I read the first chapter a while back so it's in my queue, and yeah it's....it's quite the start!

It's also getting a 90 minute premier. Dunno if that's slot time for 3 episodes or actual length, but either way that's basically starting with a movie.

I just got back from a vacation, so I'm way behind on everything from this season. I'll still probably do my usual write-ups for upcoming shows sometime this week, and hopefully I finish the currently airing shows in time to give them a ranking near the end of the season.

Since I was visiting someone far more versed in pirating than I am, I also now have several shows that aren't available on streaming! In particular, I got Planetes, Kamichu, AKB0048, and the first three seasons of Hell Girl (S4 is the only one on Crunchyroll for some reason). I've always wanted to watch all of those, so I'm excited to finally have the chance.

He basically had to, since he was still doing Kaguya for the first couple years of it.

Anyways, Oshi No Ko is more consistently good than Kaguya, and more importantly for a lot of people here it's not a romcom. It doesn't have nearly the lows. It doesn't have quite the highs either, but I'd rate it marginally better overall.

Finished Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. Really liked it. Very cute and relaxed. Looking forward to season 2 in a couple weeks.

Started rewatching Mix: Meisei Story. As good as I remember, if a bit goofier

For Hell Girl, I recommend watching it slowly if you can? It's an extremely formulaic show. Of course, I went through it pretty fast anyway, so I'm not really one to talk...

I don't have any drive to watch Ancient Magus Bride's new season and I don't know why.

I didn't get farther than the show in any source material or anything. It's just...some spark is not there?

Time for some quick write-ups about upcoming Spring 2023 anime! As always, I'm only doing new shows (no sequels), and this is based solely on their MAL descriptions. Starting with least members on MAL, I'll do ten per day.

Tousouchuu: Great Mission
The description for this talked about anime exclusive content it will have, which makes me think this is a franchise I've simply never heard of. Other than that, all it says is it takes place on the moon. Meh.

World Dai Star
This had no information, but it looks like a generic idol anime. I'm always down for a generic idol anime, so I'll probably watch this. I'm not excited about it, though.

Opus.COLORs
The description for this was mostly just confusing. It's about Perception Art, but what the hell is that? I'll skip this unless it gets good buzz from other people.

Kizuna no Allele
This is a Kizuna Ai anime. I remember she was a big thing and helped kick off the wave of virtual personalities, but I swear I haven't heard about Kizuna Ai herself in years. Then again, I'm not remotely into the Vtuber trend. In any case, the anime is about her disappearance and the search for a replacement, so maybe she has gone away. In any case, I'm not a Kizuna Ai fan, so I'll probably skip this.

Rokudou no Akujo
Bullied outcast guy gets a magical power to win the hearts of delinquent girls. The art style in the MAL image looked neat, but the premise sounds gross so I'll skip this one.

Otaku Elf
A shrine maiden works for an otaku elf. You know what, this sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I'm sold.

The Marginal Service

Too Cute Crisis
An alien decides not to destroy Earth after visiting a cat caf. I have no idea how this premise will work as a full show, but it's a cute idea so I'm willing to give it a shot.

What God Does in a World Without Gods
A guy sacrificed by a cult is reborn in another world, then he's killed again but reincarnated and... I dunno, this whole premise just sounds confusing and lame.

Magical Girl Magical Destroyers
A mysterious force is destroying otaku culture, but a group of magical girls are fighting back against it! This is the exact same premise as Pastel Memories, but I thought that anime was fine so I guess I'll check this out too.

What more do you need to know than that picture? The cast members have great names in general. Robin Timbert? Brian Nightraider? Hell yeah. I'm guessing it's about a construction company whose workers are secretly superheroes.

But yeah Otaku Elf and Magical Destroyers could be fun. Too Cute Crisis sounds good, but there's a guy as an important character, so I dunno... The God in that Gods anime has a great design. Not sure what the show itself will be like.

Oh Dead Mount Death Play is Narita AKA Baccano/Durarara.

Now I'm torn between watching or jumping in on the manga.

I'll try watching it as the manga isn't bad or anything, but I don't think it has nearly the style or charm of Baccano or Durarara.

They better do a stylish OP with the character names zooming by though, it's traditional.

I've been watching Baccano clips for the last hour and am once again torn as to whether Steins;Gate or Baccano has my #1 anime spot.

God I love this show.

it's within the realm of possibility that i'll actually finish more than 10% of the shows i start this season for the first time in a while, shame it's mostly isekais (somehow at 8+ eps done on 16 shows and haven't dropped 5 others)

took a peek at next season and am surprised there's actually two vtuber anime next season. honestly the non-kizuna one definitely caught my attention largely because i'm not really sure how it happened. shishigami leona (a single member of re:act) and 4 indie vtubers totally unassociated with that company who i've seen before and know generally don't get 100 viewers on average (one i think barely averages 10). really not sure how an anime pitch could've happened let alone gone ahead even if it's a short series

besides that guess i'll have a look at the alice gear aegis thing, magus 2, megumin, the band one, the insomnia thing and tengoku whatever... and whatever else seems decent when the season starts

So...the recent one a few years ago was really bad? Cause I'm not liking how you're describing this.

I was a huuuuge fan of the Orphen anime from the 90s, and was very excited for the new one. Then it came out and was awful.

Now it's on season 4 of the new series I think? Only thing that needs to be put down more are the new Tenchi shows. I guess maybe it could be a Kingdom situation where it gets way better after the first season, but I have no interest in suffering through it to find out.

The Caf Terrace and Its Goddesses
A show about a guy inheriting a rundown caf, as well as a harem of sexy ladies. I might watch this just because the caf setting could be nice, but I'll still wait and see what kind of reaction this gets before adding it to my list. Most harem shows are awful.

Ao no Orchestra
A moody guy needs to teach a girl how to play violin. I'm usually a fan of music anime, so I guess I'll check this out, but this sounds like it'll have a lot of character melodrama so I'm not optimistic about it.

Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
A young girl is sent to a beast king as a sacrifice, but she ends up slowly winning him over instead. This is the kind of premise which can either be cute or creepy depending on how they handle the iffy situation and power imbalance. Still, I'll give it a shot.

My One-Hit Kill Sister
An anime that's both an isekai and has a creepy bro-con sister, oh boy. She also has OHKO powers, so this entire show will have zero tension. I'm going to skip this.

Yuri is My Job
A go-getter girl is forced to take a job at a girls-only caf. MAL lists this as a comedy, so I suppose I'll check it out. That premise feels a bit thin, though.

The Aristocrat's Otherworldly Adventure
Another boring isekai with an absurdly overpowered protagonist. Luckily, there have been enough interesting shows that I won't feel compelled to watch this junk.

The Legendary Hero is Dead
The fated hero is mistakenly killed by a farmer, so a necromancer moves the farmer's soul into the corpse to continue the hero's quest. That's an interesting idea at least, so I guess I'll check this out. I'm not a fan of the farmer's only listed character trait being "perverted", though.

Death Mount Death Play
Just before losing the final battle, the big bad guy used magic to reincarnate himself on another world. I feel like this could be a good idea, but I'm just not desperate enough to add an isekai to my list yet. I'll wait and see what kind of reception this gets.

Skip and Loafer
Overachieving girl befriends slacker guy. That's kind of a typical premise, so much so that I can't think of anything else to say about it. It's by PA Works, though, so I guess I'll check it out.

The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion
Girl gets isekai'd into a book she read as a character who is meant to die, but she tries to change her fate. I'm obviously not a big isekai fan, but the literary angle of trying to overthrow a written story is always a neat idea. I'll give this a shot.

I finished The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague. I thought it was a nice anime. The main couple was always really cute together, and it was great seeing two stoic adults slowly grow closer. It was very slow-paced, but I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. My only real complaint is that, with the amount of chemistry they clearly had together, it was kind of lame that their relationship didn't move faster or further. Still, I enjoyed this show a lot.

King of the season easily. Definitely feels like they're putting their foot down on no season 2 though which is a shame.

Also I appreciate that the only time in this entire series where it being an Isekai ever even comes up is to address the one aspect of Reincarnation Isekai that always really bothers me.

Heavenly Delusion
Kids are raised by robots in some sort of post-apocalyptic hellscape. The description for this didn't give me a good picture of what the show will actually be like, but I'm always down for a hellscape. I'll check it out.

My Home Hero
A guy kills a thug threatening his daughter and now needs to try to get away with the murder. This sounds like it could be really good, so I'll definitely check it out.

A Galaxy Next Door
A manga artist randomly gets a beautiful girl to fix up his life and marry him, ugh. I hate shows like this. They always feel like some lonely manga artist is writing their own wish-fulfillment romance.

The Dangers in My Heart
A kid with murderous desires winds up growing closer to the popular girl who he fantasizes about killing. Uh, I'll give this one points for having an eye-catching premise, but I find this idea incredibly off-putting.

Summoned to Another World for a Second Time
An isekai so nice, they did it twice. I already don't remember what this animes premise actually was. All I know is that I won't be watching it.

Insomniacs After School
Two teens begin meeting in an observatory at night and they start growing closer. Not the craziest premise, but it sounds like something I'd really enjoy.

Loving Yamada at Lv 999
A girl falls for an unsociable guy she meets in a video game. Much like that manga one from earlier, this sounds like shitty wish-fulfillment from a writer who imagines sexy ladies throwing themselves at him because he's good at the video games.

Mashle
A guy who is seriously named Mash Burnedead goes to a magic academy despite having no magic, and he plans to use his FISTS to fight his way through every challenge. This will either be amazing or terrible. For the moment, I'm going to wait and see what kind of reception it gets.

Oshi no Ko
A doctor is reborn as the baby of his favorite idol. It's hard to put into words, but this premise really creeps me out. It feels like a flimsy setup for a bunch of mommy fetish stuff.

Hell's Paradise
An assassin who is apparently unkillable is taken on an expedition to a freaky island. This actually sounds like an awesome and unique idea, and it is easily the upcoming anime I'm most excited for.

I read the first couple chapters thinking I would love it and I couldn't get into it.

It's basically "what if Saitama went to magic school and is also one of the only people in the world without magic."

He literally just punches magic spells away.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that reaction to Oshi no Ko. Even knowing that it's by the Kaguya-sama author I don't want to go anywhere near the series.

I look forward to you both eating your words then.

My understanding is that it's a very misleading premise and the series is practically a horror, and a damning takedown of the entertainment industry.

It's not. Don't worry about that.

It is, however, the same author as Kaguya-sama which IIRC you didn't really care for, so you may be inclined to skip it anyways. It's generally a lot less comedy and more serious, but it's definitely not what you took away from the premise.

Oshi no Ko sounds more interesting in that case. My big complaint about Heroines Run the Show from last year was that it wasn't a damning takedown of the entertainment industry even though it really should've been.

Damning takedowns of the entertainment industry have also historically made for mediocre anime imo, though I do believe you are correct that the premise is misleading.

I already know enough about how much the idol industry sucks without needing a series that just points it all out.

I just know that I googled image searched the manga a few months ago, and saw a lot of page thumbnails that had a lot of blood in them, and quickly left before I regretted spoiling myself on something lol.

No, it's cute and there's a nice story about people making friends through gaming in there. You know, I kind of wish you wouldn't judge things based on these weird misconceptions in the first place.

I'm always up front with the fact that I'm basing these opinions on the MAL descriptions and nothing else. MAL descriptions can be surprisingly terrible too. I still remember the pre-airing description for Lycoris Recoil made it sound goofy and specifically mentioned zombies as one of the things the cafe would help people with. That wasn't what the show was about at all!

As for Yamada: "Yamada is unsociable and curt, hardly the type of person to make Akane swoon."

I can't help it if that gives me bad vibes. Makes me think of My Little Monster, one of the worst anime ever.

Finished my first show of the season, The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady, and I loved it. It is very dramatic (of the royal political variety), and I wouldn't call it "fun", but it does have a few solid action setpieces and great yuri. G-Witch and LycoReco were good, but this is what I wanted to relationships of those leads to look like. If I had 1 complaint, it would be that it needed more Ilia x Lainie. That 1 moment was amazing, but it left me wanting more.

You should at least give it a chance and watch the TRIPLE LENGTH first episode. I mean, I'm not, but you should

*quadruple length

Is it 90 minutes if airtime or 90 minutes of slot time?

Because yeah that'll be the difference between triple or quadruple.

Wouldnt that just mean it ends up being like 8 episodes?
