In the original timeline, Feige was fired. The MCU floundered and sank, which prompted Iger to use the Time Stone to go back and save Feige. Also probably some stock manipulation.

Wow, could Peter end up with Nebula? I never considered it before that trailer, but that could work... This Gamora does not have a history with him, heck, he doesn't really have a history with her. Yet we see two scenes there one of her leaning on him and the other he carrying him, and the dialogue definitely shows something is there, especially since she's just as outraged at the notion she might love him as Gamora used to be. I've wanted Quill to have his happily ever after when the movie ends, but maybe it's not what I thought it was going to be.

Quantumania not doing great on RT.

MCU is kind of reminding me of Pixar where it was pretty much all good for like a decade, then it got into more hit-and-miss territory. That said, I haven't seen it, so I'm making a very early judgement here obv.

posted this in the other topic, but it really did look from the trailers that this film kind of "forgot" what made the first two enjoyable (humor, supporting cast, shrinking hijinks). instead it seemed to lean really into melodrama / setting up kang as the next big bad, which is a strange ask for the ant-man franchise. many critics are for sure judging this as an action rom-com and are not liking the phase 5 plot seeding going on.

Saw it yesterday, it sure is a huge contrast going from two straight-up action comedies to a microscopic epic. There are certainly funny moments, but the thing is fairly serious - and yes, there is a lot of Kang set-up - while being akin to Guardians or Thor in presenting a strange new world (which my mom even noted as being a sharp contrast to how the Quantum Realm appeared in the other Ant-Man movies, which Janet even notes as "it changes as you go deeper").Still found it found it fun, Kang is a great villain, I like Kathryn Newton more with every new movie of hers I see, and it's amusing how they found a way for the ants to be employed.

In the meantime, am confused by how none of the Disney+ shows have release dates yet. Specially when the post-credits is a Loki scene.

I'm glad I saw that RT score because I think it took the edge off my expectations

I really enjoyed it. Solid MCU fun. Kang was a magnet every time he was on screen. There's some setup stuff but it feels overstated - it's not like Batman vs Superman levels of superfluous setup or even like Wakanda Forever where the CIA could have been cut entirely. Felt like what they were setting up meshed well with what Kang wanted so it worked organically.

It lacks Wakanda Forever's character (WF simply had a better director and a million times better score) or MoM's gore/acting (Olsen is possibly the best thing they have though Majors might be coming for that crowd)

Third act felt busy and kind of overlong and there's so, so much green screen the whole thing felt a bit too artificial (like the end of Guardians 2), and I wish Bill Murray was in it too. Also MODOK looked so fucking stupid but I'm fine with that because he was such a joke.

Good, solid, middle of the road MCU movie. Nowhere near as bad as Eternals like the review aggregators would suggest. I'd watch it again, but it's not going to be high on my list. I do wish they wouldn't have played it so safe. Killing Scott or leaving him stranded or letting Kang win, something other than maintaining the status quo for the next movie.

I don't really get what makes it rotten, though it's very obviously flawed.

Then again, I guess it's not been totally panned. Roughly half the reviewers liked it, half didn't. Nobody seems to think it's a 10/10 and very few people think it's a 0 or a 1. So I guess that narrow margin can fall either way.

But I think it was better than Ant Man 2 for instance. It's certainly not to be compared with Thor 2, Thor 4 or Hulk. Simply nowhere near that level.

Oh and also it was betrayed by its own trailers, I think. Kang wanting Scott to help get something is like the main point of them, but that's like late second-act, third-act stuff. So much of the movie is about getting to that point. The tone of the trailers should have been more "oh shit we're trapped in the quantum realm and it's being run by this oppressive bastard" and then it's revealed to be Kang in the final seconds of the trailer.

I know, "trailers give the movie away, more at 11," but they should be savvier about this stuff now imo. This is even more egregious than Ragnarok being all "the Grandmaster's Champion is terrifying Thor might be killed by him" for 15-20m when everybody knew already it was Hulk

Quantumania was fine. Nothing more, nothing less. I thought they'd get stranded in the quantum realm at the very end but that wouldn't make sense considering Cassie got back so they'd just figure it out. I'm assuming MODOK wasn't in the trailers but that was a surprise; yeah it was goofy but it worked. Kang kind of stole the show here I think. Michelle Pfeiffer is still a very pretty lady. I think my biggest criticism is just how kind of Star Wars a lot of the movie felt, if that makes any sense.

There was a lot of bold ambition in this movie, and some great set pieces sprinkled throughout. And between those pieces, the movie did not know what to do with itself at all. I honestly don't know how to be constructive about the movie other than to say that it was amateur hour held up by some memorable moments here and there. Thank god they have a charismatic lead like Rudd and a phenomenal villain like Majors. Everything else was sloppy as hell - characters getting no introduction, characters getting no meat to chew off the bone, events occurring without any real baseline for what the subatomic universe is...

I say this as someone who is NOT a good writer and knows it. That movie could have done with a huge rewrite.

Also, did anyone else find the actress playing Stature to be pretty... awful? Like, she seemed to be laughing through every scene.

All of that is to say, it actually might be my lowest rated MCU movie since Age of Ultron.

4 days later, I have no memory of any of the quantum realm character names. There was blob ooze guy, Amazon girl with the abs, Lightbulb head, etc. Did they ever actually formally introduce any/all of those characters, or did they just randomly drop their name from time to time?

Just saw Quantumania! I thought it was really good, but had some issues.

First, I think the first half of this movie was really lacking. Just a lot of meandering around. A lot of "Janet what is happening?" "I don't want to talk about it." A lot of getting to know these random freedom fighters. A lot of stuff that frankly doesn't land nearly as well. There definitely could have been something else they did with this film.

Second, the moment Jonathan Majors comes into the picture as Kang, the movie gets so much better. That dude killed it. Loved everything about Kang. I've never been a huge Kang fan, but he was perfect here. Totally sold on Kang in future movies. Keep that outfit though, for the love of god. Everything about it was perfect.

MODOK was everything I wanted and needed. Give me goofy fucking MODOK. I feel he was very underutilized, but for what we got of a MODOK adaptation I was happy with it. I wish he had managed to make it out of the Quantumverse though. He would've been fun to play around with in the future. I thought his betrayal of Kang was kinda sudden. I feel like they should have built it up more.

I feel like Wasp was underutilized, even though the best action scenes continue to be with her. I feel like a lot of the family stuff didn't feel as cozy as the previous films either.

The action in the last part of the movie was outstanding though. Just everything I'd want from a movie like this. I kinda loved the super sophisticated ants part where they just overtake Kang. It looked totally rad.

But holy hell did I ever miss Luis and the other characters from the previous two movies. You're telling me you could fit in the Baskin Robbins guy in the movie twice, but you couldn't find a spot for Luis? What is that? I think they could have found a way to include a lot of the characters with a re-write. Maybe make it so only some characters were in the Quantum realm at first, while the others aren't and need to get help from Luis and others? Just a scene or two of Cassie with her mom and step dad? Hell, get Luis sucked in there somehow. He can just hang out with Hank a lot on the ship or something. There had to be something they could do to improve that first half, because man.

Aside from that, I kind of wish it had more humor. For as much as people dunk on Marvel for being too joke-y, Ant-Man of all things seemed like it toned it down a lot. There's scenes dedicated to jokes with random characters, and some MODOK stuff, but overall it seemed really toned down on the humor.

I don't think it really deserved the critical beat down it got. Definitely nowhere near the worst of the MCU movies. Definitely better than the vast majority of the TV offerings. I enjoyed it more than Thor Ragnarok, that's for sure. And I think I'd argue it was better than Wakanda Forever too.
