yeah, avatar 2 which comes out around christmas time iirc. A lot of theaters are showing the first avatar in theaters right about now

Theaters are showing the first Avatar because they're struggling and need to remind people of certain things you can only experience on a 2000" TV. The original Avatar is, simply, cinema porn. It's gorgeous but unmemorable outside of the visuals - the perfect thing to remind people of something they can't quite get with streaming.

Avatar 2 is probably the same thing: A studio wanting to make a big movie to try to lure people back to theaters so they can make that cinema ticket money again. I'd think those movie companies are struggling just like theater companies. It's probably a shallow movie just like the first. I doubt I will go see it, unless I can get a cheap matinee ticket if anyone still does that.

Was gonna say not really and will probably wait until it comes out on Disney+ if I decide to watch it at all, but Andy brings up a good point - it's the extraordinarily rare kind of movie that would probably ONLY be worth seeing in theatres.

I have basically zero interest. But I don't have negative feelings towards it either, so if people wanted to go really badly and wanted me to come I might end up going. In a way the supreme neutralness I feel toward it is perhaps the ultimate insult.

But I'll probably end up seeing it anyway because my normie family is actually super excited for it.

I feel like making a Legend of Korra joke, but really, does anyone care about this movie series?

Never saw the original so I don't plan on watching this either
Never have been a fan of 3D gimmick but maybe that's because I never saw a movie that executed it well and I don't care enough to give it a shot

I am actually one of the few genuinely excited to see it. I never quite understood everyone's apparen lack of interest over the movie.

Somewhat? It is going to be a visual dream, I saw the trailer in the cinema and it was gorgeous even though I never cared for the story. Frankly people here are seriously underestimating how wide the appeal of Avatar is outside the cynical online 30-something box. However I do have to agree with the cinema porn label which is not necessarily a flaw.

i'm interested. james cameron is one of the great directors of our time so if he releases a new movie, i'm there for it.

I'm not particularly interested in it... But I wouldn't refuse to watch it with friends either.

I might see it in theaters if Wifebolo or somebody really wants to, which is not high praise but is more interested than I get in most movies I guess

All I remember about the original is that I spent the whole movie being unable to get over how dumb it was that the substance that they were after was called unobtanium

I was primed for that by playing a game at the time where unobtanium was a resource lol

Im interested in seeing it (and probably will) but not super hyped or anything like that.

As someone who saw the first one when it came out in 3d and have seen a lot of 3d movies, I am excited for the visual aspects of it. The only other 3d movie that really compares is gravity.

If you see it 100% it must be in 3d or imax

Not at all beyond the fact that James Cameron has a proven record of popping out absolutely legendary sequels that nobody should have had reason to think would be as good as they are. Not personally betting that this is going to be one of those cases, though.

The first Avatar was pretty boring I expect this one to be even more boring.

Kind if amazed by the consistency here of "I don't care but my parents want to see it".

That's not necessarily a bad thing though; most movies that I see in the cinema I wasn't necessarily super hyped for or anticipating months in advance.

Extremely pumped. Took my son and my brother and sister to see avatar in 3d this past week, and they were blown away.

It's amazing what they did with 3d for these movies and how much it changes the 3d experience. I am not excited about the water setting of this next movie, but I trust Cameron to deliver.

The problem is that it's a real word already. Using it is like using thingamajig. Fine as a joke or whatever, bad as something serious.

"too much humor" wasn't my biggest problem with the film!

Out of all the fake science fiction things, it seems a bit silly to get hyper focused on something an in universe character decided to name a fake element

Scientists named their research vessel "boaty mcboatface", a newly discovered protein "sonic hedgehog", a mineral "cummingtonite", and a bird species "turdus maximus". Officially naming something "unobtanium" seems tame in comparison!

You do have a point- fiction in some ways needs to be more realistic than real life

Yeah the unobtanium thing to me always struck me as one of those petty internet hangups that don't do justice to the movie's real flaws.

As the theme park guy here, I'm excited because Disney World made the series exciting.

As a movie series, it is very dull.
