Katana is not typically a Suicide Squad character. Her being in that first shitty movie was wierd.

I'm not gonna even humor us getting the Gail Simone dream team, but...Boomerang, King Shark, Deadshot (that shitty looking Rocksteady game got the picks right at least)....not The Joker, but I assume he isn't actually part of the squad here and it's just setup.

Caught up on Boruto manga before it went on hiatus back in April

Pretty much at the point where there's going to be a time skip now and this is the transition like the original series had from Naruto to Naruto shippuden. Although Boruto has far bigger problems to deal with than Naruto did at this point in his life

Also he's already lost an eyeball so I fully expect him to get a Sharingan implant from Uncle Sasuke

Episodes 1-976

After School Insomniacs: this had a few good ideas, but it kinda fell short of what it feels it should've been. They don't focus that much on the insomnia, which might be the most interesting part, and the cast isn't so great. The main highlight is when the two MCs are with each other, so the second half was somewhat stronger, but the final episode was a bit of a letdown. I've heard the manga's quite a bit better here.

Tonikaku Kawaii S2 is about as good as S1 I think. Still slow with progress, still pretty cute, still a solid side cast with some fun additions this season (and Kyuma, who sucks). I enjoyed it a little less than S1 since it isn't as fresh, but I'll still check out the mini-season that's starting soon.

Birdie Wing S2 was a bit of a step down from S1, thanks to some silly illness drama and the elimination of yuri. Most of the season is still great thankfully, with lots of ridiculously over the top golf, mafia antics, and bizarrely complex backstories from the two MCs. It's a shame the end was a little rushed; I think it was intentional, but it would've been nice to have another episode to finish up and finally give us what we've been wanting all this time.

Oshi no Ko basically lived up to the hype. Great show from start to finish, though I knew several of the twists going in. Great animation and direction, and Aqua's an awesome protagonist. Even the idol stuff managed not to rub me the wrong way too much; thankfully there's not a lot of it, though I'd probably prefer the manga version for that stuff. The last couple episodes don't focus on Aqua as much, so they're not as good, but his sequences are still great, and some of the other characters, like Kana, are pretty cool too.

i absolutely must know what people think of the animation in The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

I am more than used to dunking on Go Hands for their fucking awful aesthetic, but the PV for the Glasses show seemed...strong?? There were some dumb tracking shots but....we'll see.

They're also doing another show this season about a giant cat that also had a decent looking PV.

Don't want to live in a world where Go Hands isn't a laughing stock.

So I just decided to peruse reactions and people seem to be saying this is their WORST looking show to date? I don't understand...how that's possible??

I have to watch this as soon as I can....

Wow, I was not expecting to enjoy Jujutsu Kaisen as much as I did, and didn't think I would finish it and the movie before S2. Being horror-adjacent and the whole "eating fingers" thing had turned me off to it when it originally aired, but it was really cool, looked great, and I really liked the cast, especially Yuuji and Todo. Minor gripe: the exposition was a bit too prominent and disturbed the flow at times.

Besides that, I've kind of fallen off of anime. I have quite a few Spring shows that I haven't finished, and only 1 Summer show that I've started. What I have finished:

My Clueless First Friend - Very one-note about a girl who gets bullied by practically her entire class and the transfer student that turns her school life around, but I loved it for how adorable it is.

Yuri Is My Job - Loved the drama between HIme and Mitsuki and how that concluded. Didn't like the Kanoko drama as much, though Sumika's development was good. And, unfortunately, it doesn't really get to the yuri.

Hell's Paradise - Good action and interesting/brutal setting. Characters are only okay for the most part. I think Shion, Tenza, and Choubei were standouts. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the endless inner thoughts during combat after nitpicking the exposition in JJK. It's very noticeable and pretty annoying. Still, looking forward to S2

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - Pretty good until the end. Can't believe Guel ended up being the best character after that first episode of S1. I like SuleMio, too, I just wish we got more of them together. Middle of the road Gundam for me.

Alice Gear Aegis Expansion - Cute girl comedy show where the girls from the mobile game are put in ridiculous situations (until the end, when the show gets serious). Not particularly good or funny, but the main character gets frequent nosebleeds for her idol, which was more than enough for me.

World Dai Star - All-girl acting troupe puts on performances with their supernatural gifts and try to become stars. Seen people compare it Revue Starlight, but it doesn't have an annoying Hikari character and isn't one big metaphor, so I actually liked it. Wasn't a huge fan of the ending though.

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear Punch - Not as good as S1 but still pretty cute.

My Love Story with Yamada at Level 999 - Pretty meh. Akane is fine and pretty good when she is playing the game and interacting with anyone not named Yamada. For his part, Yamada is hot and caring but pretty boring. I didn't care too much for him, and I especially hated the drama they shoehorned into the end, and I just wasn't much invested in the main pair getting together. I became more interested in potential side ships, which ultimately just left me disappointed.

I decided to watch The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses because its animation was name dropped and I've got to say this animation looks so fucking weird.

I don't know what it is but it is offputting to me. Maybe the angles? They really do a lot of fancy angles in this but they are inconsistent and jarring.

And the walking is weird as fuck.

This season does not have a lot for me. Mushoku Tensei S2 is a definite watch, but beyond that...I guess AI no Idenshi and Liar Liar look like they could be decent? Liar Liar is not exactly the show you want be eyeing as one of the strongest candidates in a season though.

I haven't seen Jujutsu Kaisen but am reasonably confident I would not like it.

Battle shounen is not a genre I'm especially drawn to, and I actively dislike the aesthetic of the show. Either of those isn't necessarily a deal breaker, but combined it makes it pretty unlikely that I'm ever going to check the show out.

Oh, well a few months ago a chapter dropped that changed the manga completely.

Although I disagree with that take on the manga.

I basically hate everything after the Maki arc, and I am certainly not alone in that take! Probably one of the single biggest quality drops I've ever experienced in a manga across the board. It became basically incomprehensible, and there were some chapters I read back to back multiple times before just saying fuck this and giving up.

The moment where I gave up entirely and dropped was when Sukuna took over Megumi, and it was the most limp, unimpactful event in the manga thus far, even though it should have been an enormous, shocking twist. It was such an awful execution I lost all hope. If it's gotten better since then, that's great, but I just don't know if I can do it.

The only one I can think of that fell as much was D.Gray-man, I think.

I did like the fight with the lawyer, though.

I think season 3 is going to be meh and then season 4, at least to my eyes as of the moment, is going to be back to good.

I guess mileage may vary but I have been loving the past 2 months of chapters.

Finished Oshi no Ko.

Solidly good show, though it's hard not to be disappointed after how much the community raved about it. Kana is the best character by a lot, at least so far.

I would like Akane decently if the writers didn't destroy the cohesion of her character for the sake of sending a ham-fisted message.

I don't understand anything in this post.

I just don't buy that (Oshi no Ko) people driven to the point of suicide by their work are going to return to said work within what feels like a relatively short amount of time with no obvious repurcussions

Though, I guess to be fair even you agree with that analysis it seems to suggest that the problem is in the mishandling of the aftermath, not making the decision to write that plotline in the first place (as implied by post #281, probably wrongly).

I don't agree it was mishandled or unrealistic. It was effectively a different work by the time she returned. Aqua and the rest of the cast had banded together to release the behind the scenes footage to clear her name and massively sway public opinion. She felt she had the full support of the rest of the teen actors to have her back during filming sessions (and especially felt a great sense of duty and gratitude for Aqua). Additionally, she learned to compartmentalize her personal self from her acting self, which was the last piece of development she needed to truly become a genius actress with no parallel. Plus, they also did portray the stress she felt toward needing to make a big splash on the show, uphold her contract for her agency/agent, etc.

But even beyond that, she was a young teenager with very little life experience outside of acting on stage. Teenage girls can realistically have big emotions, and no outlet or ability to put things into perspective. The suicide attempt wasn't carefully planned out for weeks, it was a spontaneous and emotional moment of crushing isolation, and that emotional pendulum swings right back in the other direction once she's safe. She felt completely alone with a huge burden to support her family and her agency all by herself, and simply knowing that she isn't alone in all of this could be a direct paradigm shift to change things as instantaneously as she decided to end it all.

The show has an interesting concept when they don't center episodes around panty theft. Though I wonder how much they can get away with a main character like Ayanokoji without it being aggravating.

Yeah like some of the stuff in season 1 was icky but then season 2 was like full on psychological intrigue mostly.

I dont know how to feel about ayanokoji as so far he is for sure Gary stu like but I feel like his lack of emotions are such an interesting flaw and the antagonists are so hateable so far that he isn't close to wearing out his welcome.

I liked Classroom of the Elite but wouldn't say that I loved it. The light novels seem like they have the potential to be a lot better.

Ayanokouji was definitely my favorite part.

I'm trying out something called A Lull in the Sea. It seems like typical rom com slice of life fare, but the setting and visuals adds a cool dynamic at least. I'm only an episode in, so I'm not sure what to expect.

I liked that show a lot; I'd describe it more as drama than as slice-of-life though.

The CotE LNs are definitely much better than the anime, though I don't love them like some people do. Ayanokouji's a bit of a Mary Sue for sure, and so are the villains.

Oh that's awesome. I read that earlier this year and it was great.

With Jujutsu Kaisen finished, I needed a new off-season anime, and with some of the discourse surrounding Witch from Mercury, I figured I'd watch a "good" mecha and picked up Aldnoah.Zero. Firstly, I dislike just about every character in the show, particularly the two leads, Inaho and Slaine. They've got some parallels to Lelouch and Suzaku from Code Geass, respectively, except Inaho is an emotionless robot with negative charisma and Slaine is a dumbass. So often characters would just make dumb decisions, and by the end of S1, I just wanted to beat my head against the wall. I didn't make it much further into the series though, as I dropped it 2 scenes into S2 where some of the girls are on leave, lounging on the beach in bikinis. But hey, people (unnamed mooks, mostly) die, so the show has the stakes that people complaining about G-Witch wanted so badly.

Gonna pivot to a show I've already seen that I know I'll like, and watch Soul Eater NOT
