How was this contest for you on a 6-point scale?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reiZqFdqAnE

(1) Super Mario World - 27
(2) Chrono Trigger - 37

Yeah, Chrono Trigger looked pretty well in control, even in some of the closer matches. Personally, I think it's a well-deserving winner. Truly one of the best during the golden age of JRPGs, a big part of what made this generation so memorable. Thanks for everyone who voted. Got a lot going on in the next week or so, but I'll probably put Gen 5 noms up tomorrow. Just not sure how frequently I'll be able to update, and the bracket won't start regardless until at least next Wednesday.

Side note: Mortal Kombat II won the side bracket. Pretty sure there was a lot of stuffing going on, especially given the dip in the finals voting, so who knows if I actually do this type of thing again? Doesn't help that Challonge has an odd format that really fucked with how some matches were presented. Yeah, if any other side bracket crops up, it'll have to be done with 64 or less games.

That was a really good, memorable contest with a lot of juggernauts duking it out. Can't wait for the next gen!

Best possible winner. A lot of hard-hitting clashes.

If I had it my way, Super Metroid would have won. Was surprised it lost to Zelda, tbh. Feel like that wouldn't have happened on B8 a few years ago. Not saying anything bad towards Zelda, it just had a tendency to draw a lot of antivoting back during the days I ran the SNES contest. However, participation has been much higher this time around, so I think it's going to continue tricking where I think the board lies.

If I could've changed something, other than Minesweeper's inclusion, I wish I would've put Sonic 2 and Myst elsewhere. Sonic 2 likely could've beaten a couple of the 4-seeded games and it would have been nice if there was something other than Minesweeper (which should've been ineligible, not speaking of the quality of the game) not on a Nintendo system in the final 16. Myst I think I drastically underseeded. If put at 11 or 12, which would have likely been more appropriate, I think it could have pulled off an upset. Ah well.

Reception to the bracket was mostly positive from what I could tell, but any feedback helps!

I'll never understand this board's undying love of Chrono Trigger.

Not going through every match, but in the later rounds the biggest surprises were Zelda: LA beating Mario RPG (no way that happens on a sitewide GFAQs poll) and Pokemon surviving Kirby by a single vote (again, no way that's close in a wider poll).

Never saw the last topic or two. How was the side bracket winner determined? It doesn't look like you ran a poll for the second half of the top 8.

Yeah, same. That or one of the DKCs are probably my actual fav of the generation. Still a good final though!

Would have prefered FF6 or Mario RPG but CT is a fine winner. Really any of the final 4 would have been good other than Pokemon RBY

Well got one in the Final Four from my faves bracket

(14) Myst > (1) Super Mario World
(11) SML2: 6 Golden Coins > (5) Turtles in Time
(5) Sonic 2 > (14) Minesweeper
(1) Pokmon RBY > (7) Street Fighter II

(14) Myst > (11) SML2: 6 Golden Coins
(1) Pokmon RBY > (5) Sonic 2

(1) Pokmon RBY > (14) Myst

Gen 5 is gonna be good but so many quality games are gonna be left out

The only match I thought Chrono trigger might lose was against ff6

Maybe it could've been taken down by a Zelda or Metroid, but it didn't face either

I'll never understand this board's undying love of Chrono Trigger.
I think I can sort of explain. When you first boot up Chrono trigger, it doesn't feel like anything special

But by the time you're 8 hours in, you realize it hasn't missed a single beat, and it keeps not missing a beat for the entire rest of the game. That is an absolute rarity in narrative rpgs. No boring, awkward or cringey sections, and it doesn't promise anything it can't deliver

my theory is that it is good, but it also has no reason to have anti-voters

---
You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Snooze winner, I like CT but not to this level. But then I find both Mario World and LttP overrated too so things weren't going to go my way regardless!

Thanks for running the contest! It was fun watching Minesweeper punch above its weight.

Great take. It's a lean, fun JRPG that manages to be straightforward despite jumping around in time.

The only major drawback is that Crono is a silent protagonist.

*looks around for all those great N64 JRPGs*

*holds up Hybrid Heaven and Quest 64, which aren't even JRPGs and shrugs*

Chrono Trigger was probably not even top 10 in the bracket for me but it was my favorite of the final 4 and once Super Metroid and FF6 were out I didnt have a lot of great winners left (most of MT major faves were out earlier)

Fun contest though.

This continues to be the only place I ever hear about Chrono Trigger.

MK2, Turtles, and X-Men all making the top 10 in the side bracket was great to see
