If they add a second BA to the end, that's whatever. I casually mention it's unnecessary. If they screw it up significantly worse than that, I'm going to laugh internally and decide they're not worth correcting.

When I picture this it almost has to be something basic like reversing B and A. Because otherwise you're just holding a sequence in memory that doesn't even resemble the one it's supposed to be.

I don't think I've ever actually used the Konami code in a video game ever, but when I tested myself just now I straight-up forgot the BA entirely. Whoops.

Luckily I don't go around proudly stating it very often!

This was the exact mistake made by the other person.

Stranger in my house saw it and was quick to share his joy of the game -- like, as soon as he saw my fridge and that magnet, no transition, he spits it out with the extra B-A.

I let him slide. He was there for a job, it ain't about Konami Code precision.

I have a memory of trying with my friend to input this other complicated code as a kid, and that stuck in my head in the same place as the Konami code so I conflate them a lot

Depending on the game there actually are valid variants of the code! In TMNT 3, it is A B rather than B A for example (and the Japanese version has even more variants)

I dont know if theres been one that adds an additional B A at the end though. In a lot of games the code instantly triggers once it is completed, so the extra B A wouldnt mess anything up.

I remember in Gradius III, if you enter the Konami code, it makes your ship blow up. But if you enter the Konami code and use the L and R shoulder buttons in place of the lefts and rights, it powers you up!

I don't believe BABA has ever been "valid" so much as that's just legit how a lot of kids in the 80's learned it, and the extra button presses don't invalidate the code being entered. I have no idea where the extra BA came from, or if it was just a natural consequence of everything else being doubled that there's a tendency to double the BA.

I also learned it as "select start" at the end. But I also didn't own a system, so if I was ever playing, it was 2-player at a friend's house.
