50. Vicky Vale

Gotham's top reporter. She had discovered the story of the century, Bruce Wayne is Batman! Unfortunately, before she could publish A-Day or whatever you guys call it happened and Darkseid attacked the Earth and Equated a huge amount of people. So now she has a massive story that people just don't care about as much. But hey at least the party now knows what every player already did, which made Hush pretending to be Bruce Wayne much more interesting.

Now she lives in Zonn Zorr and writes news articles for the people living there (and really for the players). There is certainly enough going on to keep her busy at least. These stories seem like an entertaining little bonus for the players and I like how ZZ has a bit of the regular world in it like a newspaper and stores.

By all accounts, a good boy. Also, a dumbass.

As the hint said, I am a dog person. I appreciate a good dog. There are few things nicer in the world than a loyal dog who will give you affection. Rover checks all the classic dog boxes. Roll the ball to him, and let him roll it back. Im glad Alice has him. Its good to have a trusty companion during the apocalypse.

Have you built a park for him yet? I saw you have a 9-hole golf course! You better have a nice, little park with suitable room for playing with a frisbee.

Cody Hint #49: A Green Lantern I didnt know prior to these lists.

Rover honestly hasn't had a significant role since RP Bingo in any scene, I don't think. He used to have a much more front-and-center position, but I think he's certainly suffered in the expansion of Z'onn Z'orr.

Vicki Vale, to me, fulfills an extremely important role - that of the wartime journalist. More specifically, she fills cracks that are necessary to be filled in the campaign - there are always questions of how the world works in any expansive story, how industry can function in a world run by Darkseid, how money can fare in a society where there is no subjectivity, no free market. Vicki investigates the detail work that would never arise in-session, and for me, that's liberating. I can tackle questions that have yet to be asked and hopefully give depth to areas of shallowness otherwise.

Fun bit: A-Day is just what America calls it apparently. We've encountered it in other locations calling it Broadcast Day or I think Z-Day as well. Lots of names just to indicate the day that Darkseid put the ALE on air

Also as a fun note, whenever I see Vicki Vale's name I think of the first episode of Chuck and him singing "Vicki Vale Vick-Vick-Vicki Vale"

49. Arisia Rrab

You know, she looks super sunburned in this picture.. (Related question, do power rings protect the user from UV rays? They probably do.)

Arisia here acts as a stand-in for the space side of things a bit for me. Based on prior lists, I dont believe the campaign even made it into space until after the rankings had started. I distinctly recall Ermines list being more space-heavy than the prior ones.

Anyway, Ive heard she gets into Looney Tunes-esque mischief with Data 7. If I could hang out with one Lantern, Arisia seems like she would be fun.

Cody Hint #48: A time traveler.

Admittedly I need to spend more time with Arisia. I used an item to gain Ally with her, but it would feel really cheap to just leave it at that.

The first list had JUST started after we had made it to space. Maybe a couple week. I had Hal Jordan on my list.

But yeah, we had barely done a thing in space yet.

Time traveler is, uh, who? I've no idea.

I'm gonna guess that time traveler is referring to someone outside of their own time, kinda like the kid summons?

Arisia constantly proves to be one of my favorite Lanterns to present. The simultaneous presentation of both wisdom and wide-eyed naivete makes her such an enjoyable contradiction of terms. And then there's this:

49. Pocus

The maybe magical rabbit and pet of the magician Zatanna (she of the mind wipes and backwards speaking). Currently Pocus has been adopted by Misty, Zatanna's former...prisoner I guess?

What we know: Pocus can talk! What we don't know: Pocus may have other magical powers. Some small things have happened that Pocus claims to have caused and he(?) may be telling the truth, but nobody has seen actual proof of Pocus's abilities. I just really like the idea of a maybe magical rabbit that belongs to a definitely magical magician. I also fully believe that Pocus believes they have magic, but may also just be a silly rabbit who has fallen for Zatanna's showmanship. That is just a really amusing character to me and one I would definitely be interacting with if I was in the campaign.

Here's what you don't know about Pocus (other than her gender):

Pocus claims to be extremely powerful, and she seems to have been aware of Misty's princess status since the very beginning. Pocus, in fact, will tell you from the get-go that she has been protecting Misty under Zatanna's instruction. This is the same Zatanna for whom Pocus claims she has been assisting for her act by performing all of the magic within it.

I don't know which I want more, for Pocus to actually be extremely powerful or have no powers.

Funniest is probably that Pocus has magic but it's really weak and Zantanna just always told her she did more of the show.

48. Radio Tuner

I like music. Who doesnt like music? Ive heard that Radio Tuner is great for providing some background music for fights. What a nice thing to do!

I also likerandom modifiers, I guess would be a good way to describe it. Ive heard that Radio Tuner is prone to randomly altering things for fights. What fun! I recall there was a thing with laser eyes and betrayal. It sounds like it was a good time.

Finally, I also like timey wimey things. Radio Tuner likely would have snuck on my list with the above factors, but throw in a mysterious, self-fulfilling time loop backstory and Im sold. I have to ask though, was Radio Tuners screen always broken?

Cody Hint #47: Provides a valuable service in Zonn Zorr.

Our first image of Radio Tuner was indeed broken. When we found it in LA some characters there were trying to break it and then it just outright massacred them and pointed its broken screen towards us. That said, it's not so broken that we can't see the screen, we just can't control what it plays at any given moment since it has a soul of its own.

It's also not just stats either, we had one fight where gravity was being abnormalized and then we broke Radio Tuner, thought Radio Tuner was messing with the gravity of the room but really the song effect was every d20 roll would actually be flipped upside down (the result that's on the opposite side of the die). Or Hawaii where everyone swapped bodies and controlled the actions of another character (but that player would still roll the attacks), was a bit awkward for the two spellcasters.

It can be quite fun, but also scary when some effects aren't quite as beneficial. Ermine's Data 7 in particular has had many of the Radio Tuner songs be not quite the most beneficial to him.

The Robin to Knight's Batman. She lives in London and any mention of her includes her infectiously positive and cheery personality. She seems like an absolute delight and the kind of person who would be great to have around, espeically in a dark and serious time like this campaign takes place in. Talk about a needed breath of fresh air.

This is a character I can definitely tell I would love. Plus naming all her stuff after squire is legit funnier than bat/robin. Squirecycle, Squirerangs, etc

Maniac Hint #47: This character is a schemer

Squire is one of my personal favorite characters to voice. What a ray of sunshine.

Quick, related tangent: I love The Incredibles. Great movies, probably my favorite Pixar series on the whole. And one of my favorite characters? Edna Mode, fashion designer for superheroes.

All of which brings me to Laura Penn. I know shes hardly a significant character in the grand scheme of things, but I really like characters who are able to act in a support role to raise others up. And in a world filled with capes and cowls, the importance of a heros (or villains) costume should not be underestimated. I may be ranking her role in Zonn Zorr more so than Laura herself, but Johnbobbs writeup really resonated with me. Respect for the tailor at the end of the world, someone who has risen above and beyond the call of duty.

Cody Hint #46: Has an alliterative name.

Laura hasn't been mentioned since October, and not very recently before that I don't think. She's a little out of vogue.

Laura Penn's best thing is Roz'etta's 'disguise area' looking like a Better Home and Garden.

All because Roz'etta wanted to be an umbrella when it was raining.

Much like Tomorrow Woman, this is a character probably hurt by the order of the rankings. I was definitely higher on her after her #1 place writeup. Now I mostly remember her for the drama with the Pepper/Tracy/Jaime love triangle which ended with her blowing it up by having Misty channel Star Sapphire and kiss Jaime in front of Pepper. A real 'if I can't have him neither can you'. But hey at least that ended up working out I guess?

Luckily there was a bit of a refresher in Scare's topic discussing how her scheming isn't just limited to teen romance. She also is looking to rise up the ranks in ZZ and Checkmate. She is a teenage mage who wants to be the leader of the new generation of magic (assuming it survives The Spectre's wrath) and be a real power player in the Darkseid resistance. She is very close with Saorise and they have a sisterly relationship, with both being protective of the other.

Its Vicki Vale, everyones favorite journalist! Maniacs writeup and Scarlets follow-up have already covered her pretty well.

I absolutely love how she is able to provide additional worldbuilding. The campaigns setting is enormous, and there are countless interesting stories that are worth telling, but arent necessarily meant to be played.

One of my favorite eventual questions that I am dying to see resolved if/when things get back to "normal": What will come of her knowing Bruce Wayne is Batman? Its very juicy.

She also joined Big Troubles, right? Did anything come of that?

And man I can't believe I forgot to mention the Big Troubles part. Vicky being offered a spot in an otherwise all animal team was hilarious.

Having not collaborated at all on our actual lists, I expect there will be a lot of overlap. I can confirm that someone else you've ranked already will show up on my list eventually.

Oh yeah for sure, i would expect our top 20s to largely be on both lists. But I was curious how far before the first overlap happened.

Maybe someday I'll share some of the articles. They're so much fun to cook up.

46. Oracle (Barbara Gordon)

The original Batgirl, who survived a gun shot from Joker and became the ultimate superhero support character. She was the head of the Campaign 1 teams, the central figure of that campaign in many ways. But now they have left Gotham behind while Barbara has chosen to stay and continue fighting for her beloved city alongside Nightwing and DentBatman.

For me the most interesting stuff to hear about is how this tech savvy and focused hero has been forced to abandon her strongest tools and adapt now that Darkseid has corrupted TV and technology with the ALE. Its clear this would be a huge blow to the wheelchair bound superheroine, forcing her to complete change her methods once again, just like she did after being paralyzed. Hearing about her breaking down with Nightwing was a powerful scene to read about, but stories of her using go pro's mounted on Harley Quinn's hyenas shows that she will once again not be stopped from helping out her fellow Gotham heroes. Its to bad she hasn't had as much time in the new campaign but the impact she made on everyone in C1 is clear and the time she does get always sounds interesting.

Maniac Hint #45: This character is a thief

I can't remember if anyone ranked Nocturna though.

The purpose of an oracle is to prophesy portents of things that have yet come to pass. In the first campaign, it was Oracle who lifted up the party members because she saw great value in their willingness to sacrifice for the good of Gotham. While she is intensely human, she does possess a keen intuition - so the real question is, can the party distill through Barbara's uncertainty and doubt her next prophecy?
