A lot of one piece high budget episodes remind of the "high budget" black clover episodes or "good" later season mha episodes where they just have these geometric objects going crazy when the characters do anything.

And like they create a ridiculous amount of space like the characters are running miles to each other when they were like just face to face.

Yes this is a much better way of explaining my issues. Meaningless effects and auras, and completely ignoring the space the fight is occurring in.

That Zoro video early is a great example of just bit clicking, especially because the entire scene woukd have been 1p times better if it was condensed down rkn1t seconds.

Like, honestly, I'll take something like this over the flashy, glowy, drawn out, shitty sound effect Las Vegas looking nonsense any day.

My brother is looking for anime suggestions if anyone can help. He wants a mecha anime, but not one where they jump around or fly a bunch. Like, he's been getting into Battletech/Mechwarrior and he's wondering if there's an anime where the mechas are slow, lumbering and stompy weapons platforms.

I haven't seen many mecha anime myself, and most of them are the jumpy kind like Planet With. Even 86 has the spider mechs running around fast and climbing buildings and such

If we're talking mecha anime for somebody who sounds like they're not big into anime I'll always recommend Code Geass first and foremost, but it's not really slow and lumbering mechs.

I mean it kind of is at the start but it doesn't stay that way at all.

If the realistic mech element is removed, I'd say Code Geass and Eureka Seven are both excellent choices for show with mechs that aren't about mechs. Soap Opera Insanity for the first and Romance Sci-fi Insanity for the second.

How long does Stein's gate take to get going? I've always heard good things about it but the main character seems really annoying so far. Or is it only the games that are good?

I did binge watch Chainsaw Man yesterday and that was really enjoyable. Somehow Power talking like she does is endearing but when the dude in Stein's gate is like that it's just annoying

How far along are you? Because once shit hits the fan the show never stops being amazing.

I'm like 5 episodes in right now.

Stick with it until 11 or 12. These early episodes lull you into thinking not much happens but you'll be glad you paid attention to them because the details will be important later on.

I love all of Steins;Gate, but the second half is certainly why it's come out as my #1 anime.

The plot really takes off about halfway through the anime. But by that point I actively disliked so much of the cast (especially the MC) that I didn't care much about it.

Honestly wish more mangaka would do this after getting a big hit. Some real gems out there that were cut before they could shine!

They're fairly popular. I played the first game and didn't like it. Amusingly, Kara no Shoujo got rejected from Steam years ago. Hope it goes better for them this time.

Actually, it was the second game that got rejected I think. The first one's still on there. Odd.

Are there complaints about the manga art? I don't feel like I've noticed any change there.

And Oda isn't part of the anime art sirection.

Probably unnecessary, but I rewatched both seasons of Love Live! Sunshine!! to get ready for the spin-off next season. Didn't like it as much as the first time. Season 2 in particular was very cheesy in its direction at times, and the chracters' quirks were quite annoying in their abundance. Still enjoyed it, though, and I prefer the dynamic of Aqours to Liella

Now, there's no way I'm going to catch up completely before the start of season 5, but I think I'm going to try and tackle Bungo Stray Dogs

nah OVAs can be specials of almost any form (as long as it's a one-off non-feature length production) really. there may be a distinction with movies but there really isn't much stopping most anime short films from being also classed as OVAs tbh. by anime standards i suppose the bar is usually set at approximately an hour so anything less than that can probably be safely be defined as this, and it's more often seen applied to pre-established series like this. they really do get theatrical runs fairly often, albeit ones much more limited in scope

the only real line to actually draw is with dvd specials and the like, since those are usually tied to specific anime season productions they can't necessarily be considered OVAs

It's definitely changed over time. I don't think it's bad necessarily but maybe we don't know what we're missing out on. He said it was effecting his work.

boy season 5 sucked. I'll chalk it up to covid I guess but the animation was just bad. season 6 was good though.

Season 5 was just a bad part of the series

They dragged out the worse part about it and sped through the better part too.
