What's this, another ranking? And not just one list, but two!

Both myself and Maniac have been following along, and now it is our turn. We will each have our own separate lists based on the characters that been ranked in the prior seven lists. Lists based on lists, rankings influenced by rankings!

I'll start with a little bit of semi-relevant background on myself, since I'm not involved with the campaign aside from being an observer.

Superheroes are awesome, and personally Ive always preferred DCs lineup. Only recently have I dove into some actual comics thanks to my local library, but I grew up with Batman: TAS, Teen Titans, Justice League/Unlimited, and later Young Justice as some of my favorite animated shows (Harley Quinn is on my need to watch list). The Arkham games also rock, hopefully that Suicide Squad game turns out alright. Suffice it to say, Ive known quite a few of these characters already, but a lot more of them have been completely new to me, which is fantastic.

Id also like to thank Scarlet, as well as all the players who have done their own lists or even just shared their experiences thus far. These topics have been a fantastic read, and Ive enjoyed getting a peek into your impressively-massive campaign. I hope you beat Darkseid and stuff!

Additionally, please correct us on any inaccuracies or anything outdated in our writeups. Given the nature of writing about an ongoing campaign from an outsiders perspective, it is only natural that mistakes will be made.

Maniac will be starting things off for us with writeups on the PCs from the campaigns, based entirely on his memory. From there, we'll mostly alternate posting rankings from our lists back and forth. You know the drill, just double the fun!

Anyway, that's enough outta me for now. I'll leave you off with my first hint.

Cody Hint #52: Im cheating in that this character wasnt actually ranked by anyone, until now!

Hello everyone! Thank you for the excellent rankings, they have been a really fun read!

Unlike Cody I am a Marvel guy. Most my DC knowledge comes from the cartoons and the early CW shows. Or stuff I've learned from friends. The only things I've really read from DC are some of Geoff John's GL, some of the big Batman stories (including no man's land), a few issues of Superman, and Infinite Crisis. So I did not know most of the people on these lists before and I have tried to separate my opinion of the originals (so no Larfleeze in the top 10 just because someone mentioned him in a topic and I love him).

The other topics start with a bio on the player's character(s), and this idea of me doing a ranking came after I hilariously messed up some PC info, so I figured I might as well start with PC bios. And you can get a taste for how good my memory is for what is to come.

C1 PCs
Artemis - A talking little dog that can change size after being experimented on by Man Bat
Fastbreak - He is a lightning powered former basketball player and gothem native who looks up to the bat family
Fields - He is a twin with Trish, grew up with and dated Oracle, and played piano for the Penguin
Obrov - A big muscular monster of a man with a bag over his head (it might have just been a mask)
Spirit - This is the youngest human party member with healing powers
Taliesin - This guy is a magician. That's all I remember but hey its better than last time.
Tali - Somehow not short for Taliesin. This is an Egyptian fire lady (princess?) who gets married in the campaign and dies between them.
Varra - She is a mom whose kid will become important later and a member of the league of assassins

C2 PCs
Bloodfruit - She is a Faerie who got booted out of the Fae lands by Titania and lost her name and hair at the time. Has mood ring skin and magical blood that can be sold for a good price
Brennus - The son of Varra who is trying to find his missing mom, he is gay and in love with Freddy. Oh and he can cast magical spells like summoning turtles
Data-7 - The other name for Artemis the talking dog. Data has grown and gotten more serious and the name change is the proof. Though sometimes Artemis still comes out to play
Lush - Can control plants, she is a former villain turned hero in part because Zatanna messed with her mind (oops). BFFs and lovers with Saorise
Minerva - An teenage Atlantean girl who idolizes Aquaman (and why wouldn't you)
Pepper Spray - A teenager who can chemically alter the liquids that come from her body. She has tried to make a teenage hero team in Zonn Zorr
Rozetta Stone - A Red Martian whose real name is Ro'zetta. She can understand all languages along with the standard Martian powers
Saorise - An Irish lass with a living harry potter wand and a variety of spells. She has had a number of romantic (or at least physical) relationships in the campaign and is BFFs/lovers with Lush
Silhouette - This guy is like Tokoyami from MHA if his Shadow version was a separate entity that he could switch his consciousness to. Its name is Nihkto (sp)
Spirit - Same character from campaign 1. He is a doctor at Zonn Zorr now
Taliesin - Same dude form C1 but now has the distinction of being the only PC killed in a session
Xander - Fastbreak but using his real name and now he is active in politics

Since you asked for corrections, Roz'etta was C1 and C2, not Taliesin, and Red Martian is...technically correct, as Saturnians are descended from Martians.

You're also missing Riev Bauker, the sniper from campaign 1. He JUST returned in Campaign 2 as well, a scant few sessions ago.

Also, Taliesin isn't actually a "magician", so to speak. He had illusion based powers and could summon a knife, but he didn't quite fit the bill to be called a "magician", I don't think.

Also Minerva is not in her teenage years anymore (maybe we would know about Minerva and Riev had Wickle does a list :P ).

ALSO ALSO not that this would have come up necessarily, but Taliesin is just the only perma-death PC. Silhouette died in a session recently, but with Crime Doctor being involved with the session, he was allowed to stay alive, but he had to switch places with his shadow, so now that player is playing Nikhto. Roz'etta would tell you she's died before. And Obrov killed himself in a session to be sent to Hell (bring a Get-Out-Of-Hell Free Card) so that he could tell Lords of Hell that the Demons Three were breaking rules in Gotham. It was a fantastic sequence with him having to ONLY say one phrase before death and it was the only phrase he could say after death, which was a long explanation that ended with a "fuck yeah!". He also had to give up one song from his recollection and ability to perceive - he wanted it to be "Mmm Bop" but it ended up being something else.

Guessing Joe Hollywood.

Oh, yes, wow, I'm bad. The other PC you didn't get to experience (maybe if Hombad would do a list!) was Jack Davison, called Ghost, who is now a real ghost, because he gave his life to reform Spirit's leg after it got eaten by cannibalism (and possibly the Greensleeves).

Jack then was attached to Spirit and basically haunted him. Oracle didn't believe Spirit until Constantine was called in to reveal the form of Jack.

Later on, Trish took a Jimmy Olsen Robot made by Lex and turned it into a habitable body, and then Constantine got Jack into the body. Ergo, Spirit's older brother is literally a ghost in the shell - a Jimmy Olsen shell.

52. Batman (Harvey Dent)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/1/1/AAQKElAAEHHP.png

This campaign is bonkers, it has so many characters. For my list I limited myself to characters who were actually ranked by someone else (thanks Han for that ongoing spreadsheet), with one exception.

I started lurking the first ranking topic way back when, no context to the campaign, but I liked DC so why not follow along? I dont remember exactly what led to it, but one of the discussions or write ups mentioned that Batman was missing, and that in the meantime Harvey Dent had taken the mantle. Come again? That got me to break out of my shell andparticipate in the topic (gasp!). Someone was kind enough to give an explanation, and shared the above photo, which is just the sickest thing ever. He looks so cool.

At this point Im not sure if Harv has made a physical appearance in campaign 2. I dont believe he had as of last summer, and if he did it was very brief. But he was my gateway into following along with all these rankings, so he has a special place in my list. Hopefully hes not being a completely terrible Batman.

Ol' Harv has in fact made physical appearances, and while he isn't a perfect Batman, he knows Batman needs a Batfamily, listens to Oracle well-enough, and his coin is fine as opposed to the Two-Faceness of it, so...it'll have to do.

Plus it puts him against Gordon who is under the control of Darkseid because of course Dent and Gordon are opposed.

Gonna go with Squeak here.

What you may not know about Harvey Dent is that, at the moment, he is the glue holding the entire Gotham Underground together. He's taken up the symbolism of the Dark Knight, and that alone redefines the nature of a Gotham that remains under the thumb of the totalitarian Simon Hurt. Ironically enough, Two-Face may be, to the city, the biggest source of hope there is to fight back chaotically against the forces attempting to instill total, uncompromising order.

52. The Spectre

One of the strongest people in DC is one of the biggest antagonists of the campaign. The Sprit of Vengeance has turned his wrath against all magic users for some reason. Much of them are now in hiding in one of two magically protected bars, and those who are out and about just have to hope they don't catch his attention. If he shows up people die, straight up. He killed Blackbriar Thorn among others. He is also a spiteful and petty near godlike being, so don't trash talk him or say his name too much or else he will show up and kick your ass/murder you.

Whenever he has shown up in the campaign things have gone really bad and it means it is time to run. I have no idea how the team will manage to defeat or convince Spectre to stop trying to wipe out magic, or even which of those would be easier. But hey if you can get him on your side your chances of winning go way up.

Hint for #51: This character's ranking was really hurt by the order of the ranking topics

In many ways the campaign is divided into four story arcs that exist underneath the overarching threat of Darkseid. The Spectre is one of those quarters. An entire corner of Z'onn Z'orr is devoted to surviving his wrath, after all. But more importantly than that, the Spectre represents as facet of what drives Darkseid, much like each of the four main story arcs. The Spectre is wrath and vengeance personified, and a primary motivator of Darkseid's invasion of Earth is that pure, white-hot intensity of almost divine rage.

51. Tomorrow Woman

Tomorrow woman is a robot lady made by the guy who made the Metal Men. Unlike her creator she is a hero. When the party met her they got put into a situation where they could only save one of two people, they chose to save Tomorrow Woman. She got seriously injured and much of her body was destroyed so now she is just stuck hanging out in a room hoping someone can fix her. And at least one PC is determined to do so, and also hangs out and talks with her from time to time.

Sadly that's all I really remember, I know there was more to her especially to do with the character and PC relationship rather than just the situation. Tomorrow woman is a case of a character really being hurt by the order of the rankings, as I have forgotten much of the reasons she made the list.

In fact the only reason she is still here is because of how I created this list. When I decided to do this I took everyone's lists and made a big character list then put anyone I was considering into a tier. A tier was characters I loved and got legit excited to see ranked because it meant I would learn more of them. B was great/interesting characters. C was characters I felt definitely deserved a spot on the list. D was characters that did enough to get considered. As more lists came people were added to tiers or moved up (rarely moved down and never below C). At the end of Scare's list I had 51 characters in C tier or higher so they all made it in. Tomorrow Woman was given a C when I first did the tiers, so while I don't remember much about her now at one time I felt she definitely deserved a spot and I trust past me.

Didn't have much to post on her so I posted about my process instead. *shrug*. So yeah Spectre was the top D tier character, Tomorrow Woman the bottom C tier. I will point out when we change tiers from here on (also I eventually added a new tier for the top 3 characters)

Maniac Hint: This character had a regular day job

Tomorrow Woman explores the thematical elements of nature vs. nurture, and the notion of free will within the android mind. That sort of extends to a large number of the robotic characters in the campaign, but I think Tomorrow Woman's unique font style helps to convey a certain innocence while also possessing an alien quality to her character as well. She desperately wishes to be a superhero - but that is part of her programming. At the same time, her programming forced her into a position where she would betray the Justice League, so is the lingering desire to be a hero a true one or manufactured? It's hard to say.

Hell yeah Tomorrow Woman ranked rules. Everyone should talk to her more.

She's still learning how to be a hero from the heroic Doctor Light, and they have a nice little chemistry.

When Tomorrow Woman was brought back, she was chosen over Roger Huntoon, a jailer who was skilled enough to keep even the greatest minds locked up, but forced the party to choose her or him.

Recently Roz'etta found out Huntoon might have held the key to solving a mystery involving multiple Batwomen, but Tomorrow Woman is such a dear that I can't help but only feel 'well it's a shame he was so stubborn'. While it isn't directly Tomorrow Woman, anything Huntoon-related is a part of her story due to her being the one who lived.

Gonna guess Vicki too.

Edit: Also Tomorrow Woman was made by Ivo and T.O. Morrow. The Metal Men were made by Will Magnus. However, both are under the care of Roz'etta (the Metal Men more Will's brother, David/Veridium though).

As the hint said, I am a dog person. I appreciate a good dog. There are few things nicer in the world than a loyal dog who will give you affection. Rover checks all the classic dog boxes. Roll the ball to him, and let him roll it back. Im glad Alice has him. Its good to have a trusty companion during the apocalypse.

At the same time, her programming forced her into a position where she would betray the Justice League, so is the lingering desire to be a hero a true one or manufactured? It's hard to say.

Guessing Bobo Bennetti

Lush's lone talk with her was centered around this as the two have a lot in common in questioning their programing and how much they want to be a hero

By all accounts, a good boy. Also, a dumbass.

Have you built a park for him yet? I saw you have a 9-hole golf course! You better have a nice, little park with suitable room for playing with a frisbee.

Cody Hint #49: A Green Lantern I didnt know prior to these lists.

A dog person you say? A shame no one ranked Bandit. He's best dog.

Guessing... Henri Claude Tibet and Arisia
