41. Dewormer

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/5/8/AAQKElAAEIay.png

Almost had the same character ranked on the same day.

I like to imagine Dewormer sounding like a Claptrap with the attitude of Marvin the Paranoid Android.

This little worker bot was designed to find food, but somehow turn depressed. Brennus, helpful kid that he is, tried to help cheer him up but instead made him suicidal. In a panic they managed to shut him off or reset him and Brennus tried again. Again Dewormer was driven to kill itself. Repeat many times and you have a scenario that is super dark but is also absolutely hilarious. Imagining poor Brennus determined to help the little guy out only for him to repeatedly and with increased speed wind up trying to kill itself, and poor Brennus panicking as he stops him and starts over again. No matter what he tried it always led to the same destination. Its just such a crazy scene to imagine and I feel like I can easily picture it. I would just be laughing watching the player try and fail again and again in a comedic montage. Great stuff.

But what really bumps him up the list is that this was not Dewormer's only role in the story. No no, when Kobra betrayed the party and invaded Z'onn Z'orr he did so with an army of Dewormer robots. Suddenly everyone is fighting for their lives against the previously comedic little bot. Just terrifying and another great visual. I like to imagine that at least one Dewormer during the attack confronted Brennus and just out of nowhere got the irresistible urge to kill itself.

Maniac Hint #40: Has a job in Z'onn Z'orr

I love KRays story, it is so interesting as part of the larger Darkseid invasion.
It's been sidelined as of late, but I really enjoy Parademon coming to terms with individuality once again. The recent revelation that the vast majority of the Parademon army used to be human puts a sad tinge on his tale, and when characters like Rosetta and Minerva spend time with him, there's really great sense of vulnerability and camaraderie that develops between them.

40. Jonathan Horne

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/1/5/AAQKElAAEIrT.jpg

Jonathan Horne, proving that the Speaker of the House is a significant position. He is a man of the people, and an actual decent human being to boot! After both the President and Vice President were removed from office, the position fell to Horne. From what Ive heard, he did a pretty decent job of handling some serious issues. Are they the Sub Diego Padres now?

And then the apocalypse hit. And in a scene out of an action movie, the President and some of his staff were dramatically evacuated from D.C. with some fast thinking and a lucky break. They made it to a secure location, and went to work doing what they could given the circumstances.

Horne is yet another example of someone who had to rise to the occasion, both before and especially after the world ended. I appreciate him as an example of someone who didnt seek out power, yet ended up in a very powerful position. And he hasnt let it corrupt him, as far as I know. Hes just a regular man, doing his best in a not-so-regular world.

I may not have voted for him, but surely I would be proud to have him as my President.

Cody Hint #39: This character would have ranked based on their name alone.

Horne is a character who has very much become a product of his time - he's a centrist Republican in a way that only a third party candidate winning the presidency could see rise to prominence. He has a folksy charm, sort of indicative of a Lyndon Johnson, but at the same time he's capable of scheming and manipulating with the best of them. Horne is also going through a crisis of conscience and identity as well, so it's been really thrilling to see Rosetta, Saoirse and of course Xander lean into influencing his direction.

40. Ferdinand

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/8/5/AADKmbAAEIt9.png

The Minotaur (but not called a minotaur) chef of ZZ and formerly Wonder Woman. Ferdinand got brought to Z'onn Z'orr while Lush was the main cook, but when she was gone for a while on a mission he just took over the kitchen and had no desire to give it back. A kitchen battle was clearly the best way to solve this so both characters picked a sous chef and had a cook off, Kitchen Stadium style. Ferdinand teamed with everyone's favorite animal Data-7 who helped cheat on his behalf (and presumably without his knowledge). He might well have won but he ended up feeling sorry for Lush and intentionally left out a key ingredient so that she could win and be head of the kitchen again. Ferdiand still works in the kitchen either way and with Lush often going on missions probably has the run of the place a fair amount of the time, only now the two of them get along much better. Plus with the ever increasing number of people at the base I imagine having more than one cook is likely necessary anyway. The image of a big ol' bull person running a ktichen is just a really fun one and shows what an eclectic and unusual place Z'onn Z'orr is.

There are also some notable non-cooking related moments. When Pasiphae got brought back by Kid Eternity she was introduced to Ferdinand, with the thought being that she would feel better seeing a minotaur doing well and living life. Except that Ferdinand is apparently not quite a minotaur and actually hates Pasiphae's descendants. Oops. However they eventually talked it out and managed to at least not hate each other. Another failed noble deed for the party.

And of course the party eventually learned that Wonder Woman had become the lead Fury for Darkseid. When this news was brought to Ferdinand he was distraught. Lush token him to a location where no one else was around so he could bellow and bull rush objects until he had worked through his emotions. Its a very sad scene to imagine really.

Overall Ferdinand could easily be a simple joke character (bull in the kitchen) but ends up being pretty deep with some very strong story beats when he gets the chance.

39. Foal Fruntell

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/9/9/AAQKElAAEIy3.jpg

Ive said it before, but A+ pun name. I giggle every time I read it.

What if Brennus were a unicorn? I believe there are a handful of NPCs who act as a parody of sorts of existing player characters, taking some characteristics from them to extreme levels. When it comes to Foal Fruntell, he is a likable, aloof, clumsy fellow.

Some highlights:

  • Has very tasty, borderline addictive blood. So good it makes you bad?
  • Technically has a crush on Roz'etta, its a long story.
  • Impaled Brennus at least one time. I suspect it has happened more than once.

39. Trish Mckenzie

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/0/0/AADKmbAAEI3k.jpg

Fields naturally considers her like family because she is of course his sister! Also good friends with the already ranked Barbara Gordon. Trish is a character who is 100% original to the campaign. And while she likely started as mostly a hook for Fields she has become a very important character to the story. She was thought to have been killed between campaigns but in actually she was infected with The Bleed which I guess somehow makes it so that the multiverse is in her veins. I believe this had something to do with Reverse-Flash and his time travel speed force shenanigans/schemes. I think this also ties in to the seven colors prophesy that gets mentioned at times. Either way the party had to try and rescue her from the bleed which meant choosing between a multiverse of Trish's because the original was not an option. They eventually settled on Trish Luther, a version raised by Lex Luthor with all the brilliance and cunning that comes with that, and likely a limited amount of morality.

Even before that though Trish was a brilliant inventor. She created the speech box for Patch making it so that Patch could talk to everyone and not just Artemis. This is an objectively great thing ot have happened. She also is the one who created Radio Tuner, the delightful living iPod. In an apparent time loop Lush went back in time and gave Trish a broken Radio Tuner hoping she could fix him. She had never seen him before but managed to make the repairs, and in her timeline she then went on to make the original Radio Tuner and give it to the party. Time travel makes my head hurt.

Trish is currently riding on board the Hogwarts Express, excuse me I mean the Story Line, as she seems to be tied into a lot of the bigger and more mysterious storylines in the campaign. Her accomplishments are great and her presence is all over the place. Any time Trish is involved in a story you know it is going to be good, whether its simple fine with Fields and Oracle or multiversal universe altering stuff. Quite the resume for a character with no presence in the real DC universe.

Maniac is actually the first person to rank Trish in their top 52.

You've got your timeline a little wrong there, but I'll let Scar go through specifics if he wants. The Bleed stuff happened during campaign 1 and she wasn't actually an inventor before it - just a big nerd.

So there are a few details here that are a bit off. Trish and the Bleed occurred outside of the Clocktower in Campaign 1. I don't know if it was mentioned, but the group that went into her mind to rescue her included Deathstroke, who in the heat of the moment, threw Xander's shoe down a hallway. Highlight of this story.

Trish isn't technically riding the Story Line. Each time the party enters a new car on the train, they pass into another time and another place, where they rewrite history just a little bit. Trish was and is in one of the memories - this being a moment near the end of No Man's Land where Data 7's greatest adversaries, fifty cats, are in the process of invading Trish's apartment in the Clocktower and stealing her dress socks.

That being said, Trish is a personal favorite for me, and I can't wait for some infinite Trishes to show up again. We briefly saw one of them in the Fountain of Youth when the party was coming into inadvertent contact with Bleed-infused waters.

You know, sometimes trying to explain this campaign is a fool's errand. Anyways, Trish is probably one of the easiest characters to slip into - any of the 15 we've met so far.

I'll also bring up that, between campaigns, Trish, Fields, Trish's robot dog Ivar, and Nina (the woman-turned-fishwoman due to Kirk Langstrom) set off on an adventure to map out the emergent multiverse. They would return to the Clocktower as home base every once in awhile, but aside from Superman (and Batman) knowing, I'm not sure the info has really spread outside the campaign 1 party (and Deathstroke, probably Lex too since Trish worked for Lex for a bit of campaign 1). I mean, the Ray met Trish, and only members the conversation being about Hypertime, so...

Either way, Trish has had three entries into the campaign so far, aside from being seen in the fountain of youth:

1. We went to Doom Manor and found out she'd been sent there for 'summer camp' as a teenager, where hopefully her issues of other selves coming from her head would be dealt with. She sort of befriended Crazy Jane, or at least Babydoll, but the Doom Patrol was too much losers for her. Either way, eventually the Chief found a solution instead of trying to help her accept these other selves...

Zatanna

2. Zatanna partitioned Trish's mind to protect her from this situation. Which means we had a piece of Trish with us!... Inside Misty.

Trish emerged at one point in charge of Misty, asking to speak to Barbara through a satphone, and did. Somehow, due to psychic link through the Bleed or whatnot, this Trish piece was smart enough to build a communications thing out of nothing (Trish's superpower, building things out of junk that somehow still work) and talk to Prime Trish.

Anyway, she gave us the message of a couple of numbers and "Bring a Rainbow Brigade". The numbers refered to a sector in space: where Rann is. We guessed Rainbow Brigade was Lantern Corps.

And then we go to Rann and find out that massive golden hands are emerging out of space and grabbing up all matter and slamming it together, slowly growing to engulf the universe. All pretty dire stuff!

38. Fire (Beatriz da Costa)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/5/0/AAQKElAAEI9C.jpg

Get it, because shes on fire? And fire is hot. Anyway

Fire is in the running for the most tragic characters in the campaign. There are a lot of contenders, but she certainly makes the short list. Ill skip past the extra sad pre-campaign stuff, but suffice it to say it involved her BFF/lover/sister(?) dying and then getting doomed to hell for eternity, although everyones favorite University of Michigan grad also looked back.

Cut to the campaign, and I want to say Fire has been playing a pivotal mentor role in Zonn Zorr. But what really drew my interest was the more recent development where someway, somehow, she became possessed by the spirit of Ice? After having come to terms with her death, having the possibility of Ice not being gone forever is so brutal, but also hopeful? I dont recall how Fire felt about all of this. The situation is so messed up but so fascinating. If it doesnt work out, reigniting that past trauma cannot be good for Fire, so yall better help her out!

An aside, fire is a fun element. Fire being the fire Batman to Talis fire Robin is super cool.

38. Radio Tuner

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/4/1/AAQKElAAEHY5.png

So I think Scare may be the only one who was part of this and UCA, B8s old wrestling fed, but one of my most successful gimmicks in that fed was the Avatar of Chaos. A lover of randomness and mayhem. This gimmick was created because of my love of an unusual championship called Melee Mayhem where the type of match was randomly decided on the day of the event. The title could be won or lost based entirely on luck. I loved the craziness of it.

Radio Tuner reminds me of that. This little sentient iPod with a broken screen brings an element of chaos and randomness into any fight it is part of. When Radio Tuner plays music, things happen. Its nearly infinite playlist brings a host of effects into battle, some of them vey helpful, some of them detrimental. Some, like laser eyes, seem helpful but then they launch a party member through the sky as they cry out in betrayal!

Its a really crazy and fun twist that makes everyone remember that they are playing a fun game where anything can happen and silliness is not only okay but often encouraged.

A living magical iPod with reality warping abilities is just a crazy and amazing concept. Add in that it was made by a party members sister as part of a time loop (which means poor Radio Tuner may have never not had a broken screen) and Radio Tuner makes it clear that sometimes you just shouldn't think to hard about how things work lol.

I love it and would use it every battle I could, regardless of the results.

Also if it isn't already on the list I once again request that "You Got the Touch" by Stan Bush be added to the playlist and given a great power up. An 80s power ballad written as literal powerup music for the Transformers movie would just be so epic to have kick on during a battle.

37. Lono

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/5/7/AAQKElAAEJIF.png

The one thing that stood out to me about Lono was just how high-octane is. Every writeup couldnt help but praise how over-the-top fun his sessions were. A bombastic, action-packed car chase. Blowing up a television studio. Being the most-wanted man in Tampa and taking down a horde of bounty hunters.

I dont have a lot to really say about Lono. He appears to be an unsavory brute who you absolutely want on your side, because any mission with him will be a memorable one. I appreciate a character who is able to make any session they are in fun for the players, and Lono absolutely fills that role.

Lono is easily one of my favorite characters to portray in this campaign. There's something unnatural and predatory about this beast, like an untamed creature who has only been barely kept on a leash, and you can tell he relishes any opportunity to exercise his aggressions. Even with the party, there's always something sinister just barely held back. But the crux of being this resistance in Antarctica means that you're starved for manpower, and Lono is just too enticing an asset to ignore. So careful steps.

I really can't wait for the players to see where his story leads! Crazy stuff!

37 Parademon K'Ray

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/7/9/AAQKElAAEImD.png

Cody and I agree on the lowest Secret Six member to rank at least.

Previously just another nameless Parademon working for Darksied, his mind controlling antennae was damaged in battle and the party discovered there is a regular sentient being left behind. He was taken by the Secret Six, a team of villains who are allies of the ZZ, and tortured. Then the Secret Six were betrayed and K'Ray ended up helping them out and eventually joining their ranks. Some people would have held the torture against them but not K'Ray, his old boss was way worse after all.

K'Ray is now a pretty big personality and best friends with Secret Six member Ragman. He flies Ragman around and probably hurts the masochistic villain on request. Ragman's a weird dude but he and the Parademon seem to mesh well.

Presumably he also had some good info on Darkseid's forces to share but I don't remember if anything important came from it.

Honestly I wish I remembered more about the K'Ray write-ups because I don't feel like I am doing the big guy justice here, I just remember really liking him.

Quick correction: Ragdoll, not Ragman. Nor Ragged Robin.

Lono's great. I told the ladder story which is such a late-in-the-film action movie joke to make. I love it.

And my sweet K'Ray, he's a good dumb boy who tries really hard. He tries thinking too hard though.

Gonna guess Cody is a big fan of Jack Knight, and Maniac is putting Misty here.

Good Secret Six synergy!

We've been pretty close already, I wonder if we'll end up sharing a ranking for the same character.

36. Deadshot (Floyd Lawton)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/3/5/AAQKElAAEJUP.jpg

What, were some kind of Secret Six?

Deadshot played a significant role in the first campaign, having a thing with Tali and his daughter being friends with Spirit. Cut to campaign two, and he is part of the Secret Six, along with his bestie Catman. But then it turns out he killed nearly all of Catmans cats in a misguided attempt to help and framed it on Deathstroke. Not great! Also, his daughter Zoe was kidnapped and being used as his leverage to obey Mockingbird. Also not great!

I believe things have improved on both fronts however. Deadshot has since helped recover one of Catmans remaining lions and return them to Zonn Zorr, that was a success right? Massacring what was essentially Catmans family and then lying about it is super messed up, no matter how you look at it. He has begun to try and mend that relationship and atone for his past sins, which is admirable even if it wont be enough. Hopefully one day he will be able to make things right with Catman.

His other story thread involving his daughter was going well last I heard. After a thrilling rescue, Zoe was recovered and returned to Zonn Zorr, and is now rooming with Spirit! He may be a very, very flawed man, but I dont think he is a bad father. Its good that they were able to be reunited safely. Speaking of Zoe, I heard that she and Spirit went to Hawaii recently. How are they getting along? Would Deadshot approve?

Deadshot, like most people, is only human. He is deeply flawed, and has made mistakes, but that only makes his triumphs stand out even moreso. Hopefully he will continue to walk a good path moving forward, and become someone his daughter can look up to with pride.

Cody Hint #35: I respect a character who sticks to their morals.

Deadshot is the one that insisted on them rooming together in the first place so I think he approves. Spirit and Zoe just had a scene the other day where she surprised him by cleaning his hero costume and then they gave Patroklos a bath. Spirit doesn't have animal handling skill though so it was pretty messy, but that's fine.

While in Hawaii, Zoe blew a supervillain's brains out with wrist shooter she stole from her dad. Then she vomited. So it was the second best trip she's had.
