I really enjoyed the first few She-Hulk episodes, but everything since has been a chore to get through for me. Even Daredevil felt so shoehorned in, just a quick "yeah he's definitively in the MCU now" kinda thing after Spidey.

I have mixed feelings about this episode

on the good side, Charlie Cox as Daredevil is still so so good and the episode was very fun start to finish. Cox and Maslany have fantastic chemistry.

on the other hand everyone kinda felt out of character here. Matt Murdock turning to his client and saying "they're lying, don't ask me how I know" was so on the nose and also didn't make sense (his client made his supersuit so he literally already knows how you know). Then Jen just destroying shit like it's nothing? They made jokes about the property damage and stuff but that's literally thousands in damage she did for like no reason, she should honestly probably be arrested for that. She directly through a car at someone who, had she not missed, would have straight up died.

also I'm probably reading way too much into things but after Jen was talking about the "twist," Nikki popped out with three makeup brushes sticking out from each hand in what feels like a Wolverine reference

I do wonder how the legality of superhero collateral is handled in the MCU because yeah Jen noticeably ain't giving a single shit about toning it down in her outing

it's not like the show was disregarding her destruction but specifically going absurd with it - like holy crap that was a real luxurious beaut of a car she nonchalantly just hurls way

I think it's just the quality of writing isn't great in the show and they just didn't give that any thought or really cared because they're more concerned with everything else. I don't mean to say that as too much of a knock, but it's clear that actual super heroics are kind of the thing they're least interested in with this series.

I mean personally y'all just taking the comedy show too seriously, this episode was just a blast for me, definitely up there in the most enjoyable D+s eps (... a list that's all rather unique in why I like them)

I was just happy to see Jen actually enjoying the superheroing side of She-Hulk, that as Matt states, she's never actually done before. Which is why her character is being so giddy and nonchalant about it.

The fact that it's a dumb comedy show is why I am so easy on it a lot of times! But they also want it to be more than a dumb comedy show sometimes too, which is why I think people can be a bit hard on it when it sucks.

For the most part I enjoy this show, but sometimes there's stuff in here and episodes where I just don't understand why they bothered. Like I'm not even bothered by the collateral damage thing because the writers don't care about it, it won't ever factor into anything, and ultimately it's not a big deal. I'm just stating there isn't as much care put into this show as other MCU projects.

Well, they certainly delivered on She-Hulk this week, best episode since they stopped doing mid-credits scenes. Certainly had the build-up for a finale that Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel lacked. Hope they can deliver in the finale (if only because I'm feeling old next Thursday, and there is also a much less promising closure in Halloween Ends).

I wouldn't say it's as focused on the overarching narrative as you say (it largely gets chipped at here and there, but Jen didn't even know there were baddies until now), but also having an overarching narrative doesn't preclude being a sitcom / comedy. There's plenty of comedies with disregardable absurdism while maintaining a broader narrative.

But if the narrative was focused on these implications then sure, but we're 8 eps deep and I've been hearing these same complaints the whole way through, at some point you gotta adapt to what you're watching, that this is a live action cartoon. Like we already had Mr. Immortal jumping out the window and total a car below, yeah this stuff happens and the show doesn't have to do a follow-up about it, it served its purpose to shock a reaction out of you.

speaking of adapt to what you're watching, Werewolf by Night tonight! from what we've seen I don't expect it to be much in line with the MCU but I'm interested in finding how much it does.

igordebraga posted...

agreed on Ms. Marvel but I'd say Moon Knight had more built up for its finale

... the issue with Moon Knight though is there seemed to be so much left to do that you don't know how they can do it

Ms. Marvel concluded its plot in the penultimate and then uh had to gather up some scraps to work a finale out of

She-Hulk... definitely just set us up for a finale but I don't actually know what that finale's gonna be... I'm expecting her to be fired, she got the DoDC's attention by fully Hulk raging out, plus GLHK has been handing her baddies all season so it makes sense for her to leave and it works for closing the season out. No idea how she's fighting back against the Intelligencia though, obviously she should know Josh is evil by now, but she probably doesn't know how to find/reach him. There's Todd, but it's not yet clear that he's actually a member... I think maybe going back to Blonsky's retreat and getting intel from Wrecker? I think there's actually more Abomination footage from promos we haven't seen so that would work.

She-Hulk: I got caught up with Daredevil S1 and S2 (I'll do S3 later) just so I could properly appreciate the Matt Murdock cameo here, and it's a delight to see him - I got goosebumps when the Daredevil theme started swelling that one time - but it's also incredibly strange seeing him in a lighthearted comedy show. Getting out of Hell's Kitchen must've been a nice vacation for the guy.

I'm incredibly curious how they're gonna handle the new Daredevil show. I feel like they have to tone down on the darkness and bloodiness of the Netflix show, but I'm curious how they're gonna pull it off. I don't even get if the Netflix show is supposed to be canon or not. Did that shit all still happen to the Matt Murdock in this/Spider-Man? Are they rebooting him? They can't, right? But they said it's not gonna be a season 4 either - I'm so damn confused

I think the intention was to recast those roles when they decided to make them non-canon, but now that they are reusing some actors it gets murky again.

I'd assume nothing from them is canon until otherwise stated, but they certainly could pull from them as needed.

I mean to me it's as simple as they cast him as the same actor. If they really wanted to contradict Netflix shows there was a much easier way to do it than any plot related detail. There are plenty of viable people to play these characters, reusing Netflix casting is intentional.

Really a love letter to the Universal horror films in every way. They should make this a yearly tradition. Giacchino really did a fantastic job.

I honestly just hope Giacchino keeps getting brought in for 1 episode of TV a year. I really was surprised how well he captured the Universal tone, and his music plays even better when he's able to perfectly use it like a tool.
