Devil May Cry 3: The series as a whole might have a different rating, but DMC3 in particular? This is a highly flawed, but very good series. I wouldn't say any game is perfect, though DMC5 comes the closest. DMC3 has Vergil, pretty much the best video game rival and final boss ever, but... Forgive me, but by this point, I was just a little over gothic cathedrals.

Star Wars Holiday Special Cartoon: This is the only interesting thing from the entire holiday special, and it's... still not very good? It's a perfectly servicable late-70s cartoon that is remembered exclusively for being Boba Fett's first appearance. But I'm more interested in Luke's face, you can see it in the video at 1:40, he looks like... I don't know what he looks like? He looks like when a cartoon makes a joke about animation by having a character show up who's drawn much more realistically than everything else, except that he still doesn't look realistic at all. You can later see Han Solo and Chewie at 8:31, and Han's face in particular makes me wonder if this was made by someone who hates Star Wars.

The Lord of the Rings (Ralph Bakshi): The main thing I remember about this, and I don't know why, is that Gandalf's sword is of an inconsistent length. It changes constantly, though I guess you can say it's just magic. Looking it up, holy crap, Threepio voiced Legolas? I had no idea. I mean, the animation and rotoscoping is obviously bad and weird, but the most interesting thing about this is seeing a different interpretation of the characters than the Peter Jackson version. Legolas isn't a prettyboy, Boromir looks like a viking, Aragorn is straight-up ugly, most of the characters are red-skinned, it's all just so strange. Everything looks like it's from some kind of fever dream version of Lord of the Rings, instead of a big production, which makes it interesting, but not necessarily good. The only thing that looks like it should is the ringwraith.

The Old Guitarist: I won't pretend to know anything about the fine arts, but I can obviously tell that this is a poor, elderly, and possibly homeless man playing the guitar. The intense blueness of everything creates a sorrowful effect (like the Last Unicorn above), with the old man's skin and guitar being the only bright colors. Everything looks completely miserable, it's wonderful. Great painting.

Mortal Kombat: It's been like thirty years, and it's still fun to mock this series for having a bunch of identical ninjas. Compare this to Street Fighter, where the characters are all normal humans, but still have very unique looks that make them easy to tell apart. Here, I'm looking up a cast roster right now as I type this, and it is almost impossible to tell the characters apart. I don't know what causes this. This only ones who are distinct are Raiden and the Frankenstein's Bride hair girl, everyone else just blurs together into one muscley mess. And Raiden only escapes this because of his stupid hat.

StarCraft: I have mixed feelings on Starcraft. First of all, obviously all of its ideas are stolen from other, more intelligent series. "Rednecks in space" is taken from Alien, Zerg are taken from Aliens, Protoss are obviously just space elves, and the UED is obviously just 1984. Every image, every bit of technology, every concept is lifted... And yet? In the first game, everything still works. It's all super cohesive and perfect. This world feels REALLY genuine and good. I love how the instruction manual had little descriptions of each unit's origins, and the tarrasque talks about how it was a peaceful elephant-like animal, etc. The second game, though, reduces the 'lived-in' feeling by making all of the Terran stuff, in general, shinier and less-duct-tape-y, the Zerg less disgusting and gross, and the Protoss more... how do I put this? Fantastical? Warcrafty? Like, let me give an example. In the first game, there's a unit called the High Templar, which is just a Protoss who devoted his life to studying psychic powers. So, when you select him, his portrait is cast in darkness, because it's like 'here's a guy who's so dedicated to the upper reaches of the mind that he no longer really exists in the same world as you, like he does in a literal sense, but he's just so beyond your comprehension that all you can see are his glowing eyes.' In the second game, he's just there. You can see his face in bright light and everything. The Protoss in general are made much more heroic, while in the first game they get up to some questionable stuff, and let's not even talk about the finale where Kerrigan turns into a naked space god shooting DBZ lasers. But, I'm willing to rank this series by just Starcraft 1, so here it is.

Halo Legends: The Duel
Harley Quinn: I'd never seen this show before, it's raunchier and gorier than I expected. The show may be good, but in all honesty? For a show from Harley Quinn's perspective, this animation is very standard? Even the colors aren't that wacky, to say nothing of the design. Like, if I didn't KNOW this was the Harley Quinn show, I could have believed it was a normal Batman show. I watched part of the first episode, where Joker has to choose between saving Joker or Harley Quinn, and you know in one second he's going to choose Batman. The characters all speak in like a 'modern milennial' fashion, I guess, which works fine in the context of a comedy, which is the only giveaway that this is a Harley Quinn-specific show instead of a general Batman one. Reminds me of the new Star Treks, where everyone just talks like 2020s people instead of future military people, except here it makes sense.

Spider-Man: The New Animated Series: Oh no, is that early 2000s CGI? Where all of the chcaracter models look stiff and weird and the movements are all wrong, and the backgrounds are all as simple as they can get away with? Oh my god, this punch. His mouth doesn't move at all inside the mask when he speaks. For its time, this is really bad. Wait a second, this was supposed to be canon to the Sam Raimi movies? Lol, indeed.

The Nightmare Before Christmas: I think roughly everyone in the universe, including aliens, got tired of Tim Burton's shtick roughly between 2005-2013, but he did produce some good stuff in his heyday. The most genius thing in this entire movie is a town of Halloween people trying to understand Christmas, but they only have horror as a reference point, so their conclusions are always wrong, and Jack Skellington doing science experiments on Christmas things because he understands it slightly more than the rest do, but not really that well, it's genius, it's pure genius. The songs are amazing, the design of Halloween Town and all of its residents is perfect... The only thing I'd say I don't like is that while the stop-motion and whimsical horror atmosphere works perfectly for horror creatures, it's weird and off-putting for Christmas and (briefly) Easter creatures. It's not a big deal, and I'm not advocating for some kind of mixture of stop-motion and traditional animation, I'm just saying--damn, that's an idea, a movie that mixes stop-motion, mono-color silhouette animation, 2D animation, and 3D CGI, why has no one done this yet?

Fallout: Now, keep in mind that I'm not judging the actual games themselves, or even their stories. Just focusing on the world and the style, this is really strong. The decaying remnants of classic Americana is a REALLY good place to start, and add to that the NCR, Caesar's Legion (even if it's only in one game), and so on, and you have a really good vision of Mad Max-but-in-the-USA. Not everything makes complete sense, of course, like how the world looks the same eighty or two-hundred years after WWIII, but the visual design elements and atmosphere are super strong. Vault Boy is great, of course. I don't know about anyone else, but I always max out luck, take the wackiest perk possible, and just wander out into the world to see silly things happen. It should be noted that I've only actually beaten one of these games.

Saga of the Swamp Thing: Very complicated and cool-looking design, which I appreciate. I like the attempt to really make something out of... Swamp Thing's earliest appearance is 1971? Jesus Christ, I thought he dated back to the 30s and had been reinvented in the 70s or 80s or something, I'm shocked. I'm trying not to talk about the story of nominations in particular, just their visual design and atmosphere, and Swamp Thing's is wonderfully morose and depressing. You can really feel the hopelessness and isolation in the art. I've never read this comic before, so I hope that sounds correct and not completely wrong, otherwise I might have ranked this comic incorrectly, and that would ruin everything.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Witches only): Ah yes, a classic example of "creepy different visual design in an otherwise normal cartoon," which I think I first encountered in Courage the Cowardly Dog? I don't know which witch is which (lol), so I'll just say that I really like the tiny one that barfs out a happy monster and the upside-down flying one in a gown. The gross monster designs remind me vaguely of NGE angels, although more in idea and usage rather than actual design.

I don't know what the name of this animation style is, but it reminds me of Samurai Jack. "We have one day before the vikings attack," isn't the point of viking raids is that you don't know when they'll come?

Winnie the Pooh (1969): I guess this is what I get for saying Winnie the Pooh is the most standardized big property, so be it. I'll be honest: this is getting undeserved points for being the only representative of that gross mid-to-late 20th century Soviet animation style. I don't know anything about what it's called, I just know it mostly from that one Simpsons episode. It's gross and bad, of course, and you compare it to what the United States was doing at the time, and it's not even comparable. But it has this certain kind of undefinable digusting soul to it, I guess?

Cool World: Has there been a single good live-action-meets-animation movie other than Roger Rabbit? I cannot think of a single one. Don't get me wrong, this is a really interesting... "what if Roger Rabbit was just gross and more cynical" take, but it's more of an anomaly than anything else. It even steals the detective-in-a-period piece idea! There's no reason for this to be a period piece instead of being set in the 90s, except that you liked how Roger Rabbit did it. Anyway... I can't decide whether Holli or Jessica Rabbit is hotter, sorry. Probably Jessica, but it's not by much.

Clock Tower (1995): So, it turns out the game I thought was named Clock Tower was actually Haunting Ground. So be it. This art style is actually very impressive for the SNES, though I suppose it's late SNES. It's got a lot of detail, but it lacks in... atmosphere? It's not very spooky. Look, I'm a sixteen-year-old girl trapped in a dark mansion with a monster guy who has giant scissors trying to kill me, I'm fine with that, but I want some spookiness. Dark corners, spiderwebs, bloody walls, etc. There is a really good hideous mutated fat guy, which is good, but that's all I can find.

Undone: What is this animation style called? There's something going on besides just normal rotoscoping. But regardless, the art style does well for a psychological-based mystery drama. Don't know what else I can really say about it, rotoscoping is basically only good for 'weird' things, there's never going to be a normal comedy that's rotoscoped.
