Good thing he never tried to kill a child in his sleep. If you watched the movie and thought that happened, you weren't paying attention.

I swear the most frustrating thing in the world when discussing this movie is people spouting stuff that directly contradicts what it clearly showed or stated.

It's not without flaws or anything but you often have to wade through total horseshit like that.

Nope! I usually see both sides of arguments and don't like to take sides in anything, but I fail to see any real upside to TLJ. It was (mostly) sufficiently entertaining for the two hours in the theater as a "whatever let's go see a movie" movie, and then rage-inducing afterward once your brain has a chance to parse it and also remember that Star Wars ought to be good.

There are only 3 good Star Wars movies, and TLJ is one of them.

I feel like we moved past Minions talk, but just wanted to say I agree it doesn't belong in the poll. Expectations have to be a factor here. Minions is inoffensive and nobody cares. Compare that to, like, Wreck it Ralph 2, which is a Pacific Rim 2 like abomination that killed the franchise in people's hearts.

Yeah the A cinemascore for TLJ is pretty telling of what the actual reception was. It also got 5 stars from ComScore while by contrast TFA and Rogue One got 4 and a 1/2. This is actual polling of audiences not vocal online comments and a handful of audience scores hit hard by bots. Here is a Deadline article about it:

https://deadline.com/2017/12/star-wars-the-last-jedi-rotten-tomatoes-metacritic-imdb-users-cinemascore-posttrak-1202228837/amp/

So yeah on the whole TLJ is not a particularly divisive film, just a case of vocal online fandom differing. You can even see it in this thread when you compare the comments to the poll results. If you listened to online discourse you would swear that people hate most of Star Wars, but in reality almost every film got a positive reception from critics and audiences. The vocal online fandom is just separate like that.

Anyway Im all for moving the conversation past Star Wars, especially for a film thats not even in the poll. So two more things:

-Minions was close to making the list but had the second Pirates film below it too so it would have still just dodged the poll if TPM had been disqualified on the basis of not making a billion in its initial run.

-I generally disagree with the whole no cultural impact argument you see people make about some huge films like Avatar. I can tell you what the impact of every billion dollar film was and why they were so successful With one exception. The only true huh? to me is Pirates 4, as Pirates 3 did not make a billion and unlike Age of Extinction this was pre-China boom. I have no idea where all that money came from.

I respect Episode I more than anything else on this list because it's the only one to have profoundly impacted popular culture and gave rise to a ton of excellent content in the expanded universe. Say what you will about The Prequels, but that era had a ton of heart and made for a great time to be a fan.

Episode I: Racer, man. Even if you don't agree with anything else I've said, you can't deny that one is a jam. The arcade cab is even better.

The only ones of the billion club I've never seen are the Fast & Furious ones. And went for the second most voted in this poll, The Lion King 2019. Found it unnecessary from announcement - unlike Jungle Book, which at least has a human, TLK would just trade 2D animation for photorealistic one. And indeed, it the original movie but worse. (and sadly, the good one is not a billion dollar movie, that's just a BOM mistake: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Film/Film_finance_task_force#Box_Office_Mojo)

And for the question on Pirates 4 making all that money: before China, but during the 3D craze (see also: Alice). And just so I can give my Star Wars take (no need to revive the discussions): TLJ and TROS served to bring me back to my original conclusion of "the story was good enough with 6 movies", taking down all the hopes TFA gave me.

How the fuck did Alice in Wonderland make a billion dollars??
Everyone saw Avatar in 2009, all theaters had to upgrade to 3D projection as a result, Alice told us it was the "next big 3D must-see event" and hit the screens with perfect timing.

(Then it was awful and killed 3D for 12 more years.)

Of the ones I've seen (never seen a Transformers movie), it's The Phantom Menace by a mile. Of course recency bias is going to pinpoint Episode 9, but that's at the very least a competently shot and acted film. Episode 1 is a failure in every imaginable way, including the lowest possible bars of being so bad it's good and being a good kids film. Nope, it's just horrendous. There aren't even arguments to make of "well it might be worse but it's more interesting." Please watch those back to back.
