I thought the show was good but not great. Feelings are largely positive and I loved the relationship between the main 2 characters, but I think the dramatic parts of the show didn't always land the way they were trying to. Most notably I think the plot centered on the throne missed frequently. Algard was just a very mishandled character overall, and the show never really sold me on the fact that Anis cared about being queen until suddenly it was supposed to be a huge deal.

Every time a new show gets announced with a concrete launch date and I'm still waiting for Goblin Slayer Season 2 premiere announcement, ffffffffffffffff-

Like the Spring's all spoken for so "2023" means the Fall by default, or delay to 2024??? Might as well delay after all this time, come on!!!

God I love this show.

I remember lol'ing when I watched that and did so again now. Surely the kind of magic a dub couldn't capture!

I need to start watching Steins;Gate within next two weeks (to see if I like it and then save it in SMFAS endgame, lol), never enough time to get started... I'll report back on my thoughts when it's underway and/or complete. Expectations are sky high but I recall we discussed that before, I feel like I'll like it though!

It's great in the dub too! Baccano has one of the best original VA casts AND one of the best dubs around, really mealing that early 1900s America feel.

Similarly, you can't go wrong with sub or dub for Steins;Gate either.

However both of these series also have scenes in Japanese where the characters are speaking English that are just a shame to miss, lol.

I have seen a bit of the Oshi no Ko manga and think it's a good series. Then again I like Kaguya so what do I even know

I just realized....they never dubbed beyond Axess.

Some episode counts coming out of Disney+, noteable tidbits.

Oshi No Ko listed as 11 episode, a note made that the 90 minute episode 1 is indeed just 1 episode, bringing the "equivilant" episode count to 14.

Most curious, Witch from Mercury S2 is listed as 25 episodes. Unclear as of yet if this is a listing error meant to include the whole series or if the season about to air is indeed 2 cours.

Ascendance of a Bookworm covers that pretty quick!

Finished a few Winter series, so writeups begin:

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady was pretty good stuff! The whole first arc (first five eps) was great, and the second arc was solid, handling Algard a bit better than I expected considering how annoying he was early on. The third arc was bad all around though - none of the drama around Anis wanting to do her duty as a princess or the horrors of being immortal was compelling in the slightest. Show's lucky the final episode followed that up with a great ending!

My Life As Inukai-san's Dog - going from comments, this sadly cut some of the more over the top fanservice from the manga, but it was still mostly fun. 3 of the 4 main girls were good characters, though sadly the best one was introduced last and had the least screentime. Certainly would've been a better show without the lame girl, and I'm not sure if being so plot-focused rather than episodic was a good idea.

Onimai: Now I'm Your Sister! felt like it fell short of potential to me. It's mostly just a cute girl SoL, which I dig in general, but I didn't love the cast. The animation being godlike was the strongest aspect, of course. I don't think the main gimmick (MC being turned into a girl) added that much to the show in general, but it did give us some fun scenes. Solid, but not really all that special.

The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague - dropped this one. Had a decent cast, but was just too repetitive, giving us the same joke about Himuro freezing stuff over and over, and the pace was too slow (looking at what happened later on, their relationship is less close in the final episode than it was in episode 3, amusingly enough).

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV Part 2 was a bit of a letdown. S4P1 is the best season of the show, and this is basically a follow-up to that, so it could've been great, but it's just too slow. There's a lot of episodes where nothing happens, and the show really falls into the trap of "let's make the show get really dark, but none of the main characters can die so there's no actual dramatic tension." Ryu also not so great as a character.

Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible is a show I haven't decided if I'll watch when it comes back from hiatus (hopefully I won't, but I might fall prey to temptation). It looks quite nice, and Kana Hanazawa's voice is great, but other than that it's quite poor. The "teasing" in this teasing girl is painfully light, and the MC is a 100% uninteresting vanilla loser. He has a gimmick to make him stand out, but that gimmick sucks and isn't used for anything funny. Neither the romance nor the comedy are that good.

I finished Farming Life in Another World. I've never been a huge isekai fan, but I've played enough Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley that I guess a farming gimmick can lure me in despite myself. I still went into this with low expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. There was something soothing about watching a dude just plant crops and improve infrastructure. He also got a truly absurd amount of sexy ladies to move into the growing village. I'm not usually a harem fan either, but Farming Life handled it in a way I liked. Main dude wasn't a pervert at all, and he even had an official love interest, so there weren't any weird moments or drama. In fact, there wasn't much conflict in this at all. It was just a relaxing anime the whole way through. It really did feel like watching a chill playthrough of Stardew Valley. Obviously it wasn't amazing or anime of the season or anything like that, but Farming Life was surprisingly decent.

Could be! I can't even imagine the production quality of a Studio Orange movie at this point, the animation in that last episode was better than the CG of any anime film released to date as it it.

Idk man mha doesn't do it for me. It has a lot of great core concepts but it just handles everything in very tired ways.

I don't think I could force myself to watch MHA at this point, which is a shame because I'm pretty sure that last season covered the last time I really liked it! When I'm down on the manga it's hard for me to watch the anime though, just how I've always been wired.

Like....I severely doubt I'm going to watch the Shibuya Arc for JJK event though it's excellent because I just can't look at JJK right now.

For MHA, now I'm just sitting here annoyed that it's still hogging up Bones resources.

I haven't been watching the MHA anime, but I think they just covered basically the last thing I liked in the manga.

Somehow the manga is still going on--I swear it could have just ended any chapter when I stopped reading like a year ago so I guess I made the right choice.

Finished some shows

Blue Lock - This was a consistently great sports series. I do actually wish we got a bit of insight into the matches that didn't involve Isagi, but I guess I can't complain too much since Isagi is great and all the matches we did get were fun. Also the content for season 2 looks very exciting.

Trails of Cold Steel Northern War - This was...fine....maybe? If you're a fan of the series looking for more Trails things then this is probably serviceable, I can't imagine anyone else enjoying it though. Last episode was an absolute mess but for the most part I liked watching the show despite its inconsistencies.

Technically still 3 episodes left here because of delays, but since it's the end of the anime season I'll just say that Bofuri season 2 is definitely more of Bofuri and is good fun.

I have not watched the Sky OVA but the Northern War anime was easily better than the community acts like the Sky OVA was. I don't necessarily know what interpretation to draw from that though.

I will say that specifically in the area of battle scene animation the Northern War anime was an unmitigated disaster. That just isn't what I prioritize in anime, but I suppose a lot of people do.

Mushoku S2 was announced last year. This is just a date announcement.

I finished Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement. This was another isekai that was surprisingly decent. Mitsuha was a fun character, and I enjoyed watching her find creative ways to use her world-hopping power. Unlike most isekai, she could still return to Earth any time she wanted to, and she used that to go full capitalism on the fantasy world's economy. As far as isekai go, my favorites are the ones that explore a creative idea as opposed to being some generic power fantasy or whatever, and Saving 80,000 Gold definitely explored a creative idea!

Yeah you're probably right, and I keep thinking about "Spring" and forgetting "Summer" could be in play, and they wouldn't want to commit to that in case it's delayed to Fall. Well they said "2023" again at least, so that's something (on top of being a nice visual)
