I personally could not imagine wanting to vote for a candidate because more indictments are being brought upon them, but some people have absolutely no shame.

Oh and last night I saw like 30 seconds of Fox News(my mom watches it) and the caption at the bottom was "indictments for trump but not Biden or Hillary."

Now, I know little about this stuff, but I assume any moron could see this thing with Trump is obviously different than whatever you think you could nail Clinton or Biden with. Clinton had her e-mail problem and said it's okay if they were released, and Biden had some documents and took the proper steps once uncovered to save his butt.

Like, Trump tries to hide documents, doesnt want to hand them over, shit gets weird, etc. Biden has documents and he immediately hands them over and complies, and people go "why indictments to trump but not biden" like they are at all the same thing.

I also watch little news and hardly pay attention so if any of this is wrong, please let me know.

I believe this to be the reality of the situation, sadly. Do I think he was in the wrong? Yes. Do I think a former President is going to go to jail for holding on to documents? No. Will this kick the grievance machine that powers him into high gear? Yes.

It's sad, but this is a blessing for him.

The only thing he truly could go down for as a former President would be election manipulation (i.e. Georgia) but it seems that won't happen. The best strategy after that is to ignore him, not attack him.

overclassification is a huge issue because there is way too much shit to keep track of, weakening the entire classification audit situation severely (if politicians even care because lol they're auditing themselves basically with the power they have). going by the NPR's numbers, there's probably at least four times as many classified documents as US citizens at the rate they're classifying documents

They barely let Biden answer 30 seconds worth of questions from the press, because they know he'll stumble over his own words. The last thing they want for him is an hour long debate against a competent speaker. DeSantis would tear him apart on a national stage.

To use an analogy, Biden & Pence went through the self checkout, and forgot to scan 1 item. As soon as they realized what they did, they went back to the store and immediately paid for it. Everyone at the store was okay with it.

Trump on the other hand, walked out of the store with a cart full of merchandise, didn't pay for anything, refused to admit what he did, and then the police needed to be sent after him to recover the stolen stuff.

The two circumstances aren't even remotely comparable.

I have seen people talk about that, but even if most of them fall under the banner of irrelevant not all of them do. They're saying nuclear and defense secrets were there, those were justified in their classification. Apparently people forgetting they have documents is actually super common, but no one really cares as long as they do the right thing when they discover it. You only get charged when you intentionally mishandle them, which Trump very clearly did.

No. You're incorrect and have not been following these stories closely enough. The relevant charge is "willful retention." Pence and others, upon finding classified documents in the wrong place, immediately reported them and then invited agencies to go through various locations to look for more. He did not "willfully retain" the documents. Accidentally having classified documentation in the wrong area is not a crime; knowingly keeping it or hiding it or spreading it around is.

Compare: they have RECORDINGS of Trump WAVING THESE DOCUMENTS IN PEOPLE'S FACES GOING "Look at this! This is top secret lmao!" When it was discovered he had hoarded these documents and willingly shared them with people, he TRIED TO RETAIN AND HIDE THEM. There is suspicion that he was SELLING THEM TO FOREIGN AGENTS especially because documents are STILL MISSING, meaning he is at best STILL WILLFULLY RETAINING THEM, and at worst, he GAVE THEM AWAY.

https://apnews.com/article/trump-justice-department-indictment-classified-documents-miami-8315a5b23c18f27083ed64eef21efff3

Donald Trump improperly stored in his Florida estate sensitive documents on nuclear capabilities, repeatedly enlisted aides and lawyers to help him hide records demanded by investigators and cavalierly showed off a Pentagon plan of attack and classified map,

Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this, the indictment quotes him as saying, citing an audio recording. He also said he could have declassified the document but Now I cant, you know, but this is still a secret, according to the indictment.

For instance, prosecutors say, after the Justice Department issued a subpoena for the records in May 2022, Trump asked his own lawyers if he could defy the request and said words to the effect of, I dont want anybody looking through my boxes. Wouldnt it be better if we just told them we dont have anything here? one of his lawyers described him as saying.

As president, I could have declassified them, now I cant, Mr. Trump was recorded saying, according to the person familiar with its contents. He then reiterated something was classified as he and one of the women in the room talked over each other, according to the person familiar with its contents. Isnt that interesting? Its so cool, Mr. Trump said, adding, You probably almost didnt believe me, but now you believe me.

^ He knew they were classified, admitted it on tape, and still did not return them and made attempts to retain/hide them further. We're talking about hundreds of documents, many of which were related to the military/security, that he stuffed in his international party house. Don't be such a fucking tool. Everyone and their mother knows what he was doing/planning to do with these documents.

Yeah and this is a DOJ prosecution, not a for-show senate hearing. This isn't on the same level as the other incidents.

It's a little more than the usual MSNBC "we got em" headline. They have hard evidence of him committing blatant national security crimes, and the entire state wants his head for it. If he was anyone but the president this stuff could just have him disappeared.

Biden and Pence haven't done anything like this. Accidentally possessing confidential intel is one thing, doing that and trying to cover it up, destroy the evidence, and showing it off to guests is another.

Also, this is the guy that lead a violent attack against the US Capitol. You think the state is just going to go "oh well, what are you going to do? He had plausible deniability, mistakes happen"

I always used to think that attorneys really had a very high status in life, that when you had an attorney, that attorneys cant be subpoenaed, they cant be summoned to talk, Mr. Trump told Newsmax in March after Judge Howells ruling. Complaining about how Mr. Corcoran had been compelled to testify in the documents investigation, he said: They bring attorneys in as though theyre, you know, witnesses to a case. It wasnt supposed to be that way.

^ from an article about the evidence in the documents case being tied in-part to notes from one of Trump's own lawyers:

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/11/us/politics/trump-indictment-m-evan-corcoran.html

Really highlights how profoundly ignorant the former President is. He's either incredibly dumb, or his lifetime of privilege has afforded him this sense of superiority where he truly believes there are "rules for thee, but not for me." Or both

Probably both
