I've seen lots of people praise it at Strange's expense. Then again it might just generally be an anti-Disney thing, such as praising Aquaman at Black Panther's expense and especially Alita: Battle Angel at Captain Marvel's (becomes pretty funny given Disney owns the former film now anyway). Probably also the "Some of My Best Friends are X" phenomenon at play there.

Also, could possibly be some sort of "multiverse" fatigue due to Into the Spider-verse and Crisis on Infinite Earths kicking things off even outside of the MCU, so maybe those prior works had gotten peoples' hopes up. I thought Into the Spider-verse was merely decent and didn't like Loki at all, so evidently those works hadn't spoiled it for me.

Oh yeah, to explain why I keep bringing Midnight's Edge up, it's where I used to get a lot of my movie news from 2016-2019. I unsubscribed from them once I noticed how they increasingly resorted to throwing out idiotic conspiracy theories without any basis in facts (especially regarding Disney), but I've still been tempted to check on them every now and then (not helped that they're still good at reporting facts that are out in the open).

The complaints about the Masked/unmasked heroes just reminds me of the issues I had with Jennifer Lawrence Mystique spending the majority of the movies as just regular ass Jennifer Lawrence

That one at least makes a bit of practical sense due to the time and expense of the makeup. Still would have rather she be blue of course.

Saw BP2 yesterday. Good movie. I was aware of how long it was while watching, but I didn't feel like it was too long. The subtitle was fitting, since it was much more of a Wakanda movie than a BP movie, but that was fine given the context. Namor was cool. Ramonda was great. I thought I read Winston Duke had renegotiated for a higher pay due to an extended role with reshoots, but that didn't make itself very readily apparent. Only the very end seemed like a potential reshoot scene, but it did give the impression he may take on the mantle going forward (until young T'challa grows up, that is).

oh I didn't realize that the Guardians holiday special was out

I figured it would be a december thing at least but guess I'll get around to it

It was fun. And honestly Drax looks fine wearing a shirt, if that's what it takes to get him to keep doing the role then let it happen!

It seems like the new Black Panther movie has caused "M She U" memes to really take off. I would agree it's kind of lazy to introduce a bunch of female variations of the Avengers, except they're not being done just to replace them and at least the stories examine concepts like living up to their legacies. Therefore, it's clear this is more misogynist gatekeeping. WTF.

Honestly, I was afraid before Phase 4 that the MCU was going to get carried away with "representation". Whether due to real-life events, the realization that every movie before Black Panther had a white male lead, or some combination of those and other factors, I can safely say that ultimately became the least of Phase 4's problems and it's disgusting so much of the discourse surrounding it "disappointing" focuses around "forced" diversity. I even replied to someone complaining on a YT video reacting to one particular anti-progressive take that most of the new characters introduced in Phase 4 are female using the aforementioned reasoning about predominance of white male leads in prior phases, and they retorted by saying that's like asking for more non-Chinese representation in Chinese cinema or more male leads in romantic comedies (this makes even less sense writing it out, heh) in addition to bemoaning how it comes at the expense of precious white male leads - I'm sure Hollywood is in short supply of them!

This is starting to become absurd even by their standards. Trying to use the new Doctor Strange and Thor movies as examples of the "M She U" is rich considering the two prominent female characters in the former include a witch who becomes an unstable villain because of the Necronomicon and a little girl who can't control her own power and needs to be saved a bunch, while in the latter one of the prominent heroines sits the climax out while the other doesn't survive the movie. I also felt Hawkeye did a good job of displaying that as competent as Kate is, she still makes mistakes and is still clearly nowhere near as proficient as Clint - but of course it falls into the M She U trap because OMG Kate is the main character instead of Hawkeye! As if that wasn't established right from the opening scene and as if Clint was so popular before. How obsessed with identity politics are these losers? They're actually right when they say stuff like "you can't criticize X or you're racist/sexist" - because they genuinely don't know how to do so without getting that kind of pushback! They also really seem to hate women of color in particular.

On another note, it doesn't help that one of the YT movie reviewers I mostly prominently follow, Chris Stuckmann, said Hawkeye was the first of the MCU shows that didn't disappoint him. Since that show seemed to go on less controversially than the previous three and I agreed with Chris, I assumed Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki were all unpopular only to find all three series have good imdb ratings and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Mind blown.

I did not actually watch the anti-progressive videos for what it's worth. It still strikes me as nonsensical to single out the Marvel Cinematic Universe of all franchises, as if Iron Man didn't have Pepper prove crucial to Stane's demise, Iron Man 2 didn't have that scene where Black Widow owns a ton of mooks while Happy has his hands full with just one, and Peggy Carter wasn't the breakout character of the first Captain America movie more than Cap himself was. And it's not as if movie franchises with white male leads stopped being a thing, like John Wick and Mission: Impossible.

I also outlined my "problem" with Midnight's Edge earlier. They did put out a video about this but the very title of the video - something about "turning a boys' property to a girls' one" regarding the MCU - turns me off due to how tone-deaf it is. Plus, all those guys just keep spewing the same rhetoric that's tiresome even regardless of politics. I know what they're up to partly because I follow YouTubers who keep up with them and post rebuttals to their viewpoints.

GotG Holiday Special was a fun time. Absolutely loved seeing more Mantis and Drax was great as always too. The references were amusing as well.

Okay, that was maybe the best piece of MCU content to come out this whole year.

I didnt think it was too weird. She was still drunk and wasnt expecting to be tossed so suddenly so that worked for me I guess.
